This little nintendo is so cool! While there are games pre-installed and you can’t use actual cartridges, the pros far out weigh that factor. You can save any game that you play on the device simply by hitting the reset button. Once you do the system will instruct you on how to save and you can save up to 4 games. If you forget about your game play on pause, the system will shut itself off but will allow you to resume your game once you reset the power. You can also use any of the old Nintendo codes and tricks to gain special features or skip levels and more. There are definitely glitches during game play, but to me its quite nostalgic of having an original Nintendo. The only negative is that it comes with 1 controller and the cord is ridiculously short. It is almost impossible to play without buying an extension cord, unless you want to sit 3 ft from the tv screen.
this machine just takes me back!Lovin’ every minute of game time! The cable sucks (length), but I just replaced it with a wireless NES30 controller.Don’t recommend that, ’cause the two bluetooth receivers conflict, rendering them useless. So, I finally (today) replaced the short and wireless pads with a 12ft "wired" version. Working GREAT on all fronts now!To bad the price was SO marked up. :|
I was shocked to see that these were available again at retail prices. I’ve only seen them available at $200+ by opportunistic game scalpers. For $60, this was a great deal, just for the nostalogic value, but for $200+ it would not be. I echo the #1 criticism, which is the cord length for the controller. I suppose they either intended you to be sitting right in front of your game box, or they intended for you to buy the extension cords, which I did, but to exit a game you have to press the Reset button on the console. The games are mostly as I remembered, except brilliantly colored on my HDTV rather than muted and pixelated like the CRT TV I had in my youth. What I didn’t recall was how difficult the games actually are. I’m not sure if I’ll ever have the time, or get around to, finishing all of them again. I suppose being 42 instead of a kid with all the free time in the world will likely make a difference in the level of dedication I’ll have, but still, it’s nice to have a little nostalgic fun in my office late at night after the family has gone to sleep. My only other criticism is the game selection – about 1/3 of them I never had or played as a kid, but the system is still worth it for the games I did have. And… Punch-Out does not feature Mike Tyson. I understand why, but still BOOOOO… Still, all of this is included in the product description, so there were no surprises with regards to the game selection. All in all – definitely worth $60 if you have a soft spot for the o.
I bought this because i liked some of the old nintendo games and wanted to play them again. It should be noted that this can only play the built in games and you cannot use the old cartridge games in it. i wasnt able to find a way to reset this to play a differnet game without hitting the buttons on the actual device (no reboot from crontroller) so every time you want to try another game you need to go back to the console. (not a big deal but worth mentioning). overall it has a good collection of built in games and seems to function like my old origional NES.
The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is a very cool retro gaming system that comes pre-loaded with 30 classic NES games. By now, it’s not a secret that the system can be easily expanded to play over 700 games if so desired. Whether or not to do this is up to you. Also, this system used to be near impossible to find at the retail price. That is no longer the case. I see these available at the regular retail price at numerous retailers every week now. Don’t get ripped off by people selling them at a premium. Also, watch out for shops selling fake bootleg systems. Buy from a reputable source. Now that we got those things out of the way, back to the system. It comes with one wired controller, HDMI Cable, USB Cable, and USB Power Supply. The wire on the controller is on the short side, but you can purchase extension cables for only a few dollars. Generic controllers are also very inexpensive, and there are even wireless controllers available. Once you hook the system up, the games play well. They look the same as they did 30 years ago. If you’re looking for some 8-bit nostalgia, The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition won’t disappoint.
Great fun! I was lucky enough to grab a Nintendo NES Classic Edition on the re-release day, June 29th, and have been playing through all the included games since then. The only problem is that that controller cables are way too short. You really need to buy extension cables in order to play comfortably. Extra controllers are hard to find as well, but they seem to be more available than in the past.
My dad introduced me to video games when I was 3 years old with the NES back in the early 90s and I’ve been a huge Nintendo fan ever since. Being able to get many of those same games in a small, convenient package that doesn’t require any extra fuss is great. Though I have the knowhow to set up a Raspberry Pi or other similar system, there’s just something very satisfying about a product you can simply plug and play. The games are a great mix, and the whole package looks very sleek.
The product worked right out of the box. That being said, I had to sit on the floor 3 feet from the television in order to play it, because the controller cable is laughably short. They make extension cables for the controller that are sold separately, remember to buy the extension cable. There are also online instructions for modding the console so that you can add games to it. In my instance I was successful at adding Rygar, Rush-N-Attack, and Kung Fu to my console without any issues, using referenced instructions. Its a great way to reminisce of the old days and also make your kids grateful they have a PS4.
This was a Christmas gift for our 5-yr-old and overall we’re pretty happy with it – it works well. No glitches. Checkmarked the “video games” box that he wanted because all of the bigger kids talking about it on the bus, while keeping him off-line and away from overly graphic games. The control is also a more appropriate size for his hands and is overly complicated. The main downside is that the controllers have unbelievably short cords and to my knoedge there’s no extenders for them, so we ended up spending around $60 for a long hdmi cable so we could sit more than 2 feet away from the 55″ TV. That kind of threw the affordability of this unit out the window, plus the fact that we had to buy the 2nd controller.More critically, as a kid from the 80s who grew up in these games, they’re (nearly) just as I remember. I will say that the controller don’t have as much “spring” to them as the original ones did – sometimes it feels like a button didn’t quite register the exact second I hit it – which let’s be honest– makes all the difference in Mario. It does it the spot for nostalgia though.
It was awesome to play the old games again without buying a refurbished NES. The games play and sound the same, so they nailed it. Yes, the controller cord is as short as everyone says, but if you have a long HDMI cable you can get some distance that way, or get a wireless. I have nothing but good things to say about this product.
