One of the first games I got for game boy. I enjoyed it, but it was challenging. Means high replayability. I beat it a few years after I got it. There’s more than you’d expect to explore in this game. The soundtrack starts annoying, but there are a few good tracks on it (esp my fave Level 4: Chai!).Basically, Mario does what he did in Super Mario Bros, but it’s a different princess, and the 4 worlds are based on real world locations (like Easter Island). If you’re into classic gaming or you are aspergic, you’ll enjoy this game. These days, though, newcomers to this game might be a bit separated from the game b/c of it’s presentation. But I’ve enjoyed this game for years even if I graduated to Final Fantasy.
Great item
I can’t believe I got this game for Christmas fourteen years ago. For months after, I would actually *dream* this game. Now, for original Game Boy, it’s no masterpiece like Metroid II, Tetris, or Link’s Awakening. But Super Mario Land is, however, a fine jumping-stomping-smashing-fireball-spitting Mario game, and one of the first and best games available for that giant grey plastic box of yore. While the "save" problem is annoying to me as a gamer now, I’d never even heard of "saving" and "restoring" when I got this game as a kid. It just wasn’t done back then. It was no different from playing Mario Bros. on Nintendo to me.Once you get past the charmingly crude graphics (that’s why we call it a "digital antique"), the sound and gameplay are enough to keep you occupied. Quality Mario action. 3 1/2 stars.
I still remember that I bought this game along with the GameBoy when they were released in 1989 when I was still a teenager. It has everything a Mario fan could expect! Graphics are very similar to Super Mario Bro. for the NES as well as the gameplay and no saving feature! In addition, there are some new elements like divided road at the end of a stage and could ride an airplane in the sky or a submarine in the deep ocean. That’s is why this game is one of my favorites of all time!
This is a fun game that you will find yourself coming back to multiple times. It’s not terribly long (in fact, a seasoned player will be able to beat it in less than half an hour) but what’s in it is entertaining and gives you that child-like sense of wonder we all long for when playing our favorite. Definitely recommend this game to anybody who loves Mario or Nintendo!
Please note: if you buy the Kong Feng GB Boy Colour, this game is #2 on the list of built-in games, plus you get a backlit screen in the process. There is literally no need to buy this game at all, much less pay the outlandish $900.00 price for it. It is LITERALLY the same game ( a direct copy), and the GB Boy Colour also plays Gameboy and Gameboy Color carts, and no, I don’t sell them, I do own one, though, and its a better option than paying this price for it.
Alright, I know there are those with the gripes (can’t save, only 12 levels, blah blah blah) but this game is pretty old guys. This game was released in 1989 and there weren’t very many games back then that you actually could save on. Second, there are only 12 levels and they’re extremely short. You can beat the game in simply 30 minutes. There should be no reason why anyone should have to save at all. It’s very easy to rack up several lives thanks to the bonus game that Nintendo threw in as well. For 1989 and for the early years of the Gameboy these graphics aren’t bad. While they look like something seen on a graphing calculator they’re not bad considering its age.The game isn’t too hard, but it isn’t so easy either. The gameplay is similar to the original Mario Bros. on the NES. Except that you can’t tell which power up you’ve got. That could be a problem. The game can be played by just about anyone. Sure you can’t save but you’ve got to remember the games AGE! Saving wouldn’t become a norm until the early 90’s in the day and age of the SNES.
Age beaten 7
Super cool game! Happy with the condition
Nintendo knew what they were doing they even put classic on the box to show that this game whould live up to all the handheld Mario games.( I would buy get it used )
