other exercise games/dvd/videos quickly become routine and boring. this offers a variety of dance, focus work, warmups, and workouts. you can adjust the difficulty levels and really customize your workouts. do what you want, when you want. it tracks progress and includes a calendar so you can track what days you did work out.the only thing i dislike is the way it shows your image on screen. it is not flattering in the least! maybe that is supposed to be used as a motivator, i dont know, but i dont really like it. but that is a personal thing. it has no impact on the effectiveness of the workouts.i am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone wanting a good multi-level, customize-able routines to work out at home.
I really enjoyed playing this game! I feel that using Your Shape can help kick start a work out regimen or getting motivated. But what I would highly suggest getting along with this game is a "Calorie Monitor" to see how many actual calories you are burning. The reason I say this is because I am: CW 234 SW:238 66 inches exiting a sedentary lifestyle; some of these workouts had me winded or had me struggling to match the workouts. Through practice and time I’ll get the hang of it but not doing any of these poses correctly does not mean I am not burning any calories at all. Hence, the Calorie Monitor. This game does not offer a pause option unless you walk away from your kinect range which is some what disappointing and if you’re anything like me experiencing some difficulty doing the moves. All in all I think its a fun game and worth the buy. I will also say this: don’t buy this game if you’re not going to commit to a regimen or attempt to work out.
My family and I love this game. We’ve had it for about three months, and are still using it several times a week. The variety is wonderful, with everything from some pretty intense work-outs (especially some of the boot camp and cardio work-outs) to light fun games (stomp it, stack ’em up) and all kinds of things in between (cardio boxing, yoga, lots of new dances- African, hip hop, Latin, etc). My daughter has been much more motivated to exercise with this than with any of the other fitness games we have. She loves all the games where we can compete against each other, and she especially enjoys the Run the World and jump roping. She also thinks it is really cool that she can actually see herself as if she is looking in a mirror. That’s a big improvement over avatars in the other games, or the humanoid blob in the previous version (although we liked that too). Another big improvement over the previous version is that there are more choices of longer routines. I still wish they had some that were 45 minutes or more, but there are several 20-25 minute choices in all different sections (cardio, Run the World all races for London and New York, boot camp, yoga, etc) and the menus are very smooth and easy to use, so you can put together a longer work-out without really having to pause very much. I find this one to be the most accurate, least buggy, and to have the most real variety with totally different kinds of activities, not just slightly different versions of similar activitie.
This “game” kicked my tail! I had this game on my gift list and my sister-n-law said that she thought about buying it for me but was afraid that it would be like the Wii balance board and not be any good. Well… I am glad that I bought it for myself because it is nothing like the wii fit games. It is really a work out. I have only played the “game” once. The first thing that I did was the game where you punch and kick the blocks. That was not much of a challenge and I worried that the game was not going to live up to its reviews but every game after that had my heart rate up. I think that this “game” is not a game but a personal trainer in an x-box. It tells you when you are not squatting low enough or you are not keeping the correct angle with you arms. The boot camp guy… he really tells you like it is… whew!I look forward to getting home tonight and playing the “game” again. I would definitely recommend this to any one that wants to work out at home.I hope to update this after a few months of use so I can give a more accurate review of all the different features but at a glance, it is amazing!
First impressions of this game are really good. I decided it’s time for me to lose some weight since I’ve gained some weight after taking a promotion at my job that requires me to do less than what I used to do and the burgers are definitely catching up to me now. I just bought a Kinect a few days ago and I’ve had this for 2 days now and I’ve set myself up for 3 30 min workouts a week and the two I’ve done have definitely kicked my butt but they were fun. I’ve never been the type to enjoy working out til now. I love how the game continually motivates you and lets you pause anytime to take a breather. My goal is to drop 30lbs by not only playing this game but also changing my eating habits. I also bought 2 25lb dumbells to use with the game as well for the arm exercises. I haven’t gone in far enough to see if there is custom music but right now I’ve been listening to my sirius xm radio while the game volume comes out of my tv.So again for owning this for 2 days I’m quite impressed and I’m so far enjoying the game and I would highly recommend this. It was definitely a toss up between this and ea sports active 2 but this game had a lot better reviews.
Great workouts for a video game. It also keeps track of calorie burn.
I have the previous Shape Fitness and one of the things I found frustrating was that I am a beginner, not in great shape, and I have arthritis in my knees. I had troubles doing some of the moves the way they wanted, and I got really tired of hearing the game tell me to make my squats lower! This version seems a little more forgiving for beginners, and doesn’t start bugging me about my squats until I get to the higher levels. I appreciate that I can get a good score on lower levels even if I can’t go as deep as they want me to! I like the games, and I like that you can add on modules at a low cost for variety. Some of the "games" are boring, like the one where you’re supposed to be jogging through famous places. All you do is run in place. Seeing my avatar run through the streets doesn’t change the feeling of just running in place. And jump rope is just jumping up and down. I prefer the breaking blocks or dance game which has more variety.
I like this game and it has a lot of different things to do. I like how you can see a whole picture of yourself and the movements are pretty precised. I like how it goes into all different levels of exercise and you can really get a good toning workout from it as well. It can also get your heartrate up with the different running and cardio workouts. I love the brick wall breaker as well! great game.
I have to admit. I read the reviews and was really excited by them but at the same time I didn’t know what to expect. Well O.M.G. This is my first Kinect Game and boy is it a wake up call to how out of shape I have been. Just the warmup alone had me worn out. I did the running and liked that also. I wished the buildings had more detail but the talking and the moving scenery are pretty cool. I used to do some of the workout DVD’s like Tae Bo years ago but I believe this is the future. Those old styles of working out with a DVD with no feedback, adjustment to your new level or even just personality are gone. This is a really fun and worthwhile investment. They put a lot of thought into this game and give you more than your moneys worth. If you are looking for fun or a great workout you will not be disappointed.
OK Game. But I wish it customized a workout regimen for you (like Nike Fitness) does. I love the Jump Rope activity! It is so much fun (well fun for a workout game). I tend to not do anything other than jump rope because without the predetermined set I tend to cop out and do only what I like and not what needs work.
