This game is a Dungeon Crawler that is rarely seen anymore these days. Shining in the Darkness is actually part of the “Shining Force” storyline. The main villian in this game Dark Sol, real name is Mephisto, is the child of Misheala and Darksol from Shining Force 1. You would find this out if you played Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict (gamegear) as he is born in that game. I have played Shining Force my whole life up until it stopped being “Shining Force” with the last one being Shining Force 3 for the Sega Saturn. I love the Shining Force series for it’s rich story and engrossing gameplay. Also, I own all the games that encompass that era I stated previously. If you enjoy the “Shining” games after Shining Force 3 for the Sega Saturn I.E Shining Force EXA, Shining Force NEO, Shining Blade, etc this is not the game for you.Shining in the Darkness is a dungeon-crawler where you control up to 3 characters including you, the main character, in battles against the forces the evil in a story that actually do connect to each other if you played every game in the series and get into it. If SEGA was to actually respect the North American public and release the series properly the proper order to play these games are Shining Force 1 (genesis), Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict (game gear japenese only), Shining Force 2 (genesis). If you were to play the games in that order you would get a very good story that would leave wanting for more.P.S. if you look hard you could play th.

altho’ the game arrived in a timely manner and the game seems to be in good working order, i was disappointed that it did not come with it’s storage case, but, terribly disappointed that the gaming instruction book was not included and i am unable to play it … if the provider of this game would send such book to me, i will most happily change this negative review asap … thanks

This was my first RPG, I new nothing about them before, it was funny, confusing, and terribly addicting. This was back in the early 1990’s, and back then I had no online help, we had to call on the phone 1-900-xxx-xxxx sega help numbers for hints; and paid $1-$2 per minute! But I loved it then and still love it now. This and Shining Force 1 and 2, also Phantasy Stars 2 and 4. Once a dungeon Crawler, … always a dungeon crawler!!!!
Natürlich nicht mit heutigen Spielen vergleichbar jedoch macht es immer noch einen Rießen Spaßein so altes Siel durchzuspielen. Ob es jedoch jeden Geschmack trift kann ich auch nicht sagen.
Great addition to the Shining series. Definitely worth checking out. Loved it as a kid and still do. If you get it used expect to replace the battery.
