The cartridge is in great shape and plays well!
Quake 64 is a really weird port. It’s missing some of the best levels from the base game. There’s no Grisly Grotto, specifically, which means there’s no secret exit to the Well of Wishes, which means the Dopefish secret is straight up gone. The difficulty and episode selection hub that is somewhat synonymous with the game is also gone. You pick your difficulty from a menu, and the game drops you into E1M1. Progression is entirely linear, from one level straight into the next.Control wise, well, it’s an FPS on the N64. The defaults are atrocious, but thankfully you are able to set everything to anything you want. I was able to find a comfortable scheme after about 5 minutes of playing around with it. Some of the possible things you can bind are, well, questionable. Having the ability to hold a button and replace movement on the stick with aiming isn’t great for a game like this. Splitting vertical aiming and horizontal aiming between the c buttons and the stick, and movement the same way, worked out the best for me, with reset view on dpad down, and jump on R. Switch weapons on A and B.One of the concerns is the frame rate, and it is an issue at times. Single player mostly does fine, though I was playing with the expansion pack. When my friend and I went to multiplayer, things changed. We used The Dark Zone, Q1DM6, aka "The Map", and had frame dips down to what felt like 12 fps rather frequently. The status bar is moved from the bottom of the screen to the side in an ug.

I remember, years ago, going to the video store to rent a game and asking the attendant there if they knew of a game I could play that was somewhat like Resident Evil that was dark and scary. He asked if I had a Nintendo 64. I replied that I did. So, he pulls the Quake box from the wall and hands it to me. I take a look at it and read the back of the box and, politely, tell him I wasn’t into FPS games. He tells me that he wasn’t into them either til he played the game himself. Still not convinced, I told him I’d think about it. He makes me a deal and says, if I rent it and don’t like it, he’ll give me my money back on the rental. So, I take him up on the offer and take the game home. Needless to say, after playing the game, not only did I NOT take back the game but I kept it for a total of two weeks. However, playing the game caused my stomach to tighten and hurt cause I was tensed up from playing the game. It was, then, I decided to purchase the game and I’m glad that I did.For that person who’s never played Quake before, the object of the game is to make it through the game alive while killing and eliminating as many enemies as you can. Players wage battle through 25 levels, acquiring keys to unlock doors to progress through the game. There are no objectives except to kill everything in sight and make it to the next level. If you’ve ever played the PC version of the game, you probably won’t be shocked with the changes made with the Nintendo 64 port of the game. All the leve.
Quake for the N64 rocks the graphics are a little dark comparded to the pc cause you have the brightness thing on the pc version. The N64 version is hard to control cause how the controller is shaped and how they sets the controls out in the options menue which you could adjust to your likeing. Best way to play this is with the DPAD and the C-DPAD set the controls to that it’s easier to play it like that. This game is great the whole series is great i would recommend it this game is WORTH IT!!!!!
Quake is a fast-paced, first person combat game that combines an improved Doom-style system and monsters with unimproved Doom-style weapons and storyline.Four "dimensions," or game sections, each divided into five to eight levels, comprise the world of Quake. These sections, "Dimension of the Doomed," "Realm of Black Magic," "Netherworld," and "The Elder World," are dungeon-like settings infested with a wide variety of monsters, traps, secret areas, and hazards. Players must locate keys, typically two per level, in order to progress to the finish. No "action" button(e.g., the space bar in most Doom-style games) is required to open doors or push buttons; such feature are automatically activated when the character is in proximity. Looking and shooting in all directions, including up and down, and swimming are some of the improvements upon the Doom-style system.A unique interface at the start of a new game allows a player to select different hallways for "Easy," "Medium," "Hard," or "Nightmare" difficulty levels (although the entrance to the latter is actually hidden, so people don’t wander into it accidentally). Once difficulty level is selected, the player can enter any of the dimensions. While it is recommended that the dimensions be played through in order, this sort of interface essentially allows players to switch difficulty level in between levels, if desired.Characters sta.
personally i think this the best verison of quake you could play i like this way better than the PC version etc. the n64 hardware makes the atmosphere of the game even darker and evil feeling. love the controlls too for it never been a fan of PC controlls such a good game a must have if you have a n64
I always loved this game! It’s a big part of my childhood! The only faults I did find with this game is the sensitivity can not be turned down and you die EXTREMELY easy. But still a fun 64 game :)
My husband loves it. It reminds him of his youth.
great game and it works perfectly. Thank you
