Great product! Used to play the game everyday before school started up but i’m going to get back to it. It’s fun, easy to understand once you start digging through the menus and all and all a stellar game. I could not play the guitar when getting this, but I bought one specifically for this and I wish I would have done so months before. In my first 2 weeks, I could actually play something (not anything grand, but a mix of freestyle and using some of the practice techniques in use with different chords). If you’re a person who is trying to learn guitar then definitely check this out, you won’t regret it!
This is really not a game. There is no career mode with tour buses and goals that typical games have. I think this is a good thing. The achievement that you earn is the ability to play guitar or bass. That’s all I’m looking for. If you bought the first edition of Rocksmith and did not like it very much (I didn’t like it), don’t let that prevent you from getting this. This is like another planet.Everyone is talking about Session Mode and I’m sure that will be a big selling point for people that already know how to play. For me, a beginning bassist, it’s nice to have the band backing, but randomly hitting notes when you have no real idea of what you are doing is cool but I’m sure once I get the hang of playing, this part of the game will be much more enjoyable. If you want to learn to play, get this. I am doing bass only but I am sure the guitar play works the same way. I am using the Lessons and here is how they are laid out:You first choose your instrument and click Lessons if you are a noob like me. The first couple show you how to hold the instrument and things like that. Then you start getting videos of different techniques and each of those lessons comes with a practice track. Here is where Rocksmith shines! Using the Riff Repeater feature, you can adjust the difficulty level from 0-100 using a slider: the lower the difficulty, the fewer notes that will scroll on by. If you start at say, 30, you can play that difficulty until you nail all of the notes and then move up to 4.
Great! I’ve been learning a lot. I’ve been playing acoustic guitar for about 10 years and have been pretty stagnant as far as growth. So i bought a cheap ass electric (bad idea which i replaced worth a mid tier Epiphone) and went to work. I’ve been overall very happy. There are some areas it could be better:The cable is a little too short to reach to my couch. No Led Zeppelin, you’ve got to be kidding me.I had to buy songs I could stand to play. Too many are the same stuff from Rockband.During Riff Repeater, the increases in difficulty can be too much at once sometimes.I’ve noticed that some riffs at 100% difficulty aren’t quite 100% accurate, but close enough to teach guitar.Sometimes the game crashes. There really isn’t an alternative to this, so this is as good as it gets. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to learn guitar, at the very least to supplement actual lessons.
Bought this to learn guitar. I’m learning guitar. After a few days I was playing riffs and chords and working on the basics of guitar. The progressive difficulty is great as it adapts to your playing level always pushing you to do better, but if you get lost it drops the difficulty to make it fun again. Great collection of songs. There’s an arcade where you use skills you learn on the guitar to play the game, fun and gets you more practice of the basics. I’m really impressed and extremely satisfied with this, sad I didn’t start sooner. Some people will get hung up on tuning the guitar,a good strategy for that is to tune the guitar to a group of songs you want to play, then play them. When you’re ready for a new group, tune it again. Tuning can be a pain especially on lower end guitars, but patience will take you far. Good luck and have fun.
If you want to learn how to play the electric guitar – this is what you want !!! It even teaches you how to hold the pick. We are a family of 4 (16 to 50 years old) who have never played a musical instrument before (well – I played the flute ions ago for one semester in school) and we can all play a song after less than a month – not even playing it everyday. If you don’t have an Xbox get the one for the PC/MAC – it may be better for people who travel alot – I will be buying it next. The Xbox version is great because it stays set-up so when you have just a few minutes (1/2 hr or so) you can easily get in some practice/learning time. In only a months time we have gone from owning zero guitars to owning four – so be prepared to love it !!!
Definitely seems more instructional that the original Rocksmith. It’s missing the "tour" mode but does have a continuous play option, as well as "session mode", which allows you to improvise along with bass/drums/etc. The game is much better once you figure out how to increase the difficulty of the songs manually (vs playing the super over-simplified versions over and over, slowly ‘leveling up’, which was frustrating). The tuning is overly touchy and tedious. It is also very difficult to play if you don’t have an alternative sound setup. If you are running directly through your television, the timing is going to be off, even with calibration.
I’ve been using this on and off for over a month and find it good for learning songs and chords. Seems to be good for all levels and has a lot of integrated games and drills. It has a wide variety of songs and a fairly large library, from classic to contemporary, of most genres. Uses videos and other visuals to teach. Progressively gets harder as you learn the songs, sometimes throwing in new chords in the middle a session. One negative is that few of the songs are familiar, but you can purchase more popular songs, of course. Also, it doesn’t really teach proper technique. The in-game tuner is cool, especially for key changes, but it’s not very accurate and although you go through the tuning process before every song, it often gives feedback that you are not hitting the notes correctly. If you or anyone in the room talks, voice commands cause a lot of game play issues, so I have disabled the Kinect. There’s a difference between playing songs on your guitar and being a guitar player. It’s fun to jam along with songs and learn some new ones, but not really a substitute for a good guitar teacher if the latter is what you really want. But it does provide a good platform to learn basics and have fun doing it.
I’ve wanted to learn guitar for a long time – took lessons a couple years ago, but couldn’t stick with it. Rocksmith has been a great way to motivate myself to play every day for at least an hour. And I do feel like I am learning a lot. The songs cover a good range from easy to harder, and there’s plenty to choose from. However, the program has a couple of holes that I’d love to see fixed 1) Biggest issue (and I can’t believe this isn’t front and center in most reviews!) is that the 60-day challenge that they advertise so much still doesn’t work. The website says "beta" and while I think they are capturing the data – statistics don’t work! So if you are thinking about this, be warned. I hope they will have it fixed for all those people that get this game for Christmas! 2) I wish the game did a little more to help with strumming patterns. As you progress, each song starts to put the strumming indicators in for the chord or note you are playing – but they don’t give you the "UDDUDU" sort of direction that is so helpful when you view how-to-play videos on YouTube. Putting an U/D arrow by the strum bar in the game would have help a newbie player like meBut I do enjoy the game, and feel like I am learning a lot. Just racking up the playing time helps with muscle memory on chords.
Wow..Let me start by saying, I am about to turn 52..still a woman that loves makeup, having my hair done and yet here I am waiting to get callouses on my left hand so I can play Rocksmith even better!Call it middle age crises or just dreaming of one day being called up to play lead guitar with Led Zeppelin..lol..But since I had never picked up an electric guitar and didn’t know the difference between a note and chord, I didn’t feel I would learn anything. I wanted to, but where would I start?Bought an electric guitar ( mini-Fender) and Rocksmith. My life changed! My life?.. yeah because who knew at my age I would be able to play Foo Fighter’s Everlong in one week!!??..Well I can and thanks to Rocksmith, I know my basic chords.I am so darn happy to have gotten this as an early birthday present to myself.Get it and thank you Ubisoft! Can’t wait for more expansion packs and more songs I can purchase. Money so well spent. Off I go to learn Radiohead’s Karma Police.
My husband, myself, and my two kids have been playing this game. We actually bought it at the recommendation of one of my husband’s friends. While this isn’t a good game for HIM (because he has been playing guitar for over 15 years and is more advanced than the game), it is a GREAT game for us. The three of us haven’t played guitar ever and this goes thru the basics and helps you learn while having fun. My son has been doing wonderfully with it. He has been learning without realizing he’s learning. We’ve only had it since January and he has already played all the songs and is going back thru and trying to up his mastery percentage. It also has arcade like games that you can play with the guitar that help you learn various lessons, such as sliding, the strings, bends, and chords. This games have been good for my husband too. I highly recommend this game for anyone wanting to learn or get better on guitar.
