This film did a better job bringing Spidey to the big screen than Superman did for the Man of Steel. The reason is that "Superman" took itself pretty seriously. This film doesn’t. It is, quite simply, the comic book come to life.As far as I know I read every Spider-Man comic book from its inception until 1968, when I discovered girls. So I speak here with authority. This film **is** the comic book. If you liked the comic book, you’ll like the film. If not, you probably won’t.I watched the DVD expecting to hate it. Within 10 minutes I was hooked. OK, fine, so the special effects don’t look 100% authentic (they’re great, just not believable). OK, so the Green Goblin is a little hard to believe. So what? Like they were authentic and realistic in the comic book? Give me a break. This is a great movie for what it is. And unlike so many dreary films these days, this one has an actual storyline, a love interest, a dash of humor, and overall is great fun.The only thing I didn’t like about the movie was the ending. Come on, Mary Jane is gorgeous, and Peter seems like a normal guy, excepting that he’s Spider-man. So what’s the deal? OK, I won’t spoil it for you.Great fun. My whole family just got done watching the DVD, and it was a fun evening. My 4 year old son, 10 year old daughter, and their 48 year old dad all loved it. My dear wife never knew that I know all there is to know about Spidey, heh heh.Buy it. You’ll like it.
After years of just owning the VHS, I decided to upgrade. This is a great movie. The cast is wonderful and the storyline is in the spirit of the Marvel Comics creation. I have no issues with the DVD. A solid purchase.
My sons wanted to watch Spider-Man, so we introduced it to them.
This dvd was in great condition. It is a must have for any spiderman fan. This is a two disc set and they are clearly labeled so you know which order they go in.
vhs plays well, i like spiderman movies and this movie was worth the money.
I have a crew of children that had followed my footsteps into loving Marvel Comics. When I bought this for my girls, they all screamed with excitement, not even my little pony gets that much excitement from them. It had arrive within a good reasonable amount of time. Not a single issue with this package!
The original and still my favorite cinematic take on everyone’s favorite web-slinger. The re-packaged Blu-Ray is nice and the film holds up spectacularly (see what I did there?!). I like the story, direction, cast, effects, costuming, and really everything else about this movie.
When I was talked into seeing this film, I wasn’t expecting much. Well, was I wrong… it’s terrific. Pure fantasy, of course, but what a fun story. Pure good vs. pure evil, and throw in a little romance. Lots of fun for everyone. Based on the Spiderman comic book character, it’s even better. Great effects without being a cartoon.

Tobey McGuire plays Peter Parker…a teenager bitten by a genetically altered spider and becomes Spiderman. Great SFX, AWESOME soundtrack, good plot…could’ve done without the unrequited love scenes. William DeFoe plays the Green Goblin who discovers Peter’s secret and tries to destroy him & the ones he loves.
