Touted as the next Walkman, the Playstation Portable (PSP) brings a new face to portable electronic devices. The PSP comes with a brilliant 4.3 in. LCD that is amazingly clear. I can assure you that the cost of this little gem is less than what it costs Sony to manufacture them. Compare the PSP with any handheld device and you’ll see what I mean. Pitted against a Pocket PC, one with the same functionality and 333mhz processor could easily cost double the ticket price for the PSP. This strategy is common among consoles, when the xbox was first released Microsoft realized a loss on every unit sold. But these losses are all made up on the back end by revenue from games and movies. At this time of release, the PSP only has a handful of game and movie titles available. Of which I’ve only tried Ridge Runner and Untold Legends. One being a first person track racing game and other a role playing type fantasy game. The graphics are spectacular and you can definitely tell the evolution in technology with all the options of what can be done in these newer games in comparison to the old game boy advance and other portable gaming devices. No longer are the portable games stripped down, they are all full featured games that are the equivalent of those on full sized consoles and PC’s.UMD media is the format used for movies and games on the PSP. Its like a miniature DVD, capable of holding a full game or a movie. UMD’s have a storage capacity of 1.8 gigabytes, which is a pretty si.
look i bought a ds a couple of months it came out and at the time the graphics were very impressive and it had a stylus which was really a cool feature.a couple of months later psp came out and i bought it the first day with ridge racer.i was a nintendo fanboy and dont get me wrong the ds is a great console but when i played the psp for the first time i thought i was back home playing on my t.v the graphics looked that good i had trouble admiting it at the time but psp is far beyond the ds but the one thing nintendo has over the psp is the durability the ds is a very well made console and the psp is fragile but that only means you have to look after it better.look im sorry to say this because i loved nintendo handhelds but the psp blows it away in terms of graphics sound and games i mean every single game is 3d but personally id buy both because youll end up likeing them for differnt reasons so buy both it might set you back a couple of buckes but its worth it honestlyp.sthe dead pixels really dont matter there on all lcd screens and there so tiny you have to look for them.
the games look amazing, specially a game called ATV “off road fury”, it has a lot of nice looking landscapes.it came with the “lords of dogtown” movies, and I have to tell you. the film looks so crisp and so similar to dvd, its unbelievable. the only thing I hold against Sony is that the UMD movies are so expensive. They should be cheaper than or at least on par with dvds. $29.99 for a movie is ridiculous.it connects to the internet, and its decent looking. except for flash images, which won’t even appear. you can’t watch youtube videos there…lol.you can use software to rip dvds on your computer and transfer them to the psp for watching on the go. i can fit 4 movies on 1 gb card. amazing right? And the quality of the picture is great, and it doesn’t even skip or lag, its smooth like on tv. you need a program called dvd43 to rip dvds (don’t say i told you :)…haha.-you can store pictures, play mp3s (althoug its a little bulky to carry as an mp3 player, i used to connect it to my car stereo).-there’s an application that lets you play radio through your wireless hotspot.-like any lcd screen, in direct sunlight you can’t see a thing.-the battery lasts a lot playing games or videos.-it charges pretty quickly.-one complaint is that the UMDs are VERY flimsy. If you grab the the wrong way, they break. I have repaired them with magic tape though and they keep playing, but they could have done a better job on such expensive discs.I haven’t really used the online play. I have tried.
I have both a Nitendo DS and a PSP and they are entirely different devices. The PSP has much more and advanced technology built into the little form factor. You get wireless internet access right out of the box (with a code update) a high resolution screen, an MP3 and MP4(movie) player, and a movie player. The UMD is really quite an amazing technology that Sony is completely screwing up by keeping proprietary, and that is my only complaint of the entire system. And soon with the newer 2GB+ memory cards you will be able to download games instead of needed to purchase a UMD! It really is a portable media device with adult oriented games. If you are over 16 then I would strongly recommend this device as your primary travel friend.
This is one of the single most revolutionary devices to hit the video gaming and electronic gadget world since the IPOD or the original Game boy. This device can easily replace a handful of portable devices by combining a gaming system, mp3 player, picture viewer (and digital camera one day), portable dvd player, and web browser into a single device. At first glance most would think that a trendy gadget that combines all of these devices probably implements none of them well; They would be mistaken. The PSP provides the capabilities of all these devices AND does them ALL, WELL. The PSP IS the most advanced portable videogame device in existence today, PERIOD (forget about the quirky but innovative Nintendo DS). With a PSP the user can seamlessly switch from game play, to listening to music, to watching a movie, to browsing the internet (the WHOLE internet not like the internet that cell phones provide) to an image viewer. The controls of each device are as intuitive as they are functional. The mini-wide screen offers crisp videogame play as well as DVD quality picture. If you have the means, don’t think twice about this purchase. The PSP has a bright future. If you are thinking about the price, it is worth every penny.
