My sons, 4 and 8, are big fans of Disney Infinity 2.0. That version introduced Marvel characters into the Disney Infinity universe and this one brings Star Wars into the fold. My eight-year-old, in particular, a big fan of the franchise, was incredibly excited by the addition of familiar worlds and characters he can explore and battle in.Like previous versions this uses a “portal†(glowing USB-stage) where you can set various plastic characters, all sold separately, of course, and bring them into the game. There are also “power discs†(small plastic checker-like pieces) that add various elements and powers to your characters.You can also build your own worlds in “toy box†mode, which lends a Minecraft element to the play.It’s all very immersive and engaging, as well as super family friendly, but it’s also very expensive, which, as a mom, is my main my knock against the Infinity series. All the add-on characters are between $10-$15 each, while the power discs are $1-$2 per piece. While you can play right out of the box with this starter kit, it’s likely gonna continue you to cost you more and more as time goes on, and you can also bet that Disney Infinity 4.0 will be released next holiday season, too. And, as with this model, the old characters won’t work with the new platform and vie versa which, frankly, is really annoying. (At least Skylanders annual new editions are usually backwards compatible.)With Skylanders already a thing, and putting out a new edition annually, and L.
