The Simpsons: Hit & Run
The Simpsons: Hit & Run is a 2003 action-adventure game develop by Radical Entertainment and publish by Vivendi Universal Games. It is base on the American animated sitcom The Simpsons, and is the twenty-second installment in the Simpsons series of video games.
The game follows the Simpson family and their friend Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, who witness many strange incidents that occur in Springfield; security cameras, mysterious vans, crop circles, and a “new and improve” flavor of the popular soft drink Buzz Cola that causes insanity. Taking matters into their own hands, they discover numerous shocking secrets, and soon realize these incidents are part of a larger alien conspiracy, cause by Kang and Kodos. The gameplay largely focuses on exploration and missions; players often race enemies and interact with supporting characters on time quests. The game also features many elements found in role-playing games, such as explorable worlds and side tasks.
Gameplay
Hit & Run (top) and Grand Theft Auto III (bottom). Hit & Run, inspire by the Grand Theft Auto series, shares some similarities with the games, including the radar, and a strong focus on their driving aspect.
The Simpsons: Hit & Run features seven levels over three separate maps, each with missions and a sub-plot. The player can control one specific character in each level. The game’s playable characters are Homer (play twice), Bart (play twice), Lisa, Marge, and Apu.
When travelling on foot, the player character can walk, jump, run, and perform three types of melee attacks: a normal kick, a jumping kick, and a smashing move. To drive, the player can either hitchhike and control the driver in one of the many civilian vehicles that drive endlessly around town, or use a phone booth to select a car. Several hidden vehicles are present in each level and can also be use by the player if found. The game’s driving missions are also similar to those of Grand Theft Auto III. In both games, the player races against other characters, collects items before a timer runs out, and wrecks other cars.
Format
The game has a sandbox-style format that emphasizes driving, and the player controls their character from a third-person view. The character can perform certain acts of violence, such as attacking pedestrians, blowing up vehicles, and destroying the environment. The Simpsons: Hit & Run has a warning meter that indicates when the police will retaliate for bad behavior. Located in the bottom-right corner of the screen, the circular “hit and run” meter fills up when the character runs people over or destroys objects, and decreases when they cease doing so. When full, several police cars chase the character for the duration of the hit and run.
Each level contains items the player can collect, such as coins, which can be gather by either smashing Buzz Cola vending machines, Buzz Cola boxes or wasp cameras, the latter of which become more elusive as the game progresses. The coins can be use to buy new cars and player outfits, some of which are require to progress through the game. The player can also collect Itchy and Scratchy cards, with seven cards hidden in each level. When the player collects all seven cards in a level, they will unlock one of seven tracks for the ‘Bonus Game’ racing mini-game.
When all 49 cards are collect in all the levels, the player unlocks a special The Itchy & Scratchy Show video. Several events cause the player to lose coins; because the character cannot die, injuries cause the player to lose coins. If the player is apprehend during a hit and run, they will be fine 50 coins.

Kids like it
I remember as a kid seeing my older sister playing this game on the original Xbox. I thought Homer Simpson running from the cops in his underwear was the funniest thing. I’m so glad I found it again online. The gameplay is pretty good for the year the game was made. There’s a whole bunch of fun collectibles and show references to look out for. If you’re a die-hard fan of the Simpsons, I heavily recommend this.
Even though I find this game very low brow…my son loves it. He plays it often and laughs at the corny remarks and standard Simpson’s humor.
It looks brand new, no scratches or Mark’s or even finger prints on the disc. The case does too! I got it two days earlier then what I had been told would be the earliest arrival date. Thank you for the game, nostalgia here I come.
Man I just have to say this is one of the best games ever. I won this game really fast but it was still worth buying because it’s one of the best simpsons games so far. You get to play as homer, apu, marge, lisa, and bart. There are like 56 missions and in each level you are assigned 7 missions. There is a bonus mission in every level but you don’t have to win it because it’s only a bonus. So if you don’t win them then there are only 49 missions in all. The bonus missions are also hard to find because you have to find the character with a exclamation point on his head. There are 9 movies and you unlock them as you progress. There are also 49 cards 7 in each level which you can find and every time you find them in a level you unlock a little mini game with a different course each time you get all the cards in a level. If you find and get all the cards in the whole game you then have to go to lisa’s level and go to that shop where comic book guy is and purchase a ticket, after you get it go to the aztec theater talk to the teenager and you will see an itchy and scratchy cartoon whick later will be added to your movies selection screen. You also can buy cars and unlock them. There are also 3 racing missions in each level all you do is find someone with a checkerd flag above their heads and talk to them, each time you beat all three racing missions you get a car. There are seven levels total. First you play as homer then bart then lisa then marge then apu then bart again and finally.
This game is a blast. It is pretty straightforward but some of the tasks took me multiple tries and multiple days to get. Even my husband took turns when I got too frustrated and then he got frustrated and so we both stopped for a while. But it is a fun game. There are little secrets all over the place and the different cars are fun to drive. Its a good game for any age because the controls and game design are straightforward, like I said. I have yet to finish the game (because I’m stuck) but I am a good ways thru and have enjoyed it immensly so far.
My son has a kindle and he loves finding all the free apps. He is an 8 year old boy and so this app has been by far a favorite of his and it is well enough made that it keeps him entertained and it’s not too hard for him to use this app.
Happy, happy!!
Good game. I just bought it, because I liked the tv series when I was little. I like it. Homer is funny.
One of my favorite PS2 games. Who doesn’t love ‘The Simpsons,’ GTA style?
