This may not be a gigantic leap over the near-flawless Wipeout XL, but as they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. In fact, with the addition of Challenge modes, as well as the return of the Tournament mode, Wipeout 3 is the most complete game of the 3. Graphics are incredibly smooth and fast, as usual, with little to none of that background "pop-in" that plagued the first two. The ships look a little like Lego though. Wipeout’s claim to fame (other than vomit-inducing speed) has always been its pulsing soundtrack, and this time around, it can be the best of the 3 (Chemical Brothers’ Influence and Sasha’s Xpander) but it can also be the worst (an uncharacteristically weak tune from Orbital and the rest of Sasha’s contributions). No fear, though, because the gameplay has been relatively untouched. The biggest new feature is the hyper-thrust. The R1 button sacrifices shield energy for a little extra speed, which minimizes the loss of speed from hitting the wall (believe me, you WILL hit the wall). There are some new weapons, including the force wall and energy drain, but no turbo boost(sob…). It’s also important to mention that combat plays a much larger role in this outing. It can mean the difference between 1st and 6th. I haven’t stuck with it for exceptionally long, but I’ve noticed that it is much harder to win in this game, except on Vector (which isn’t how you should be playing anyway). I find that a good thing though. I’m now at the point where.
Although this game has exceptional graphics, (which is not what a racing game is all about) the controls are PERFECT no matter what kind of controller you have, and it’s just a lot of fun! I would definetely try it out (then recommend it to a friend)!
This game has some of the best graphics that I’ve seen for the PSX. It levels are very colorful and filled with futurous scenery. The many powerups and weapons add to the fun in this game. Control is a little hard when you first start playing, but it is easy to get used to (The craft slide a bit when you are turning). There are only 8 ships to choose from and some of them aren’t very good. More tracks wouldn’t hurt either. This game is a good game and you should buy it.
This game feels like it’s brand new, right out of the package. I couldn’t find any visible damage to it, like scratches or water damage. When I put the game in the console, it loaded right up. There was nothing wrong with the music, sound effects, or graphics. It literally felt like I bought a brand new game. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
Just a quick note to say how much I like this game, I’ve probably played it hundreds of hours (no exageration) in multiplayer. The styling, tracks, weapons, ‘announcer voice’, soundtrack and most especially handling (which I have mastered to perfection) make it the best Wipeout I have played. So far I’ve played Wipeout Pure, Fusion, 2097 and HD. Non of them come close to Wipeout 3 in my opinion. 2097 is hailed by many as one of the best, but the simple fact that it doesn’t have multiplayer rules it out for me. My biggest gripe regarding the others, especially HD and Pure, is the handling. I am unable to master it, whereas in Wipeout 3 I can do a perfect lap fairly easily (no touching the walls).Despite the ageing graphics and non-widescreen aspect ratio, I highly recommend this one to any Wipeout fan hasn’t played it!
At this point I’ve played every Wipeout game ever made except two. Wipeout Pure for the PSP, and Wipeout HD for the Playstation 3. While Fusion was kinda neat in a couple of ways, and 64 was fun, the real must-owns were definitely Wipeout, Wipeout XL, and Wipeout 3.The first game was slick and pretty and had a beautiful soundtrack, the second was fast beyond all belief, let you blow up the competition, and had music that was a lot more intense (and so were the weapons). The third game is…different, but still very very good. The first two games had slick presentation to be sure, but it can’t touch this game. The whole Designer Republic thing has just been kicked into overdrive, and everything has that very simplified futuristic super-clean, super-simple look. Kinda like P.N. 03. Different. But for menus, still nice (except for the fact that you can’t read the tech specs on the vehicles because the text is illegible ugh!).The track graphics on the other hand, are like taking the pretty graphics of the first game, accelerating them to near the levels of the second game, and running everything through a graphical filter that makes them look like the style of Need for Speed 4: High Risk or R4: Ridge Racer 4. Again, different. On the whole though, I love the graphics. They feature lots of animations (like birds taking off or aircraft flying by), and are very detailed and smooth, and just pleasant and soothing to look at (less sharp edges and dark moody atmosphere and more happy pa.
This game is a Wipeout fans dream. It incorporates the slick design that made Wipeout XL so great, but further adds to the formula. Superb analog control makes the ships more responsive than ever, and the idea of using your shield reserve as turbo is a welcome game mechanic, adding more depth and variety to your strategies. The soundtrack is awesome(Dj Sasha did original songs for this game, plus all the usual suspects).. and the challenge level is fairly high, especially on Phantom class races. While this may turn off newcomers, anyone familiar with the series should feel right at home. This is the best in the series, and is a better game than Wipeout:Fusion in every aspect but graphics.
I bought the PS1 for Wipeout oh so long ago and will continue to by all the rest as long as they keep making them. The graphics are great, even on older versions. The music is always excellent and the game is just addicting.
Wipeout 3 was a great way to get into the franchise because it has the best of what the previous games offered plus a little more. The graphics got some serious update since Wipeout 2 and the gameplay is a lot smoother and faster. Add to that a killer soundtrack and some nice little extras and this game is an obvious choice for any arcade racing fan.First of all the racing is just plain fun. Frame rate is very smooth and the tracks are varied and challenging. If you’re not familiar with Wipeout at all then think of it as a sci-fi racing game. You’re racing on an anti-gravity sled thingy that’s not only built for speed but armed to take out your opponents the dirty way (by either slowing them down with a land mine or completely trashing their vehicle with a guided missile). Just keep in mind the other racers can do the same. So you have a combination of racing and a little tactical combat as well. There are some tweaks and improvements from the last games, but the one I’m going to focus on is the instant replay. This is a very cool feature that lets you see the race you just finished from the cameraman’s point of view. You see yourself racing past the crowds and screaming around curves (or crashing against the side rails depending on your performance) as if you were watching the race on tv. Neat feature. The soundtrack is the best of the series (with Wipeout Fusion a close second). Many people prefer Wipeout 2’s soundtrack because it has different and eclectic styles of electron.
Game is pretty much perfect but the music on this disc skips for some reason. Case is also not original. But honestly I’m just happy to play this game again after so many years. Fast shipping well packed. Thanks
