Ok, so actually PAC-MAN and his wife might actually share that honor with Donkey KONG, RADAR SCOPE and countless others…Bad analogy aside, this EARLY Playstation game flawlessly emulates Raiden and Raiden 2, the immortal Seibu Kaibahatsu (Dear God, I hope I didn’t butcher that name) vertically oriented games from the glory days of Shmups. There is an option, just like in the Namco Museums, to flip the game on it’s side, so you can do the same with your TV/Monitor. (PLEASE DO THIS SAFELY)Fun for the whole familyPlays on Playstation 1-3
These games are preserved exactly as I remember them. Great fun, high difficulty. The game provides custom button mapping, adjustable aspect ratios, and changeable credit amounts. If you are a fan of the Raiden series, this is a must-have.
The game got here on time. The game is just how I remember it
Raiden is without a doubt one of the greatest quarter-munchers of all time. To this day I still see it (or some version of it)in movie theaters and video arcades. Here we have not one, but TWO Raiden games. It’s worth buying Raiden Project just for Raiden 2.The first Raiden game is pretty darn old, and it shows. I know people who love this game, and relish being able to play it in all it’s old-school glory. But for me, Raiden 2 is the game to beat…From the second you pop this disc into your station you will hear great music. So great, in fact, that I sometimes will leave the game at the start menu just to listen to the awesome music repeat over and over. But it only gets better from there, as Raiden 2 has one of the greatest soundtracks of any shooter ever. Call me crazy, but I think a huge part of what makes Raiden 2 such a classic is the fantastic music. Well, that and the graphics…and the weapons. The graphics are old-school (looking like something released on SNES), but don’t let that fool you. The graphics may be all sprites, but they are some of the finest sprite-based graphics you will ever see. The explosions, the ships, and even the cows grazing in the fields feature wonderful amount of detail (okay, maybe the cows don’t). And don’t get me started on the AWESOME polygonal asteroids in the space levels. The gameplay of Raiden 2 is classic in every sense of the word. You have a lone ship against an ARMADA of aline vessels, and you will fight boss after boss across th.
Though graphics get better, systems get more powerful, and game development continues to evolve, some of the oldies still remain some of the best.Project Raiden (Raiden 1 & 2) remains one of the most fun, engaging, and challenging shooters of all time. While it’s hard to match all the nifty graphics of new systems and games, it’s still hard to find the pure gameplay and fun of many older games like this, and its not just nostalgia speaking here. ;)If you have a PS1, you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy, IF flying shooters are your kind of game.
This was a PS1 game that I had owned in my younger years, though I was rather dumb back then and ended up giving away my entire PS1 collection without a care in the world. Needless to say, this will forever haunt me every day of my life.Luckily I was able to secure another copy from Boomerang Media, and I have to say the item came in as described, and it was in great condition. However, there was one flaw in the packaging in which I had to take off a star from, as there was a price label sticker on the jewel case itself, presumably from Boomerang’s own pricing schema.Unfortunately, removing the price sticker left some rather noticeable residue on the jewel case itself, and that was quite a bummer, especially considering this item was listed as being ideal for a collector, and this kind of thing is very much frowned upon in the collector’s community. It’s not the end of the world, and I am certainly glad to have this amazing collection of ‘Raiden’ and ‘Raiden II’ back in my collection, although I can only hope that Boomerang uses a better kind of sticker material in the future, and especially one that leaves as little residue as possible.Other than that, pricing was very fair, and the item shipped out in a good enough time – also, kudos to the overall packaging, as the item was packed in a generous amount of bubble wrap, and the shipping package itself was a good enough size to house the game itself without being loose enough to possibly damage it during shipment. Good job over.
Bought this game for my boyfriend, it was one of his childhood favorites. He loved it! I actually really enjoy it as well!
The early Raiden series is very “pure” as a shmup, in that it’s all about the shooting and dodging, without the added learning curve of complex scoring mechanics. Just shoot stuff, dodge bullets, and grab medals. On this disc, we get Raiden 1 and 2. These are both fun, however I do find Raiden 2 a bit better due to the extra weapon variety and destruction animations. These are great “have some beers with a bud and blow stuff up” games. Make sure you smack him every time he grabs your powerups. The aforementioned destruction is extreme. Shoot down even the smallest enemy, and it will crash into a forest, leveling some trees and sending shrapnel everywhere. With lots of enemies attacking at once, the on-screen carnage is a symphony of destruction. The only downside to this disc is the lack of true tate mode. You can rotate the screen, however the controls do no rotate with it. There is a gameshark code to get around this limitation, so if you plan on using a rotated display look that up.If you like Raiden 2 and want something with deeper scoring mechanics, I also suggest checking out Raiden DX.
I remember back in the day when I could spend many dollars in the arcade playing this one. It’s a great game to just play anytime. Good boredom-killer! Not glitchy or too many slow-downs during play.
At first I thought it would not work on my PS3 but I kept trying playing options and it played. I remember playing this game all the time in high school on lunch break.
