Cool
I’m quite happy with this! Just remember *unplug the paddles*. I thought something was wrong with the joystick controller while I was trying to play ‘asteroids’. I went back, checked out some other reviews and realized that you have to unplug the paddles. Its a tad inconvenient but we’ll live. I’m glad I decided to get this, and try it out first, since I got it for my grandkids for Christmas.
Totally worth it!Grew up playing Atari & this wireless remote Atari flashback console is what I’ve been wanting for a long time!Easy hookup, HDMI & the sound / picture quality is awesome! It doesn’t include Pac Man but definitely all my other childhood favorites.Would recommend!
but it’s way better than the 2019 gold 9 which is a huge waste of money, massive connectivity problems with the controllers just for the addition of burger time. Though really, when these things first came out it was a nice item for nostalgia at half the price of this one, but really? my blackberry from from fifteen years ago can sort thru menus better than any of these “consoles”. digging thru titles for a specific game is a tremendous mess. No bad on the shop, the item is just lacking.
Wireless and paddle controllers work fine. Satisfied with purchase. Console works as expected and as described. No issues.
Pros: easily connected to my 55″ Samsung TV, wireless joystick works just fine (needs two AAA batteries)Cons: some of the games might be early or incomplete revs compared to original retail (e.g. Space Invaders seems to be missing some options the original cartridge had), the manual for each game is a brief summary of the original manual and sometimes sloppily written [neither of these are serious, but warrant a four-star rating; I’m biased because I ported Activision Anthology: Remix Edition to the Mac some years ago, and we had scans of the original manuals plus the TV commercials]Notes: as someone mentioned earlier, connecting the paddles may disrupt your wireless joystick usage (choose one or the other). It’s a cool and inexpensive gadget….no idea of the long-term quality (some reviews point to issues), but I thoroughly wasted a Friday night in front of the TV and I’m happy ;-)
I purchased this thru a link a friend was sharing ~ I’m so happy I was told about it ! Reasonable price, we love this Atari system ~ it’s so good to have for when the grand kids are visiting !
My favorite things about this console:- Small and lightweight, easy to carry around and store.- 120 games in a beautifully laid out and functional menu system, using the original cartridge box artwork.- HDMI connectivity, at 720p. Even though these games are nearly 40 years old, the video is crystal clear and the sound is great.- The ability to pause, save/load games, and replay to get through tough spots in games are outstanding new features.- Standard 2600 joystick controllers can be used, if you prefer them over the wireless ones.- "Yar’s Revenge" and "Pitfall" are worth the price of admission alone. YR is such a great game, and I’ve so many fond memories of playing it for hours on end. I’d never even heard of the included "Yar’s Return", which expands on the original game’s challenges is some very cool ways.- "Space Invaders" isn’t the original 2600 version, it the Taito arcade version. Awesome!- Most importantly, the trip down memory lane is a wonderful thing to enjoy. Here’s some concerns I’ve read in various places, that perhaps I can help clear up:- Can’t pause or save games: Granted, for some reason this isn’t included in the instructions, but I easily found out how to display that menu using a Google search. Simply pull back on the joystick and press select to access it.- Screwdriver required to install batteries: The battery lid is held closed more securely with the single screw, which I actually prefer. If there wasn’t one, I suspect.
I loved the 2600 as a kid, and this is very nostalgic. No Pac Man or Ms. Pac man, but other than that, a total trip down memory lane. I know other folks had problems with these systems, which is a real bummer, but mine works just fine, at least so far! My husband originally bought me the Flashback 7 at Urban Outfitters, but when we opened it on Christmas morning, there was only one joystick, so we went ahead and ordered this newer model from retrolio. As many others have said, the joysticks won’t work properly if the paddles are connected to the unit. Another hint: my TV wouldn’t recognize it at first, so I disconnected the paddles, and then it found it just fine. So if you’re having trouble with the hook up, make sure the paddles aren’t connected. Overall, a total hoot and real nostalgia trip.
Cool old games. Just like old times. Graphics are just like 30 years ago. Funny how bad they were, but the games are still fun.
