Being a “trekkie” from day one in the 60’s up to the last movie, I am so looking forward to this series.
I totally disagree with other reviewers. Yes, this show gets political but that’s EXACTLY what Star Trek always was! The series STNG was always talking about current issues, and if you don’t remember that you need to go back and re-watch. Things that we may take for granted now were edgy and political back then, and it is because of shows like this talking about the issues that things started to change. This show is meticulously written by fans of the original show, who consult with original writers and cast to maintain the true nature of the characters and complete the story arc. Family members who remembered the previous series and movies in great detail immediately connected the dots when old characters and story lines were referenced, so there’s a fantastic attention to detail in this show. If you are a true fan of Star Trek, then you will love this series. It shows that even though its set in the future, society can still repeat the same mistakes over and over, and that the job is never done for those who fight for what’s right. I can’t wait to see how the season ends.I’m not super happy with having to subscribe to CBS just to watch the series because I won’t use the subscription to watch any other shows. I’m literally only paying to watch this one show. But it’s worth it for our family to sit down and watch together every week, and hopefully I will be able to purchase the full season eventually.
Saw Season 1: Episode 1, and it was everything that Star Trek is supposed to be. Cerebral. Complex. Nuanced. Yet the story is driven by relationships and punctuated with action. This is going to be an INCREDIBLE series…Good heavens, how I’ve missed this. ENGAGE!
Unexpectedly being able to continue the adventures of these beloved Next Generation and Voyager characters made the debut season of Picard a touching and joyous experience. Casting of the new members to the Star Trek family were all inspired and brilliant. The writing, the sets, the special effects, every element meshes perfectly to create something so amazing that referring to Picard as a series seems inadequate, to me this was a cinematic experience in 10 installments.Although End Game wrapped up Voyager brilliantly, I always felt there was so much more story left with the Seven of Nine character, so getting to see Jeri Ryan back as Seven is another reason I found this show so satisfying. And last but not least, don’t miss the Ready Room! Getting to geek out on the show with the uniquely qualified Wil Wheaton was great fun, they simply must continue this after-show show as a companion to season two.
I Hope star Trek Picard berings back Wil Wheaton and the rest TNG Crew and Admiral Janeway. It looks really good I have been huge Star Trek forever and I will always will.
Absolutely outstanding. ItĆ¢ā¬ā¢s shot beautifully, itĆ¢ā¬ā¢s paced well, itĆ¢ā¬ā¢s compelling and the production value is top-shelf quality. It looks like a feature film and IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m super excited for next weeks installment. Disregard the reviews made by those who HAVENT ACTUALLY WATCHED IT. Seriously, how can you review something you havenĆ¢ā¬ā¢t seen or experienced? Crawl back in your troll hole.
I’ll admit I may have been made a bit biased by reviews outside of retrolio, but anyway, here’s my take:This is an entertaining show. And part of the interest for me is in watching a near-Octogenarian be as agile as Patrick Stewart is while playing former Admiral Jean-Luc Picard. Pretty inspring–what do I have to do make sure I’m that able-bodied at his age lol? Also, who else got chills when he finally said the word “Engage” in the third episode? As far as story-line, well now-a-days it doesn’t seem very novel–there’s a mix of elements we’ve seen in “Humans”, “Warehouse 12” and even brings in Legolas from LOTR (but with black hair…still so cute) and killer nuns, as well as probably numerous contemporary sci-fi space-oriented shows and movies. It is very dark and colorless; which I don’t have a problem with, actually. It’s an approach…just not one that I’ve really ever taken a liking to, so much. And really, it just feels like every cool thing was just added to this. Yet, I’ve watched 4 episodes so far and each one I’ve felt has been soooooooo slow. Really, Picard holds this up, because his character is an icon, and Stewart is grande in the role. I may make it through the remainder of the series, but I’m in no hurry. Like other shows that help to pass the time well enough, I’ll get to it if/whenever.The true difference, and maybe disappointment, is realizing how much of a classic TNG is; I mean, I’m about to go and watch some more of it now. And I realize that it’s becaus.
I thought the show was pretty good.I think Patrick Stewart who’s 79 and supposed to be 94 as Jean-Luc had a great make-up job and really did look 94.That said he did a pretty good job for a 94 year old but Kirk probably still looks younger.Seven was the best as always. I wish she had a bigger more active role in the show.Maybe a big accidental fight scene between her and Elnor where they then become friendĆ¢ā¬ā¢s afterwardĆ¢ā¬ā¢s.Speaking of which, the new karate kid would probably have been even better if they gave him some real speaking lineĆ¢ā¬ā¢s.When he wasnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t killing people he was busy acting like a small child even though he’s the biggest guy in the show.I didnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t really like the ship captain’s 5 holographic cloneĆ¢ā¬ā¢s.The idea soundĆ¢ā¬ā¢s good but I thought it just came off as annoying and spent too much time on a character that didnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t do much.I also thought him dressing up as some kind of pimp was the low point of the show. The crying doctor was annoying. Almost every scene she was in, her face was all contorted in pain about being forced to be a DB.I was temporarily happy when I thought she died but I should have known better.Ryker was a little more likable then in TNG and Troy a little less unlikable.Hue was likable as always. I was surprised he left so suddenly. The Android girl I liked better as the dead sister.Rafi was pretty good as PicardĆ¢ā¬ā¢s drunken, x-captain, old service buddy, sidekick.Data had several small partĆ¢ā¬ā¢s in the movie but I think there might have been even more if he was a.
First of all, to all the people griping about the CBS sub needed to watch this: I hear you, and feel the same way, but you do the show a disservice by complaining about exec decisions. As for me, I’ve become a ‘subscription surfer’ – in this case, I cancelled Netflix to watch CBS for awhile. As for the show? If you’re only a casual fan, I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy it, it’s very well done. If you’re a Star Trek fan, you should be delighted. I know I am. I was a little worried about Patrick Stewart’s age, but he’s still has his sharp, commanding presence, softened a bit by his ‘Number One’ (dog) and his two helper Romulan friends. My only complaint is having to wait for a new episode each week (gee, just like the old days!) May Patrick Stewart live long and prosper, along with this show.
I’ve been waiting anxiously for the premiere of PICARD since the day the first announcement was made, because I knew I could expect nothing less than the best from Sir Patrick Stewart — and the first episode definitely delivered. So many wonderful callbacks to the world of ST:TNG, a brand-new mystery, fascinating characters, beautiful cinematography. Part of me wishes the entire season was available now, but I know I’d plunge through it too fast if it was, and I want to savor it. Dole it out to myself a bit at a time.I’m paying no attention to the complainers and naysayers. As I was saying to a friend the other day, something like this is very, very subjective. What passes as “real Star Trek” for me might completely fail for someone else (and it’s their right to be unhappy if they have to be). But for me personally, because ST:TNG was always “my” Star Trek (the series I was the most invested in, in a variety of ways), returning to those much beloved characters in a way that opens my imagination and makes me smile with fondness, gasp at the surprises, and shed some tears over terrible loss and missed expectations — it’s all I could ask for, and then some.Five stars. A thousand thumbs up.
