You’ve probably seen the figures on sale at WalMart or some other place and thought to yourself, “Yeah, that’s how they get you.”I know I did.Let’s talk a little bit about the game itself. We’ll get to the figures later. Skylanders is a Spyro game with up to 32 different characters playing the lead role. That can be a lot to keep track of. This starter kit comes with three: Spyro (naturally), Trigger Happy and Gill Grunt. All three are your basic beginner characters with good ragned abilities and average mobility/survivability. Your objective is to stop the evil Kaos from stealing the light away from Skylands by reconstructing the Core of Light. The characters take form in the physical realm in those little figurines, and by placing them on the Portal of Power accessory connected to your console, they appear in your game. Got all that?For kids 15 and younger, I’m sure this story is a fantastic hit. Adult gamers who don’t have kids can still enjoy a good platformer, even if switching out physical characters to play a video game can get a little tedious.This starter pack of heroes will get you through the game just fine if you don’t want to pay for extra figures. However, you won’t be able to access every aspect of the game. Certain areas inside the levels of the game can only be accessed by heroes of a certain element. Add to that that each character has a special level that any of your heroes can do for an ex.
Gave this game to my 5 boys for Christmas. They love it! They talk about it everyday. Even my 4 year old can play.
This was on my 12 year old grandson’s christmas list. I’m not into playing myself but I enjoyed watching him and his friends play this game. He wanted to collect all of the Skylander figures which costs more money but I only cared about how much he enjoyed the gift.

The original Skylanders game is a worthwhile purchase for any video game fan. If you enjoy classic RPG-element story with a Pokemon-like feel to it, this is a game for you.The story is that an evil tyrant known as Kaos destroys a device that prevents him from controlling the elements of a realm of flying islands. To ensure his victory, he banishes the heroes of his world to Earth and they are turned into plastic toys. However, the forces of Good rally and rally fast with an Obi-Wan Kenobi-like ghost known, appropriately, as Eon who develops the Portal of Power to help bring the Skylanders back home.The thing that really sells this game is, of course, the whole action-figures becoming living avatars thing. For little kids, it’s like playing a medieval Toy Story game and lend a really interactive feel to it. The story is pretty well-written and a lot of the dialogue is hysterically funny, even for a 24-year-old guy like me. The graphics are a little dated in comparison to the later Skylanders games, but hey, you gotta start someplace, Right?For a kids game, the game is surprisingly challenging but in a fun way. It’s basically an Action RPG with tons of puzzles. My seven year old and his friends are crazy about this game! My son loves it and it is fun for me too. The game walks you through the first few levels and the characters talk so if your kids reading isn’t that advanced they can still get the idea of what to do. Each character has a different set of spells available and you get to earn “gold” to buy new ones as they level up. Finding all the hidden areas can be challenging but if you get stuck there are a variety of videos on youtube to help. Over all a great game.
I bought this game for my son who is 10 and he absolutely loves it, his friends came over and said they didn’t think it was going to be fun but when they started playing, I couldn’t get them off of it. The one thing I liked about this game is that it’s kid friendly, because it’s been getting so hard to find a game for his age that is not too babyish or too violent.
Bought this for my son for Christmas and ordered it a couple of days before and it came very quick and the game is awesome. We have been playing ever since he unwrapped it.
