A- grade
This appears to be one of Sanada’s earlier outings and the martial arts are second to none. Sanada plays the perfect ninja (Gen Bu) who is after the mirror maker Fukuda, otherwise known as uncle Fu. Gen Bu quickly finds his hands full when he’s constantly thwarted by Fu’s invincible protĆĀ©gĆĀ©, Sun Jing and his halfwit sidekick Chee. With dialogue in both Chinese and Japanese, the action is non-stop from start to finish. Other characters include the Magician and Gen Bu’s long-suffering wife Akane, who has tricks up her sleeve. The music’s pretty cool too. My only gripe would be the direction…the film is completely fired up and will probably leave you feeling exhausted after watching, so if you watch this film, make sure you have some time to wind down afterwards!Recommended for Bruce Lee afficionadoes and Asian film lovers. If you liked this one you would probably like Enter The Dragon and the Rush Hour trilogy.
Crazy movie – highly recommended
Pretty good little flick with nice production values and excellent fight scenes. Hiroyuki Sanada acquits himself very well in the fight and acrobatic scenes and is one of the few fighters who looks to hold his own against my boy Hwang Jang Lee who just sort of shows up out of nowhere at the end. Silly overall but a lot of fun, one of those movies I remember as a kid that still hold up well. Plus this movie has one of the stupidest and funniest "HJL lay down and die" endings ever.
Classic movie. They don’t make it like this anymore.
Great story! Good martial arts with true and genuine choreography for the respective disciplines.
One of the best martial arts/ninja films out there! Great action and chemistry/comedic timing between the leads.
Excellent stunts. Hilarious makeup. Good sets. Evil villains. Ninja vs. kung fu. What more could you ask for from this genre?
One of the best martial arts movies I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. Amazing choreography as well as amazing comedy. This is one to watch.
Good fighting , they say some funny stuff
