Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 2 is a 2019 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. A remake of the 1998 game Resident Evil 2, it was released for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One in January 2019. And for Amazon Luna, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in June 2022. Players control rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield as they attempt to escape Raccoon City during a viral outbreak that transforms the citizens into zombies and other creatures.
Capcom first considered remaking Resident Evil 2 following the release of the remake of the first Resident Evil in 2002. But was delayed as series creator Shinji Mikami did not want to divert development from the then-upcoming Resident Evil 4 (2005). Capcom announced the Resident Evil 2 remake in August 2015 and release the first trailer and gameplay footage at E3 2018.
Resident Evil 2 receive critical acclaim, with praise for its presentation, gameplay, and faithfulness to the original. It receive numerous accolades, including a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019. And winning Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2019. It has sold over ten million copies as of 2022, outselling the original Resident Evil 2. It was follow by another remake, Resident Evil 3, in 2020.
Gameplay
Resident Evil 2 is a remake of the 1998 game Resident Evil 2 for PlayStation. Unlike the original, which uses tank controls and fix camera angles. The remake features “over-the-shoulder” third-person shooter gameplay similar to Resident Evil 4 and more recent games in the series. That allows players the option to move while using their weapons similar to Resident Evil 6.
The assisted and standard difficulty modes deviate from the original by featuring autosaves. And allowing players to save as often as they would like inside safe rooms. If the player chooses to play on “Hardcore” difficulty, players will be require to collect. And use a finite number of ink ribbons to save the game’s progress, much like in the original game.
While exploring the police station, players can find and pick up items that can help them survive and escape. Certain items such as herbs and gun powder can be combine to make healing items and ammunition respectively. Items can also be inspect for clues gaining access to certain areas. Or items hidden throughout the game and can be discard after use.
Depend on difficulty
Overall combat varies depending on difficulty. Assisted difficulty allows aim assist and health recovery along with weaker enemies. While hardcore difficulty has stronger enemies and has scarce ammo for players to find. Combat will also vary depending on who players are fighting. Enemies will generally come after players after they spot. And can be kill or cripple to slow them down. Zombies will attempt to break into the station through windows but can be stop if the windows are board up beforehand. Certain enemies must be fought to progress through the game and cannot be avoid.
Although Leon and Claire will both start with handguns at the beginning of their scenarios. Each has different weapons that can be obtain throughout the game. Weapons can also be customize by finding and equipping gun parts that will improve their performance. Sub weapons like knives and grenades can also be found. And equip and use to attack and fend off enemies that grab onto the player.
Encounter with Tyrant
At certain points in each scenario, players will encounter the Tyrant, a Bio-Organic Weapon (B.O.W.) sent by Umbrella to eliminate all survivors in the police station. And will attempt to kill the player when encounter. The Tyrant cannot be kill, although weapons can stun or slow him down. While players can evade the Tyrant, he will constantly search throughout the station except for safe rooms and certain areas of the police station.
As with the 1998 game, the remake of Resident Evil 2 offers the option to play through the main campaign as either Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie police officer on his first day. Or Claire Redfield, a college student and sister of original protagonist Chris. Depending on the player’s choice, the main story will be experience with variations in subplots. Accessible areas, obtainable items, weapons, and the final boss battle.
Also like the original, both campaigns feature a supporting character. Who becomes playable for one section of the game. Players control the mysterious Ada Wong in Leon’s story, whose segment involves hacking electronic devices. And young girl Sherry Birkin in Claire’s story, whose segment centers around stealth.
2nd Run
Similar to the “Scenario B” feature of the original game, beating the main campaign for the first time unlocks the option to play through a “2nd Run” as the other protagonist. 2nd Run is a variation of the main campaign that adds additional content to frame the second playthrough as occurring concurrently with the first playthrough.
For example, the protagonist in 2nd Run will enter the police station from a different entrance and find several doors already unlock by the protagonist from the first playthrough. Completing 2nd Run is also require to experience the true ending of the main campaign. Selecting the “New Game” scenario for the selected character allows players to start with the default item loadout with items they had playing the game for the first time.
Remake
The remake brings back “The 4th Survivor” and “The Tofu Survivor” minigames present in the 1998 original. Which are unlock after completing the 2nd Run mode. “The 4th Survivor” follows Umbrella Corporation operative Hunk and requires players to travel from the sewers to the outside of the police department. While facing a large number of enemies.
“The Tofu Survivor” features the same scenario. But replaces Hunk with an anthropomorphic tofu arm only with knives. The remake’s version of “The Tofu Survivor” also adds the unlockable characters Konjac, UirÅ-Mochi, Flan, and Annin Tofu, who all have a unique item loadout.

