A very under-rated game that should be played by everyone at least once. It’s very strategic, a lot of thinking and multitasking and incredibly satisfying. My game came in great packaging, and there were hardly any signs that it was used at all.
I never played the original xcom so I’d like to say first of I’m not a fan boy. I was however excited to check this game out when I watched the game play footage on YouTube. Its a turn based strategy rpg that takes you on a global war with aliens destroying cities on earth. You take small tactical squads into warzones or alien crash sites. Duck and cover, sniping and surpressing fire is the name of the game. Wether you’re a fan of turn based strategy and RPGs or your just a casual gamer, most will agree that xcom is a joy to play but it does have flaws I hope my experience playing it will help you in deciding if this game is for you First thing I noticed were the surprisingly terrible graphics. As new as the game is it looks like graphics from the switch era between generation consoles. but graphics are the last thing on my mind when it comes to games. Another bummer was the cartoony concept art. The look of the weaponry armor and some aliens looks ridiculously cheesy. Reminds me a lot of world of Warcraft IMO. The game is frustratingly challenging at times. I spent a lot of curse words saying “I had 80% hit chance!!!! How did I miss????!!!!” These critical cheap issues will cause you to lose soldiers. While you can save and reload at any point you can reload your game….sometimes I will, sometimes I won’t. This can be a good or bad depending how I look at it. The game forces a narrative from a players perspective because the soldiers don’t speak. Since the look and n.
XCOM is the game console video game players need. I love video games, I have ever since I saw my neighbor’s first Atari system. Through that time, I’ve played most genres of games and enjoyed virtually all of them.In this current cycle of consoles, we are over-saturated with first person shooters and well that’s pretty much it. There are amazing role playing games, racing games, great action plat-formers, some solid fighting games, a very nice level of sports titles, party games, and motion controlled shovelware, in my opinion. Now comes Xcom a tactical strategy game which is a very small genre, and the most gripping aspect of this game is the way it handle "deaths." It has been talked about ad nasuem but you can read about the amazing way you can lose team members and how it actually feels like a loss. Those two things make this game an experience that should be enjoyed by all who enjoy video games. Sales of this game have been good, nowhere near what Halo 4 or Bops 2 put up but at the same time it shows that gamers want more. Hopefully more people will pick this game up and have fun fighting off alien invasions.I saw this game for $29.99 and at this price its basically a steal. My friend said it best, Xcom isn’t the game gamers need, its the game gamers deserve. What that mean’s i’m not sure, but this is the type of game that will keep gamers playing for months/years.
Really takes me back to the original on ps1! Great job 2K!
THANKS,
This game is easily one of the most annoying yet most rewarding games I have ever played. Overall it is good enough that after I borrowed it from a friend, I bought him a copy and shipped it to him so I could keep playing it in the future. It is like a game of chess, with a save function thank goodness. You will lose troops permanently which makes each battle a careful and cautious undertaking. I feel like it has the balance of options for your troops with a few options for their skills as well, but it doesn’t get too detailed which is how I like it. I would give this game 5 stars if I felt the computer played fairly. Some of the fights don’t sem close to fair even if you switch to the easier mode. I think the difficulty only affects how much income you have as opposed to the actual difficulties of the battles themselves. Overall though, this game is fun, and is one I plan on replaying. Winning battles with all your guys is very satisfying. I also wish the pace could speed up a but. So the movement went faster and animations to go with it. Some battles literally take an hour when done right and if you do it wrong and decide to load a save, you really feel like you are wasting time. For a few small issues, I give a 4 star, but overall its still a classic in my opinion. I love blowing up the map with explosives too, very fun .
The developers of the remake streamlined everything from the original game but enough things were lost in translation that I found myself itching to play the old one instead. The sense of havoc and dread is somehow missing, and there’s now rigid rules and structures in place that simplify gameplay a bit too much for my tastes (e.g. limited inventory management, limited finances, no hiring/firing scientists/engineers, smaller maps, no free aiming, etc). The 1994 original felt like a window into a miniature world being swarmed by aliens, which was what made it magic. This new one feels like just a game.
I grew up playing the original XCOM – UFO Defence when I was very young (not any of the other garbage XCOM titles that came soon afterward). Though I completely sucked at it, I simply loved it because of it’s dark, creepy atmosphere and wide array of options in managing my war against the alien invaders.I’m older now, and more accustomed to strategy-war games, and have just recently purchased XCOM – Enemy Unkown after reading so many great reviews, and hoping that it really would stay true to the formula of the orginal. The game arrived last night, and before I knew it, 6 hour had gone by.So far this game has FAR exceeded my expectations. Not only does it hold true to the orginal game, but it is loads of fun. The combat system is perfect with you now being able to utilize cover much more stragically, and having more combat options while on the field. The only thing this game lacks so far is the creepy atmosphere of the original, but that is just light nit-picking compared to all the greatness this game has to offer. The first few tasks at the beginning the game are very linear, but this is done simply to show you how to play the game. After that, you are on your own to build your base, make all of the engineering and research decisions, and decide on when to deploy your troops and how to deploy them. Your choices of where to set up your base are limited compared to the original, but this is easily overlooked. So is the fact that you can only have one base. One base may not sou.
Nice disc condition……
I loved the original XCom and wasted far too much of my youth playing it. When i saw Sid Meier was involved in creating the new XCom my interest was piqued. The new version is very very good. The implementation of a turn based strategy game on a console is flawless. The user interface is clean and intuitive, and the game play is fun.The story line is great and the tension at least in the early game is palpable. The only issue i have run into is the maps are not randomly generated and that gets a bit tedious. Also the AI is a little weak, as the Aliens do not do the best job of coordinating their defenses or attacks, which allows someone using good squad tactics, especially in the late game when you have the best weapons and armor, to destroy the aliens piecemeal with virtually no risk to themselves.I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed the original.PS Strangely there were no farm maps with the infamous hedge rows and baies of hay.
