This game is the greatest fighter to ever exist. No other game even comes close. Nothing.Let’s see.Graphics: 5 out of 5.Sound: 5 out of 5.Controls: 5 out of 5.Replay Value: 5 out of 5.Now for more detail, The graphics are beyond belief. This game has the best graphics on DC. Even later games still haven’t matched it. The sound, well the songs are catchy and non-annoying for a change in most fighters. The controls are so simple and yet so deep. Blocking actually is fun in this game. Yeah, Blocking. And for the replay value, well this game’s mission kode has so many twists thrown into fights, its very, very cool. Plus you can unlock artwork that’s very cool. All in all, this game alone is worth buying a Dreamcast. But this game will soon become the 2nd best fighter around. Soul Calibur 2 is coming out next year.
Great game one of the best for DreamCast especially if you like fighting games. If your just picking up a dreamcast and looking at games and own the later soul caliburs (SC2-4 are out at the time of this review) you will in my oppinion still find this game enjoyable its fell is much the same as SC2. Though I personaly enjoy this SC over SC2.The only con to this game is the lack of costumes for characters (Most have two a select few have an unlockable 3rd). Also mission mode is a little on the short side a little easier then SC2. Other then those two things this is a great game. A must have for DC.
You know, the only reason I wanted Dreamcast was for this game. I didn’t care for other games except this game. THIS GAME rockS!! The graphics are the best I have every seen and there are like 100 moves for each charator. The great thing about this is that you can unlock charactors after you have beaten the game with other charators. THere is also mission mode where you go on “small mission” and then you can unlock stuff like stages and special features There is practice mode which I find very useful because I can practice my moves without getting disturbed or attacked by other players. My personal favorite is Maxi because I luv the Nunchaku and the moves look so good and his moves are easy and powerful. My least favorite charactor is Yoshimitsu because he is weak and doesn’t have very powerful attacks. I have the prima official strategy book and that tells be all the secrets about this awesome game. Let me tell you a little about the story line. THere was once a night of Cervantes and he had the soul Blade. He was a great Knight and ruled for many years until Taki and Sophita destroyed the(all these charators you can play in the game). So One day, a young german knight named Siegfried came across Cervantes body. THe body burst into flames and Siegfried is now Nightmare. You are trying to get the soul edge and deafeat inferno. This game is very interesting because of its story and the way the charactors battle. There is going to be a SOul CAlibur 2 for Playstation 2, Gamecube, and XBOX! I can’t wait to get it because this game is the best game of all time. I still think that this game is the only good game for dreamcast! They sohld make this game for every system like the Tony Hawk series becase this is a great fighting game. Let me tell you about Maxi. His weapon is the nunchaku and it is very fast and only very experienced people could see his moves soming. They are also very coolto watch. You might find yourself trying to do those moves(I tried to do them) He has a lot of combos. The most powerful person is Nightmare. He has the Soul Blade and can destroy a lot of things in his way. But beware! His moves are sooo slow, everyone can counter them! The weakest person I would say is Taki or another chinese girl. THe are fast and efficient but you would find yourself trying to puch and pull. They aren’t that strong. To make up their strengh, they have quick speeds and fast attacks. Here is a study for the boss, inferno. He is a flame and to my opinion the hardest to beat. He only has like 4 moves of his own but every time you battle him, he can be one of any of the fighters. When I mean that, He has a same weopon as that fighter and the same moves but He is still a ball of flame. His moves are really powerful and you can like take the person out in like 3 moves. His stage is in Space and very creepy compared to some of the other stages. Edge master is just like Inferno except he doesn’t have any “only him” moves. He is the master of weapons but not as powerful as Inferno. He is a old man who has a very long beard. His hair is either red or white depending on his costume. AHH. Soul Calibur is a excellent game and I hope if you have a dreacast, BUY THIS GAME thanks for taking the time to read my review Alan Y.

Forget any other reason for buying a Dreamcast — Soul Calibur remains as the sole good reason for spending the money. It’s worth the money, it’s worth the money, and it’s worth your time to check it out. You may have some trouble grabbing a copy of Soul Calibur, because every Dreamcast owner probably purchased this at the counter when picking up their system. Soul Calibur is the ultimate in fighting games – sleek, graphically unparalleled, and deep – and ranks as the best fighting game out there. It’s set apart from its competitors by the double knockout of a great look and solid game play. Based on last years hit arcade game, and a sequel to the smash PlayStation hit, Soul Blade, Soul Calibur pits ten fighters against each other in a standard two-out-of three battle for supremacy. But might doesn’t always make for right in this game. Soul Calibur is unprecedented in its game balance, with large, impressive bulky fighters on the same ground as small, fast players. The ten starting fighters are just that – a starting lineup. Through game play and advancement you’ll uncover many cameo fighters, like Yoshimitsu from Tekken, and Seung Mina and Hwang from Soul Blade. There are also mystery stages and costume changes to uncover. Soul Calibur also offers many new options that the arcade version couldn’t. Battle Mode, Team Battle, and Survival modes all lend the game an enormous replay value, while the sometimes complicated move system is helped out by a very thorough Practice mode that explains every move and shows you how to execute them. Graphically, the game evolves past its arcade counterpart in every respect, with incredible detail and superior polygon counts. Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast is without a doubt the best looking fighting game ever, with nuances like muscle rippling, facial expressions of pain, fear, and anger, and caustic lighting effects that dazzle the eyes. The game also excels in the area of sound, achieving what other games only dream of – the perfect balance of music, voice, and sound effects. Clashing swords, primal yelling, and blood-pumping heroic themes course through the game, all meshing for the perfect sonic mix. Namco has retooled the fighting dynamics so that both button-mashers and serious students of ass-whupping can both benefit and prosper in the game. Although novices can easily beat the game on easier settings, the game definitely favors those who understand Soul Calibur’s complexities, like dodging, vertical and 8-way run attacks, and stagger blocking. Someone who has mastered the arcade game will find the differences in the moves trifling, while every one else will scarcely notice. What are you waiting for? Sonic can wait, TrickStyle will still be pulling tricks next week, and NFL 2K has a millenium ahead of it. There’s no excuse for you not to be enjoying the best fighting game this year, and possibly the best ever. Power Stone and the laughable Mortal Kombat Gold can’t touch the soul of this fighter, but you can.
Hands down the greatest fighting game ever made. Almost a decade after its release it still tops of even the newest fighters out there. Dreamcast had the most potentioal over all the other systems, to bad Sega Sold out. Every character, level, skill, story goes above and beyond. Top’s the most recent Soul Calibur 4 that was released this past July. This game should be ported exactly the way it is to Next-Generation systems with a graphic enchancement. To bad many have not been able to witness the first Soul Calibur because it was on the Dreamcast. It needs to get recognized by the Nex-Generation gamers.

