Assault on Dark Athena is a new chapter in the Chronicles of Riddick and it brings new environments, characters, moves, weapons, and graphics into the series. And for the price I paid of $2.50 it’s win win. It also comes with Escape from Butcher Bay, the 2004 classic that made its way as one of the best games on the original Xbox, but with update graphics that make the game look amazing. My only complaints are: the Assault on Dark Athena campaign was very short and didn’t feel like they really fleshed out this next chapter in the series, issues with certain screen resolutions (1920×1080 is one of them) locks the refresh rate at 29 Hz, and enabling ambient occlusion causes strange things to happen with the shadows in the game. Running the game at 1680×1050 instead and turning ambient occlusion off makes the game run great and look great. Hope this helps.
Game shipped and arrived quickly in good condition as stated. The game itself is as expected and is a blast if you are in to the Riddick story.
Was able to get to work just fine, here are the steps i took.Ran installer as AdminInstalled productDownloaded Tages. The DRM softwareRan game in compatibilty mode (XP SP3)Entered the DRM key The game is working. 2020 Windows 10. 2 games are included in this bundle.
Took some trickery to make it work but after uninstalling tages, or whatever it’s called, it runs great. Running Windows 10
I won’t talk much about DRM in this review. Dark Athena is really two games: the original Escape from Butcher bay remastered with a new graphics engine, and Dark Athena. The voice acting is actually quite excellent. Vin Diesel’s lines are short but effective. Cole Hauser, Michelle Forbes (Ro Laren from Star Trek The Next Generation, or Admiral Cain from Battlestar Galactica), and Dwight Schultz (Murdock from the original A-team, or Lt. Reginald Barclay from Star Trek The Next Generation) lend their voices to the games. The graphics are pretty decent for a 2009 release and ran fine with my HD 4870 on full graphics settings. The game play is pretty simple. It is a first person shooter, although you don’t always get a gun to shoot. You have to rely on your fists or weapons for much of the game, occasionally using a dead drone’s weapon or relying on stealth and night vision to silently take out your prey. There are elements of Thief (relying on shadows and stealth) as well as Portal (using the SCAR gun at the end of Dark Athena to move boxes around). The enemy AI is quarky. They will easily spot you which I didn’t like, or they’re really easy to take down. It’s never a consistent flavor. The controls are exceptional and very intuitive, so you won’t waste time trying to perform stunts or tasks. I didn’t experience any crashes through both games. The only complaint I have is the menu is very awkward to use. The buttons for the menu settings aren’t mapped properly so you have to clic.
I loved the first game, and my only complaint is that it took so long to make the next installment. The addition of the first game remastered was a very nice touch. I went back and replayed it with the upgraded graphics to see the difference and to get a grasp on what happened 5 years ago! This game is not just for Riddick fans, but for anyone who love’s intense action sequences, 1st and 3rd person combined with killer graphics and puzzles to boot!
I liked this game a lot. Not a real highend game for hardcore gamers, but perfect for novice or casual/beginner players. I like the Riddik movies a lot also. I received it and played right out of the package. Received it promptly and in condition was promised by shop. great game.
Both games were great but I preferred Escape from Butcher Bay. Great buy for any scifi shooter fan or Riddick fan.
The biggest complaint from the other reviews is the DRM. The DRM has changed since then. When this game first came out, you can only install this game three times one one machine, and that’s it. That’s why everyone was upset about it, and they had the right, I was upset as well. But it’s changed now. The DRM is still there, but it’s not a bother anymore. It restricts you to 3 installs per month. After a month, those 3 installs reset. Unless you love uninstalling your games every week, I doubt 3 installs per month will be a hassle for you.
The game is beautiful, gameplay is fun and graphics is pretty darn good. I gave it a 5 star because of the beauty of the game and its playability, not for the DRM. I was just wondering about it too, how come both EA and Atari didn’t do anything about it?I mean there is over 100 bad reviews about DRM and over 100 customers that said they won’t be buying the game in the retrolio reviews alone. There is more on other websites and I saw a few people in the game shop putting back the game to the shelve’s because of the DRM. Now, over 100 people won’t know how great the game was.
