I’ve been playing guitar for a long time. Off and on for 20+ years. Rocksmith holds my interest and keeps me playing regularly. I’ve purchased 3-4 copies of the game for new cables and to keep supporting the game. I’ve had the original RS1 game for the XB360, RS2014 for PC, and now RS2014 Remastered for XB1. There is noticeable audio lag on the consoles, even with analog speakers; however, it is very playable once you get used to it. I find that the PC version is much better in regards to audio lag issues. I play on the PC primarily. The cables work great for the game as well as with amp sim apps on the PC. DLC is plentiful and there is tons of stuff available, maybe even too much. Sometimes I spend more time deciding what to play than actually playing. The guitarcade games are okay, but a bit corny. The lessons are good to get beginners started. The multiplayer mode works well. I play with my son who has been learning guitar for a little while.
It was exactly what I expected
We had the old Xbox 360 version and decided many years later to pick this one up. It is amazing. Good song selections, plugs right into your electric guitar or bass, and does a great job of teaching you control of the instrument. It’s a bit advanced for me, but my sons (22 and 25) can do amazing things with it — and none of us know how to play guitar. It’s fun, the music is REAL, not some karaoke version, and it gets harder and more in-depth as you learn each song. There’s also a HUGE library of songs you can purchase for your system. I definitely recommend.
I like that I can learn my favorite songs plus try out different amps and gear at home before I go to guitar center. What I don’t like is that the timing is off a little no matter what you do and causes you to miss notes. Also would be cool if it had online multiplayer that way you could have real guitar battles.
I do enjoy playing it on the big screen vs trying to learn guitar on an iPad app instead, however, this isnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t something for a beginner trying to learn guitar. You truly already need to know your chords before playing this. (Other reviews point this out but I wanted to try it anyway…for the price it was worth it) Having said that, it does have great instruction for learning new techniques like Ć¢ā¬ÅbendingĆ¢ā¬Ā notes or Ć¢ā¬ÅslidingĆ¢ā¬Ā on the neck and the interactive portion of this instruction is pretty awesome. The other thing I found a little disappointing is the fact that for a beginner, they display the strings in Ć¢ā¬ÅcolorsĆ¢ā¬Ā instead of simply referring to them by name (High Ć¢ā¬ĖEĆ¢ā¬ā¢ etc…) so for a beginner, you have to train your brain to say Ć¢ā¬ÅOk, the Red string in the display is the Low EĆ¢ā¬Ā etc. For a visual learner, youĆ¢ā¬ā¢re having to translate on the fly instead of having the correct name of the string ingrained from day one. (This is something IĆ¢ā¬ā¢d recommend changing in future editions)Another thing I noticed is that the built in tuning seems pretty far off from what all my other tuners tell me is spot on. (Fender app, tuner built into my Orange app, and headstock electronic tuner…these all tell me IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m in tune but the game shows itĆ¢ā¬ā¢s off a bit) Still not a giant deal for a beginner because my ear canĆ¢ā¬ā¢t really tell the difference and it sounds good to me while IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m playing.Overall though itĆ¢ā¬ā¢s a pretty good way to learn some techniques and the interactive games you can play make your practi.
I own a lot of guitars that I do not know how to play (that is another story) so I finally found this game on sale during Black Friday and have always wanted to try this to motivate me to play and also finally use some of my many electric guitars sitting around. This game is fun! I had to choose which axe (old school name for a guitar) to use and fortunately I had many choices. Found one that was comfortable and the game helped me tune it and in about 20 minutes I was nailing a simple little chord song! Do not think this is a way to play like a pro in 5 minutes because that is not going to happen, but if you really want to learn to play, this is a fun and pretty in-depth way to do it. You can change your progression if you really want to stay at a certain level till it is ingrained in your muscle memory, which I am doing or move on according to how you do in the tutorial plays. Great graphics and sound as well! Plus, I needed something else to play since Destiny has got so boring.I am at the beginning, but will update as I progress. I paid $29 on sale and I would have bought it at $59 if I knew it was this good and fun. It does come with the needed cord, so you have everything you need if you have an electric guitar.
Although I have only had this for less than a week I can honestly say as a complete novice to playing guitar this has helped me out a lot in a little amount of time. This teaches u so much its worth it price in that alone nevermije the fact that u can rock out to some great songs. Yeah u will spend 2.99 for the songs u really want but it’s worth it to learn them. I love how u can adjust the amount of notes u play in each section of the song at your own pace until u get better and can strive to do it 100% I was worried about buying because of so many talking about lag issues and audio problems. There was lag going thru hdmi as the game informs u of within the manual in the case and recommends u to run a optical digital cable from your Xbox to your receiver or in my case 5.1 sound bar system. Did that and it works perfectly. No issues with audio whatsoever. Glad I took the risk as it’s paid off and will only pay dividends moving forward as I finally learn how to play guitar.
Helped me become acquainted with the guitar, but if you’re really planning on becoming the next Eddie Van Halen, you’ll need more than just this, but for the beginner the lessons will teach them a lot. I recommend it.
Bought this for my teenage son to help him learn to play bass. He likes the songs by Nirvana,Avenged Sevenfold, and others . He also likes how it shows you what strings and frets to play AKA tablature. Also liked that it’s not super advanced since he is a beginner. Good game if you want to learn bass or guitar. *If you buy this used make sure it comes with the proprietary cable to hook up to your guitar or bass to the xbox or other system.
Love it, never played guitar in my life before. Picked this up the day I got in my guitar, and started playing. After some short play (not every day, and not for hours and hours on end, very minimal in game practice) my comfort level has dramatically increased. 100% recommendation
