A Great game
This is such a great game. The Premium Edition is a slick package that’s well worth the money. I’m so proud of XSEED for continually bringing over all these awesome Ys games. (Pronounced Ease) This is full of great action RPG gameplay, many many hours of fun. Great graphics, music, gameplay, and overall atmosphere. It has such an old school feel to it. Buy it now, to encourage XSEED to keep bringing us U.S. gamers more awesome RPG’s like this one!
Ys: The Oath In Felghana is a remake from the PC version of Ys: III, in Ys: The Oath (just Ys from here on) The then up and coming Adol Christin, with his trusty side kick Dogi hear about the troubles that Dogi’s home country of Felghana is having and they decide that it would be best if they went and investigated to see if they could find out what the source of all the trouble is and hopefully put a stop to it. In Felghana there is only one town, Redmont. In Redmont you can upgrade/buy equipment and get all the necessary information you need to progress in the game, all other locations in Felghana are monster ridden or are not accessible until they become monster infested. All in all only having one town did not bother me and was kind of refreshing to be able to stay on one continent for the duration of the game.Ys is an action RPG, but you only play as Adol, everyone else is an NPC, the twist is that every dungeon is based off an element, and you have to guide Adol to find the necessary equipment to progress further in the dungeon. It should be noted there are no healing item in Ys, monsters will drop healing items for you to pick up, and this actually keeps the games pace as you do not have to pause the action to heal up. The one problem I had with the game play is that there was no mini map of any kind in the dungeons or out in the fields, this led me to getting lost several times in dungeons when the correct path was literally right under my nose, by the time I was at th.
As I’ve said in other reviews/first impressions I have given, I have a mild (alright heavy) obsession with RPG games. I have an extra special love for handheld RPGs as they allow me to stomach some of my wife’s less than desirable television shows while being in the same room (I’m looking at you Bridezilla’s). So, when I found out a new Ys game was coming to the PSP, there really wasn’t any option of me not getting this.Ys (pronounced eace as in Peace) is a series that has been going on for some time. All I know of the previous iterations are that they had a nice following of fans. I’m a late comer to the series with Ys 7 being my first foray into the red headed wonders world. The story of Ys games usually revolve around a voiceless main character named Adol Christian with his fiery red hair and ability to woo the ladies and his heterosexual life partner Dogi the strongman with blue hair. Usually there is some evil to conquer and in this game it’s no different. The game begins with the duo returning to Dogi’s homeland where he quickly finds an old friend in danger. Adol rescues the girl and the two are escorted back to Dogi’s home village. After some catching up, Dogi heads off into the mountains to find his former master while Adol is left to wander around. It doesn’t take long for things to spiral out of control as word of a corrupt leader searching for mysterious artifacts in the mines catches Adol’s ears and he is trust into a grand adventure to save the town an.
If you have a PSP and you enjoy action/adventure games then you’re missing out if you don’t have this game. I’m old enough to have played the original Ys III – Wanderers from Ys in its CD format. It was a drastic departure in play style from Ys Books I&II, think going from The Legend of Zelda to the Adventure of Link. "Wanderers" wasn’t a bad game by any means, at least on the CD format with bits of animation and a majority of spoken audio dialogue. "The Oath in Felghana" is a reimagining of "Wanderers" brought into the solidified gameplay style for Ys. I bought the Japanese version while I was in Japan because I wasn’t sure if it would ever get localized and I really wanted to play this game. It does not disappoint in either format, the dubbing team is on par with the best you hear today. If you own a PSP, just get the game and enjoy!
Technically a remake of Ys 3. Yeah, yeah, the graphics are very much improved and the story goes deeper…but, omg, the music! Orchestrated, rock, metal, techno versions of all the original songs. It’s a fun platformer but it’s worth playing just for the music.
This game is just an absolute non-stop blast. I actually played the original PC version of it years ago, and this version is every bit as good as its PC counterpart. The graphics look slightly different in the PSP version but it’s lightning quick, as anyone who’s played Ys IV: Ark of Napishtim’s PSP version can identify as a positive change. There’s barely any loading between areas, the framerate never even approaches dropping, and the whole presentation is just top notch. Many people have praised the voice acting. I’ll agree, it’s definitely competent, but some of the choices are a bit cheesy (and like a lot of B-tier videogame english voice-overs, overdone). I don’t know if I got used to it or if it picks up as the game goes on, but I actually found the story moments late-game quite captivating. I’ve actually been playing the series since I was 6 or 7 (the original MS DOS conversion of Ys Book 1) and Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys was one of the first games I played on my SNES as a kid. Suffice to say, this game has almost everything from the first game, expanded about 500%. Dungeons are way longer, with tons of alternate routes and treasures strewn about. The overworld serves to quickly move the action between dungeons, and the main town is good-sized enough to offer a few quests off the beaten path but never so big that its navigation becomes a chore. The pacing is pretty good, with a pretty steep spike on every boss encounter. There are a ton of difficulty options–th.
Love the game thanks! This game is great from the look and the level of detail and the combat. Thanks
I’ve been playing the Ys series ever since Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim on the PS2. Now, that’s very late into the series of me playing it, but man, is Ys a great series. You play Adol Christin, a young man who left his home to find adventure throughout the world. In this latest game, it takes place 3 years after Ys 1 and 2. Adol and his best friend, Dogi, arrive in Dogi’s hometown, Felghana and is immediately put in a situation where they must save the land before a corrupt count by the name of McGuire, acquires four statues that hold immeasurable power and takes over the land. The game is awesome and has a lot of stuff that makes it 5 stars in my own opinion. The first that made me like it was the voice actors. Nowadays, I’m seeing a lot of people who complain about today’s English voice actors being horrendous and very…..crappy. But these voice actors are very good and fit the character very well. Dogi was voiced by Patrick Seitz. Don’t know who he is? Actually, this guy has voiced dozens of animes and dozens of video games. Wikipedia can prove that if you’re not trusting me. Also, he voiced Ragna the Bloodedge from Blazblue. When I heard Dogi’s voice, I wanted to say “RAGNA!!!” and tell Konami “GOOD JOB!!” and such.Elena, Dogi’s childhood, is actually one of the best voices in the entire game. Sounds cute and innocent, but also has this toughness that makes her one of the most outstanding characters too.Next, the battles are another outstanding point of this ser.