Wow. This thing really exceeded my expectations. I didn’t want to buy one at first, but i’m really glad that I changed my mind. The PSP is the best portable gaming system out there. No joke. Not only can you play games on it, but you can also watch movies, download photos and music from your computer, and go on the internet. Also, it has an LCD screen, and the graphics are really great. Though they’re not as good as the PS2 graphics, they’re still very good, and I wouldn’t even expect it to have graphics that are as good as a console’s, because it’s only portable. If you have read other reviews about the PSP, I’m sure you heard like a thousand times that the PSP doesn’t have good games. Maybe this was true in the past, but right now there are many great games coming out. They’re things like Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Daxter, Ultimate Ghosts n’ Goblins, and more, so all you’ll need is some patience. Also, the movies play really great, and the sound effects for the music are awesome ( especially when you have the headphones on ). You can also download videos from you computer. All of these features are awesome, and they’re really worth it, especially since they feel fleshed out and not just tacked on.However, this system does have its flaws. For one, the 32MB memory stick that comes with the PSP can only hold a few songs and photos, even though it can hold a lot of videogame memory. You’ll probably want to buy a memory card that holds more memory, but these things aren’t very ch.
This psp is a Christmas gift for my 14 yr old nephew. He checked it out and it is in great condition and seems to work fine. (He must wait until Christmas) Delivery was great also. Thank you !
Any gamer worth his or her salt will tell you that it doesn’t matter what a system’s specs are, it’s the games that make it. The Gamecube is a fine machine, but the utter lack of games is what’s killing it, and the opposite is true for the Gameboy: hardly cutting edge (even the DS, which I also own), but keep the games rolling and people keep buying.I confess to being a techno-geek, so I was really impressed by the PSP. It looks supermodel gorgeous, whereas the DS feels cheap and plasticky by comparison. Here is my breakdown:PROS: Beautiful design. Hey look, an Analog stick, hurrah! Are you listing Nintendo? AMAZING graphics. The screen is enormous. Ability to play music, view pictures, etc, though to be honest, I couldn’t care less. I have an MP3 player for my tunes and a computer for my files. Let my PSP play games, and I’ll be happy. Small and efficient storage format.CONS: Power switch too close to right thumb when playing. The proprietary UMD disc design is a bit worrisome, as is any non-standard format. The whole movie aspect of PSP will crash and die within a year, guaranteed. Why would you buy a movie for this unit when you can get the DVD for cheaper and you can play it in more places? The unit feels a bit fragile and easy to scratch. The battery life isn’t great, but no surprise there. That said, all those cons will die out when I can play Grand Theft Auto on my PSP, which should be this summer or fall!Overall, this is more an adult gamer’s machine.
The Sony PSP arrived on December 14, 2004 amidst a flurry of press, rumors and excitement. If you’ve read any of my reviews on video games and video game systems, you will know that I’m a Nintendo enthusiast… always have been. My Nintendo excitement mostly stems from the systems (NES, SNES, N64, etc) – but I still have room in my heart for the gameboy lines and the Nintendo DS. That said – I gave the Sony PSP a ‘fair shake’ and am really impressed!First things first – the Sony PSP is gorgeous. It screams for attention the way that the iPod line does. Slick design. Huge, brilliant screen that renders fantastic graphics. Browses the internet. Plays DVDs. And more. The 4.3 inch screen is really the highlight of the PSP. Its beautiful. Whether you are playing a game or watching the Spiderman 2 DVD – its gorgeous and renders graphics wonderfully. So whether you are looking for a portable gaming system or a small movie player, the PSP is a great option. The PSP is laid out similarly to a regular Playstation controller: the buttons, directional pad, analog stick, L button, R button… The menu and navigational systems are all intuitive and all very much Playstation. While the video playback feature is super cool – there are a couple weak points. 1) Most everyone agrees that a large Memory Stick Duo card is a necessity to take advantage of the multimedia aspects of the PSP. 2) The multimedia aspects are not perfectly (or fully) developed. The MP3 playback is less sophisticated than so.
I went out to our local Gamestop at midnight on Wednesday night to be one of the first to get my grubby little hands on the Sony PSP and to tell you the truth, as I was waiting in line to shell out my $249, I stood there thinking that I must be crazy. Prior to this my only exposure to the PSP was checking out sites like PSPWorld.com and PSP411.com for their reviews. I hadn’t even seen a demo of it in person. Well, I get home, plug that sucker in to charge it up and pop in Need for Speed Underground Rivals…and I was literally blown away. For such a small device to be able to pump out the graphics the PSP delivers is really amazing. This game plays just as well as the PS2. I still can’t believe how awsome the graphics are. I popped in the Spider Man 2 movie and it’s like having my own personal DVD player. The movie looked that good. I can’t wait for one of my friends to get one too so that we can test out the wireless multi player functionality. Now the system isn’t perfect though. Luckily my screen was free from any dead pixels that others are complaining about so it is possible to get a good screen from the initial batch. My biggest complaint has to be the short battery life. I was able to play maybe 3 or 4 hours before the battery conked out right in the middle of a game. I thought I lost my game but was happily surprised to find out when I plugged it into the wall that my game was right where I left off. That was pretty cool. The buttons feel just like the P.