I got this game back in 1999 when I first got my dreamcast. This game is still coming out with sequels. I think that this is a great game!
There is doubt about it, this was the game that showed the dreamcast could be a major competitor. Being a big fan of the arcade version, I must say(for the billionth time), that this one surapasses the arcade version. This is a very strategic fighting game, And it is extremely deep gameplay. Although my only compaint is that a button masher can beat the computer. That is my compliant about all 3-d fighting game(as opposed to earlier, Street Fighter2, And Street fighter alpa, series games.), is that button mashing can get you over. Although, in 3-d fighting games(like Tekken and, of course Soul Calibur), you cant pull off impressive, beautiful, combos with just button mashing. For the most part, this game has alot of relay value, lots of of unlockable characters. The mssion mode, which adds even more to replay value, and the cool museum mode. In my opinion, Time attack mode, is useless. The survival mode, while great, is just too easy. Another problem, the final Boss, Inferno. He is pretty easy as well. But this is common in 3-d fighters. But all in all this is a solid fighting game. It is just a bit too easy. Even ultra hard mode, can be easily won by a competent Soul Calibur player.(although button mashers can win the first two stages). This game is a must-have for Dreamcast owners.
Wow. I pride myself on my vocabulary skills but this is the only one-word definition I could come up with for this game. Soul Calibur is the best fighting game ever made…hands down. It also ranks in my top five favorite video games of all time, which is saying a lot because I’ve played hundreds of games. Now that I’ve said that, I can get down to the big question: why should you spend your hard earned cash on this game? I’ll tell you why…Graphically, Soul Calibur has some of the best visuals on any system, including PS2. The first time I saw this game in action I was amazed. I’ve simply never played a game that looks this good. The character animation is incredibly lifelike, both during fighting and in the pre-rendered opening and victory scenes. The backgrounds are very realistic and add to the overall atmosphere of the game. The music is well done and the sound effects are tremendous. The sounds of blade hitting blade, blade hitting air, and blade hitting flesh are dead-on accurate. I mean I’ve never actually heard somebody being hacked into with a broadsword in real life, but I’m willing to bet that it would sound pretty close to the sound you hear in Soul Calibur. Other impressive sound effects are the character voices both during and between battles. From the grunts and roars of the hulking Astoroth to the Bruce Lee-esque high-pitched hooting and hollering of the nunchaku-swinging Maxi, these characters come to life.Control is extremely tight and responsive. Which makes it a lot easier to learn new moves. Every move in the game is easily accessible through the in-fight move menu. Just push pause during a battle and the entire arsenal of moves for your character is available for the taking. The characters are also very well balanced each with their own strengths and weaknesses. There are 19 characters in all, although nine of them must be unlocked through beating the game in arcade and mission modes. It’s through all of the unlocking hidden characters, levels, costumes, options, art cards, game modes, etc., that the game shows its true depth. Each character has his/her own unique weapons and fighting styles. Each character also has hundreds (yes, hundreds) of attacks, combos, and special moves to keep you coming back for more.As if you needed any more reason to pick this game up, I will mention that the menu system is very streamlined and straight-forward, the two-player mode is a blast, the art gallery is surprisingly well done, the story lines are more than adequately interesting, and at the recently discounted price you’d have to be crazy to pass this one up…Wow.

“Welcome back to the stage of history” (no puns intended), when this game took the world by storm: the characters, the stages, the music, the weapons, the commentary (announcer), etc. This game is still a classic and the best of the series. I only got to play this game once in the dreamcast back in the day and I thought I’d relive the days of its glory through Xbox live but that is a mistake and to all you Xbox live members who have yet to download it, I suggest you get the dreamcast version. Warning: the xbox arcade version (pretty self explanatory)is directly from the arcade port, that means no opening intro (as in the dreamcast), no extra weapons, “NO MISSIONS” mode and worst of all NO….., I repeat, “NO ONLINE PLAY”. in a few words the Xbox 360 live version is a half-assed rendition of the series. The Dreamcast is where you want to relive the legacy of Soul Calibur. My favorite part of this game is the announcer that I love so much but you don’t hear him a lot since Soul calibur 2 and on. Soul calibur 3 did improve by bringing the commentary back but lacks the fire that the original did. If you are a true fan soul calibur fan (or if you’ve teared out every bit of you hair like I did from the awful SC4)”The legend (of the dreamcast version) will never die”!

First of all this game has awesome graphics, nothing on any other system/computer compares to them. The game is fun with a bunch of characters, and several that are unlockable, plus a mission mode where you have certain goals with story elements that comply with the story of the game, playing through the mission mode you earn points so you can spend them to view artwork, viewing the art can unlock new options, arenas etc. Buy it.
