Sure, the graphics can be corny, but hey the game itself is awesome. You don’t have much choice on characters, having to have 4 perminant(4 sword characters) and 2 extra(non-sword characters). Am I spoiling? Maybe not.Stahn is cool, Rutee is probably one of my favorite game characters of all time, Leon’s pretty cool, though he…uh nevermind. Chelsea was my optional character, and she became very powerful …, and she didn’t even have one of the talking swords! Not only that, by the time you can get her as a perminant member, her level is so … low, it’d take hours to level her up to the others. (level 2 when I got her). The character selection is a downfall. The graphics are corny but cute. [Bad vibes] to the translators who removed the voices and removed the song! Yeah, for Namco in bringing us a wonderful game with cool characters. The battle system…is wierd; a near reproduction of Tales of Phantasia (ToD’s predicessor). Some of the puzzels are difficult, but are solveable.Basically, though it’s graphics resemble the SNES Tales of Phantasia, the game is still good. Graphics, to me, don’t make the game–its the story.
Game came in on time and as described.
Perfect quality, perfect game.
This was the first non-Square RPG I really got into, and I’ve loved every minute of it. This game has several things that I personally enjoyed the most:1) It’s a cartoon- I’ve always preferred cartoony, anime-style characters to realistic characters. The appearance of the people lightens some of the darker parts of the story.2) Very innovative- The battle system is a mixture of good old fashioned spell menus and item lists and fast-paced roughhousing with button combinations; it’s like mixing "Final Fantasy" with "Street Fighter."3) Awesome story- The story isn’t anywhere near as developed as something like "Final Fantasy Tactics," but it’s solid and ensnaring. I was on the edge of my proverbial seat the entire time.4) Voices- This game hasn’t been butchered by lousy English voice actors, and everyone’s sound bites are still in their original Japanese. For some reason, game voices sound cooler when you don’t know what they’re saying. So, if you’re looking for a great game, this is definitely for you. I extremely recommend this one.
Perfect, thank you so much!
I’m an old school RPG person. Which means, I grew up on Dragon Warrior on the NES (and to a lesser extent, SSI’s older stuff on the PC). Which also means, I’m *very* partial to 2D graphics. Other reviews here rag on the graphics in this game, but I wonder, has anyone even looked at them? Each background is painstakingly handcrafted, the characters the same. This game is absolutely beautiful, and it doesn’t need fancy 3D to do it. I have yet to see a 3D based game with as much character as this masterpiece. That being said, the story is superb, if not rehashed standard fantasy fare. The combat system is innovative and a breath of fresh air. Add to the fact that this game is completely "customizable" in just how deep you want your RPG. There are tons of mini-quests and even a tough, secret Tower of Druaga clone that you don’t *have* to complete to beat the game, although it’s very rewarding if you do.If you think 3D is the end-all be all and let that be your reason for not buying this game, shame on you! A great game, a great story, beautifully done.
The graphics might look bad compared to current day game graphics but this rpg is just plain fun. There are slightly different versions but they are all basically the same thing. As for the story line, some people love it and others don’t but it’s not one of those ‘nothing goes wrong’ story lines, you will want to get through the tough parts of the game to see what will happen next. It’s quite an average length for a game but it can take some people a while to figure out what to do, luckkily it is not hard to find free online guides that will help you through the game if you can’t figure it out. There is only one aspect of the game that just isn’t so wonderful, the world map, it has a terrible worl map but atleast it gets the job done. This makes a unique rpg because you can put things in you ‘food sack’ that could raise or lower some of your characters abilities or status effects, but they will not starve if you leave it empty. Also there are plenty of side quests and tasts you can complete for people as you make your way through the story, including a secret ending which hardly anyone knows about (try doing a search for it)The battle system is simply incredible, many things can go on at once and there’s even a special way to get more than one player to join you in battle. It’s a real time battle system that gives you a fun experience with plenty of beautiful spells and special abilitys to stare at. You can command certain characters to only focus on weak or strong enemys, def.
I for one throughly enjoyed the game! I ended up giving the one I had away and now in search of finding a new Tales of Destiny game without paying a lot of money. I understand that in order to understand and appreciate the product description of who ever wrote it I should play the game mentioned before shutting down the person that wrote it.I don’t think this game is at all bad or dry or dull or any of the such. I would suggest this game to anyone. My only complaint is I wish it came out on other game systems then just playstation.
WAAAAAHHHOOOOOOOOOOW this RPG rules!Hey,it beats the heck out of the misplaced-eye people on Final Fantasy 8!I’ve seen this type of Battle-Field in Star Ocean, but in that game its like a real battle-field,you can move left, right up,down, diagonal, bla, bla, bla. There is actually STORYLINE in this game!Amazing!Considering the dull stroyline in FF8,kill kill kill kill. This has a great character develepmont system, okay, the graphics are less than good, but graphics arent what make an rpg,I would recommend this to everyone! This is truly a good game, best rpg ive ever played, well im off to sleep, cya everybody!
I love this game it’s amazing and underrated the tales of series is by far one of the best JRPG series. This game came in mint condition it brings the Manuel mint condition and the artwork was perfect no scratches and the disc looks like it was just released
