I wish there was more boards option, but the mini-games are fun. I like that even choosing a character plays into the strategy as it depends on the dices you get. I got this game before COVID-19, so the online play option didn’t matter to me since I always hop over to my friend’s house. But the online Play weakness is definitely the biggest weak spot and disappointment of this game. Hopefully, in light of the pandemic, Nintendo can do some update on this area. But still a solid game.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend this game for all ages. It is a very fun and humorous game everyone can enjoy. I pre-ordered this game and have been playing it ever since. It is a pure joy to play. There are varying levels of difficulty per the norm, but I am unashamed to admit that the more difficult levels are indeed “very hard”. I found myself struggling to beat the computer often times on all of the levels. Despite the difficulty, it is not an overwhelming difficulty. My nephews and nieces ages 5-14 was able to play this game and without much hardship. Great job Nintendo and thank you retrolio!
I have been a fan of Mario party since the very first one on N64 but have not been buying the games as they seemed to have strayed from the original more than I would have liked. However, this one seemed to go back to its roots–so I knew I had to get it!What I like:-you can edit the length of the game (and it give you the estimated amount of time to complete it. i.e. 10 turns is approx. 60 min).-you can practice the mini-games before hand (and EVERYONE has to be "ready" before the game starts–otherwise you stay in the practice mode).-you can play the mini-games or other fun short games on your own if you do not want to play for an hour or more.-it is VERY friendly to those who are new/unfamiliar to gaming–so it is an essential game to have!-you can change modes at any time (just fyi "normal" level is actually rather easy if you are an experienced gamer).-the game boards are different and have some fun elements to them!-the switch remove vibrates and pings when it is your turn or somehow you are involved in what is occurring in the gameplay.-lots of super funny and clever minigames (some are definitely throw backs to the original game)What could have been improved:-I wish you could skip or fast forward through computer players turns if you wanted. Playing by myself was like 2-3 minutes watching them, and only 1 minute really playing (including my turn and the mini-game).-as is expected, some of the mini-games are not as exciting as others. Many of the team/c.
Mario Party has been in a funk over the past ten or so years, but this is a good step towards a return to form. The gameboard plays like the originals, and the mini-games are a BLAST! However, even 20-move games feel short, especially with how small the boards seem, bonus stars at the end make earning stars during the game itself feel arbitrary, and I feel as though 2v2 doesn’t happen as often as maybe it should. All around, a fun game to play with friends that gives a vibe of the first few installations of the franchise but still falls short in a few key aspects of play.
I have had so much fun with this game. I grew up playing Mario Party 64 and this game captures all the best parts plus more. The new mechanics such as personalized dice blocks, allies and partner game type are all excellent additions. Here’s hoping there is some DLC down the road. Get Partying!!
I got this game recently with the intention of playing with my 1st grade daughter – She loves it! The characters are great, my favorite being Monty Mole! The graphics are clean and bright.Mario Party has what my daughter calls “dance mode”, a mini game that is based on music, and has a “Remix mode” which increases the speed! She laughs out loud at how crazy we look trying to keep up.Worth every penny!
This game is played in the same fashion as the Nintendo Wii; the players hold the joycons and their hand movements direct the characters’ missions/challenges.It is easy enough for a child 5 years or so to play, but fun enough for teenagers – it’s a good family game too.
I always enjoyed mario games. They’ve been great, especially with groups, but still enjoyable alone. However this one was quite different.Pros:1. Different types of arcade modes2. New twist on rolling with the dice block3. New items for a more aggressive approach4. New minigame categoryCons:1. Turns drag on for some reason2. Minigames are pretty short3. Limited selection of maps and minigamesI think it’s still worth a purchase because with a group of friends, it’s still really fun. But an hour for a 10 turn game seems pretty long considering that the minigames are only like 30 seconds. how do you spend 5 and a half minutes just rolling and moving?? Solo play is rough, so you need to remind yourself that you’re only doing it to unlock more stuff within the game.
This game is everything I expected it to be just like the older mario party games. Was super excited when this finally came out for the switch. You can only use joycons for this game so make sure you have two sets of joycons to play with 4 friends. There are so many different modes to play as well. The team mario party mode is my favorite. I highly recommend this game to old fans of the series. However this game is a lot less forgiving than the older games. You can no longer lose all your coins or all your starts in one swoop. But you can still steal things to ruin your friendships!
Super Mario Party returns to the old classic Mario Party formula from my youth for the base gameplay. The new dice block system seems innovative, but really just means that you are going to only play a select few characters, because some of the dice are not balanced in a way that makes them productive. (Looking at you DK.) The mini games are simple and short, in many cases to a fault—especially since something seems off in the randomizes, and you will find yourself playing the same mini games each time you play. I enjoy the fact that there are several modes to choose from, but the River Survival mode is quite stupid as there are not enough unique mini games to give each mini game option a new one. You repeat them again and again.Ultimately, it is good for kids and a quick bit of nostalgia, but the effort it takes to unlock all the characters will leave some people to be bored with the repetitition. I’m glad I picked it up, but it only comes off my shelf on occasion.
