My grandchildren (agaes 3-7) loved playing these races at Christmas when we were all together. It’s hard to find Wii racing games that are easy enough for children this age, but this one was.
My 5 year old and I love this game. There are tons of challenges, things to unlock, new tracks and characters to choose from. The game play is very similar to Mario Kart so there isn’t a huge learning curve. The powerups/weapons are awesome and plentiful. The loading time isn’t instant (about ~1 between saves) but this game is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone that likes the Mario Kart type game. Best racing game we have gotten since Mario Kart by far.
I love Mario Kart (MK) but eventually like most things it got boring. Sonic All Stars Racing is just as much fun as MK and in some ways even better. The levels are richer in graphics and its even fun to watch someone else play so you can see all the things missed when you’re focusing on playing the game. I love that each character has it’s own all-star move opposed the regular old (yet beloved) Bullet Bill. Some of the all-star moves are really cool and others are comical. In MK it was always too easy for someone in dead last place to come back with a Bullet Bill and win the race and it seemed like MK punished players who race well and stay in front of the pack. Sonic doesn’t have this problem. You can make up a certain amount of places but its a more fair system. There is none of the clobbering the 1st place racer at the finish line like MK that I detest so much in MK. The cons of this game are minor and few but here they are: Sometimes the game lags presumably from the underpowered Wii and rich graphics, it’s rare to find other people to play with on WFC (but at least they don’t seem to cheat like in MK), and it can be very easy if you’re not careful to get stuck behind a wall or something putting you so far behind a race that it’s impossible to catch up. My final complaint is that each level takes a solid 20-30 seconds to load. This can really add up when you’re playing a grand prix. Otherwise, you have all the elements of MK just with different terminology and char.
Great game!! My 4yr old Loves it & him & my husband have been having a Blast! The different worlds are pretty kool & he loves being able to pick who he wants to be. Worth the $ & the shop sent it New as advertised & came pretty quickly!
I had to return after buying it, my grandson has it and loves it, he’s 9 tomorrow! What I liked is that I was taken care off with my return!
We own Mario Kart and the only track I can really race on is Moo Moo Meadow (the easiest track). I can play on virtually all of the Sega All Stars tracks because most do not have a large amount of drop off risks. I actually beat my daughter when I play with "Tails" the fox (Tails is my favorite character for this reason. He has a tornado "all star" talent that is awesome! ). I think that because this game is a bit easier, it’s a lot more family friendly. There is a large range of characters (including a cute female one called "Amy" – a pink hedgehog). To me, the tracks have more vibrant colors. There is an announcer who calls out what is happening during the race (if someone gets blown up, etc., it’s announced). If you are trying to please everyone in your family, then this game is probably for you.
Favorite game for my two of my grandsons – 6 and 3. They like it more than Mario Cart Racing. 3 year old has been able to drive the wheels off this game ever since he was 2. Believe he would go into withdrawal if we took it away from him. Not sure this is a good thing but it is a real kick to watch him truly challenging and often beating his older brother, father and uncle. Can’t beat 3 year old hand / eye coordination. .
I wanted to play with this game a full solid week so that I could give a solid review. I could not wait for this game to come out. I am a big Mario Kart fan and have been looking for a game just as good as Mario Kart. I’ve purchased some other racing games like Speed Racer, Excitebots and Sims Racing. All these games are pretty good but they do not compete with my favorite Mario Kart. That is until now with Sonic & Sega All Star Racing. The similarites to Mario Kart are pretty much the same. You have your Grand Prix Racing that you have to come in top 3 to move on to the next level. You also have your Time Trial Racers. The most fun I have is playing live on Wi Fi with other people. You have different courses like Mario Kart but the racing syle is different. In Sonic it is all about the drift. When you curve around a corner you have to drift. In doing this you get a turbo boost that moves you ahead. You also pick up weapons to use against your opponents like Mario. When you are towards the back of the race you may also get an All Star move, sort of like the Rocket in Mario to move you ahead. So the similarties are really close when it comes to Sonic Vs. Mario. The only difference is learning how to race in a different way than Mario. Also when you are in the air you can flip your vehicle up to 3 x’s and this will also give you a Turbo Boost when you land. Now, what I don’t like about this game is that you can’t destroy your fellow racers like you can on Mario. You really can’t.
My child downloaded this game and plays it. I’m unable to review this game because I don’t play it.
I purchased this for my fiancee because we really enjoyed playing Mario Kart Wii together, and I was hoping for a similar experience with this title. It definitely doesn’t stray far from the Mario Kart formula, which was nice, but it wasn’t nearly as enjoyable. It’s not a bad game, but Mario Kart is way better in my opinion. Most of the levels are ugly, have low resolution textures, and many of them are too bright and colorful to figure out where the track is actually going. And not having a mini map that’s the shape of the track is a deal breaker for me.
