I purchased this game after playing the demo (downloaded free off PSN) and am not sorry I did! It’s very fun, addictive, and fast paced action.. with just enough challenges thrown in (like Helicopters firing missiles at you on a time-trial run!) to keep it from being TOO easy. My daughter loved it to, and we did a lot of split screen racing, which was very fun. Graphics are top notch, and the physics are just realistic enough to make it interesting but not to make the learning curve of how to control the vehicle too difficult or frustrating. You can drift (slide) around corners by tapping the brake while turning the wheel, which is how it really works . . . but when you bump (or slam) sideways into a guard rail, it doesn’t automatically wreck your car, either… and it’s those little bits of forgiveness that make this game very easy to pick up and fun to play!I do have ONE big complaint about this game, however… well, not really with the gamePLAY, but with the software design. You can’t save DIFFERENT seasons for different people! WHAT?? I mean COME ON guys, how hard would it have been to just have a save file system where you pick who you are when you enter “Season” mode, so while I played MY way through the season, somebody else could play THEIR way through it also? And I haven’t tried REAL hard yet, but now that I’m done… it seems like I’m not allowed to play through it again from the start??? What’s THAT all about! I mean, you can replay any track you’ve bee.
I’m not a huge racing fan, but I enjoy it now and then. I debated this game and another popular one that came out at the time and decided on this one. I still haven’t played the other, but I don’t regret my choice at all. I’ve really enjoyed the progress I’ve made so far. It is occasionally frustrating, but nothing out of the ordinary for a video game that isn’t aimed at children. It’s very arcade-y, not a simulation, but that’s exactly what I was looking for.I have not tried multiplayer (I would probably get smoked). One thing you should be aware of that I was not, but it’s not a big deal to me, is that all the cars in this game are fictional. No Lamborghini’s or Ferrari’s! The cars still look really cool, but you won’t be able to unlock your dream car and race it.One other note is that the destruction is all track-based. Your vehicle never gets weapons–your “weapons” are track pieces.
Excellent.
Pretty fun game. I was actually supprised because the price was so low. Good buy.
This is a great arcade racer. It gets really intense and competitive. It’s by no means an easy race but that’s what makes it great. There’s actually strategy involved and getting takedowns is quite satisfying. Think of it as burnout but instead of using the car to take out your competition, you use the environment. If you have a passing interest in arcade racers, don’t hesitate to pick this one up.
Best racing game ever!!! the title says it all because if you don’t have quick reflexes you may fail big at this game. even thought they don’t use real car names is not important it and it was made by Disney which done one heck of a good job at making this game. Some people compare this game to Blur and which one is best it’s Split/second hands down!
If you are a parent, grandparent, uncle, or aunt, don’t worry; this is a game you can confide in being family friendly and a lot of fun. It really is. It has high scoring reviews from top game review sites and magazines.
I saw the trailer for this game and all I could say was “another Burnout?” How wrong was I. While the Burnout fracnhise was always fun, the fun was the explosions, and unfortunately you had to crash or cause a crash to see them, which could lead to you losing the race. The premise for this game goes something like “If Michael Bay produced a reality tv show, it’d be a race where drivers can set off explosive set pieces to try and derail their opponents?” Then you’d have Split Second. it’s actually presented in that style (Minus the Bay) and the game really is fun. This is not your typical racing game where you trry and get out front and stay there. No middle of the pack is your best bet, as if you’re in the lead you can open some short cuts, but you’re also the main target for the “powerplays” the explosive set pieces that you can use to take out cars ahead or you whenyou’re in the lead. I really hope there is a sequel because this game is alot of fun.
Don’t let the Disney tag fool you, if you can drift, this game is worth it. It’s rough, tough, and full of explosives. You go through a bunch of levels with different objectives, like elimination mode where every minute or so it kicks off whoever is in last place, or this one part where you’re trying to survive for as long as you can against a semi dropping barrels of fun all over the place. And don’t get me started on those traps, they’re brilliant, and you need to time those suckers to take advantage of them, or not and either do nothing, or worse, crush yourself.
Split Second is the perfect example of a fun game that you won’t have to pay full price for. This arcade racer combines elements from Blur & Burnout to produce one extremely fun racing game. If you are looking for a racing simulation, with real car models & licenses, you may want to skip Split Second. If you are more into gameplay than car models, this will definitely be a game you want to check out. Great Graphics & gameplay = FUN FUN FUN! Worth the low price you see at retrolio.com!