I’ve owned the PSX for nearly twenty years now along with the first three Resident Evil games for it. I recently decided to pick up RE:2, RE:3, and RE:CVX for the GameCube to play on my Wii since I use this system the most to play vintage games and stream Netflix shows and movies. After reading some of the reviews here before buying them, I’ve got to say WOW! Epic fail. The amount of ignorance people have been spewing out about these reissues is simply mind boggling.First of all, this game is indeed a port, but not a “direct” port. The first major difference you’ll notice is that all the games scenarios are contained on one disc instead of two. Second, saving the game only eats up a measly 8k (one block) on your memory card. Third, the frame rate is much faster, going at 60fps. The PSX version feels like it’s running at twice a slower frame rate by comparison. Last but not least, the graphic resolution is significantly higher. Everything is very sharp and crisp, whereas the PSX version is blurry and pixelated. I’ve also played the PC, Nintendo 64 and Dreastcast versions and the GameCube one beats all three visually hands down.So while you are not getting “remade” graphics like the 2002 GameCube version of the first RE, you are indeed getting sharper, cleaned up visuals and smooth frame rates. The best way to explain this is by downloading any of the Wii’s N64 Virtual Console games and comparing them to the originals. While they are technically ports, there’s a big difference in the graphic presentation.
fast shipment. great gift. rare
Arrived on time, and the disk is in great condition. Would have been nice to know that it wouldn’t come with it’s original case or instructions though. This seems to be a recurring theme with gamecube games. Buyers beware…

Hey this game is definitely a must have.. I know it came out for a limited time for the gamecube.. or I’d say.. they took it off the market because it wasn’t worthy to pay $39.99 for a game with same graphics as the PS1 or N64… so.. think you ambitious people.. if people didn’t want to pay $39.99 for the brand new videogame.. who on earth is going to pay $99.99 for a used one and $200 for a new one?? I hope nobody does.. you are totally taking advantage of the situation! YOU PEOPLE BUY A PS1 or a N64 with the game for less than $50.. the graphics are the same…no difference..

This was the first RE game I ever played, and from the moment I started it I loved it. The graphics looked excellent back in 1998, and while not as good now, it does not take away from how great this game is. You start out as Leon or Claire, the sister of Chris Redfield from RE1, and you have to fight your through to the police station for safety, but instead of being saved, it gets worse. There are many twists and turns that appear in the game, but it is a very fun game, and one I personally have beatman 57 times thus far. I highly recommend it for any RE fan, but chances are, you have played it by now.On another note, this game was ported over to the GameCube, but for a rip off price of $40. It just gets worse from there because I was not willing to pay $40 for it, and now people are trying to rip everyone off by selling it for $130, $140, etc. Anything above $30 is a rip off when you can get a PS1 version for $6 at your local GameStop. I don’t know what gives sellers the right to price a game, A GAME, that high. This isn’t ebay. If you want that price, put it up on auction and let it go that high if people want to get ripped off.

This is a good game. It is very scary and puzzling in all ways. This game is great! You have to buy this game for your collection RE fans!!
Not quite up to par with the REmake but RE2 is definately one of the best RE games you can get out there. Lets break down the game into some basic aspects. Horror: 4/5. Not as much as REmake, but it had its fair share of scary moments. If your buying the game for the horror aspect you may be a little disapointed cause like I said, there arent many. However I believe the Scariest Moment in the RE series happens in this game. Gameplay: 5/5. Great, New, Orignal puzzles that will provide 5-7 hours of fun for the RE n00b, 3-5 for an expert Resident Evil Person. Not lenthy but definately worth a look. Price: 3/5. Very rare game to find, hence to 35.00 for a 2-3 year old game. Is it worth the 35? If you have the orignal version, NO. If you dont have the orignal, buy this. Replay: 6/5. Yes thats a 6 for a reason. This game has 4 different storylines with the same “game” but differnet puzzles and bosses. Also after you beat the game, you can play the mini games or keep going for that A rank. Overall: 5/5. Buy this game if your looking for a RE experience. This game fits into the RE series beatifulaly and is a key part to the RE series! Buy this Game!

Its a classic. Resident Evil 2 took what the original Resident Evil had and expanded it four times and made it a ton better. This is one of my all-time favorite games. I love the storyline and characters presented in this game (and series). This one is even more creepy. It actually made me drop my controller from being startled at one point. I recommend this to any RE, horror or video game fan.
I’d give it less than 2 stars, but it’s not the sellers fault that the graphics suck! I’m not into old games, but my husband is, and he loved it! No scratches, skipping, waterspots, or anything wrong, case was still in great condition, and even came with the manual.
Definitely my favorite RE from the original trilogy. (Aside from the near fighting controls in RE3) I’m glad i found this port online! I bought the original playstation 1 dualshock version and… Let me tell you… I played the ps1 version on my ps3 with hdmi settings on my Sharp tv, and compared the experience with the GC version on my wii with just composite cables, and they definitely upped the pixel rate on the GC version! Wow, it was like day and night. So if you just want the best experience of RE2, then get the port to the gamecube! The only reason why i have both is because i’m a hardcore fan and have all resident evils. (Aside from PAL versions of the older ones, and Gaiden… Oh Resident Evil: Gaiden, how you haunt my very dreams with your….. shitiness… [FacePalm]
