When I heard about The Evil Within, and heard it was being created by the original creator of Resident Evil, I got really, really excited. Horror video games have become more, well, action. Dead Space had lost its horrifying touch, and the first game of the series is really the only one that’ll make you jump. Resident Evil had become more action based rather than trying to survive. FEAR had also lost its horror touch.So, I had high hopes for The Evil Within.Nevertheless, when Resident Evil 4 came out (this was when I was fourteen years old) it was being praised as one of the best games ever created. And I was lucky enough to play it. It spooked the living hell out of me, and it was a difficult game. But I loved it, and till this day it is still one of my favorite games. Mind you, Resident Evil 4 was created by the same director who created The Evil Within.I researched a lot when The Evil Within came close to its release date, and by the time it was released I heard it was one of the most difficult horror games to come, and so after playing games that weren’t difficult I decided to wait for it, let the price come down. I was debating whether or not I should buy this for the PS4 or PS3, since I don’t have a PS4 yet.Now, I got to play it with my PS3 and beaten the game within three days after I got it.The Evil Within is, how I put it, Inception meets Jacob’s Ladder. It all takes place inside of a mad scientist’s mind, where the environment is constantly changing, the city is lit.

There are some glitches and graphic questions, but for old school horror gaming its one of the best I’ve seen in years with some nice jump scares.If I had to narrow down on some draw backs it would be the time it can take ( took me over 20 hours), ammo ( even on easy you can run out ), deaths (died over 80 times on easy), story ( seemed incomplete / broken in places ) and not well setup for a second game much less a series of games.It does hold some replay value since you can keep your inventory and upgrades, but that only leads to more exploring looking for the missing pieces or searching the internet for answers. I am looking forward to the DLC to see what if anything that adds to the game.

Got this for my boyfriend who is a horror movie fan. This game scared a 30 year old horror lover so bad that he didn’t want to play it anymore; which is the reason I am giving this game 5 stars.
Awesome game.
Overall good gameplay, good jump scares. The story is a little convoluted, but fun to play. It would have been nice to be able to revisit earlier levels to search for missed items as you never knew when the door, gate , or portal was going to seal you away from what you missed. Tip: Save often when given the opportunity!
