Shellshock Vietnam is a game I thoroughly enjoyed. It attempts to depict the horrors and the atrocities committed in this controversial war. I am sure it dose not even come close to the real thing, but this is the closest the majority of us will ever get.Previous reviewers have made negative comments about the game, complaining that the graphics are dull, that there was unnecessary blood and gore and inappropriate sexual themes which should not be included in a game based on this unstable period in America’s history. First off, I’d like to correct these people. I have read from veterans who fought in Vietnam. One veteran described how he still had nightmares of someone screaming the dreadful word ‘incoming’, and how a second later after hearing that one word, how all his people he sided with during the war would just be blown to pieces around him by these mortar attacks, body parts literally raining down on top of him. So, there is nothing wrong showing what these men had to face during the war. In fact, the game could have improvised on this aspect. As for sexual themes, ha! Soldiers of this war would take R&R trips to Thailand just for that purpose. In fact, many Thais blame Americans for introducing prostitution to their country as a solution to poverty. The graphics could have been better, I suppose, but I did not think it was that bad. The grainy effect could get on some people’s nerves. It is true that in most missions you must follow the script that the director intended.
This game has riveting action and does attempt to convey the feeling of being in the middle of the Vietnam war. What prevents it from being excellent is that it tends to be repetitive. For instance, the mission where you enter the temple to kill the hated VC general is overwrought – it’s the same type of firefight over and over again. The enemy AI is good, not spectacular; they tend to march forward in a line like zombies. There were too many times when I just got tired of killing enemies. It requires some creative thought, not alot. If your only going to play one Vietnam game, play the Conflict version instead.
Thanks

first off i’d like to say i’m very interested in military history and the vietnam war in peticular. i really love vietnam movies (platoon, apocalypse now, full metal jacket, deer hunter, etc) and i like a lot of war games, too.alright i’ve only had this for about two days and i’m on the third level but already its not as bad as people say it is.its not perfect but i actually think its better than conflict: vietnamits definetly better for gameplay and graphics.although i like conflict: vietnam i think at points it was a bit unrealistic. like the russian roulette level for example.this game may turn out to be the same, but so far it seems to be alot more accurate and i have to say that overall this is a better game.-ratt fink
SHELL SHOCK: NAM 67 – Right off the bat the language is what you would expect from service men in war. The visual is a little gritty, but just like with any progressivley entertaining, game you get used to it. It has a similar feel to Conflictt:Vietnam, which I highly recommend. Getting used to the controls takes a little while, but keep practicing it’s worth it. The music puts you in the era, and a variety which for any 60’s music fan, should get the soundtrack. The game can have a serious feel to it. It keeps you thinking because you have, NVA that blend nicely with the background foliage, booby traps, and challenging missions. The most important thing to remember is to use all your weapons, keep them loaded, and look hard for replacement weapons. I’m the player who still likes finding good PS2 games at good prices. This is an excellent game, so look for a used in good conditions and a great price, and enjoy.
Fun game came on time brand new
Game works great is fun and the graphics are great good shop game in like new condition.
So, I just finished watching “We Were Soldiers” with Mel Gibson, turned on the PS2 and popped in my copy of Shell Shock Nam ’67.What a great transition! It’s just like being in the movie. Don’t pay any attention to the few negative reviews. I’ve played all the ‘Nam games for PS2 and many FSP’s and this is a winner! Bloody, yes, but so is war. I get so tired of people using this forum to so quickly complain about every little detail of a game. IT’S A GAME. If you like war games and shooters, lock and load, and Enjoy!Five Stars!!!!
