I’ve had this sitting on my shelf for some years but was too busy to have originally played it. It was fun to play but it didn’t seem long enough for my taste. Maybe I’m just spoiled a little by playing it later than when it had came out and games have gotten longer over time. BUt that’s why I can’t give it a 5.
One of the best FPS for PS One. Great graphics with a surround sound option. Comtrols leave a bit to be desired as far as customization goes. Not much for scares or surprizes and still mildly inferior to the legendary original.Highly recommended to anyone who still plays the old PS.Great shipping and condition of product.
I went through my old Video games, weeding out those destined for trade in at Bookman’s. I saw this one and remembered liking it, so I threw it back in and played it through. I forgot how much fun this game was and highly recommend a re-try to those FPS freak out there. I mean, you can get this game dirt cheap now, and it is a total blast!!!My only beef is, you have to play it through in order to use the cheat available and many of us play a game once and that’s it.Other than that, not a single complaint. This game freaking rocks! Tons of different monsters/foes, tons of cool weapons, level upon level of varying backgrounds. Too me back to the old days of all the Doom games. So, if you’re feeling nostalgic and want to play an FSP that doesn’t require you to evolve three extra fingers on each hand, dig this one back up or buy it dirt cheap here on retrolio. You won’t regret it.
A decade later and I still love this game. Check the gameplay videos on youtube.
Yes, Quake II, the game PC owners have been enjoying for a long time, has finally made it to the PlayStation. Being a fan of PC first-person shooters, I was less than excited. I mean, I’ve already played the single-player to death on the PC, and multiplayer FPS games on a console are usually quite pathetic. The N64 version was pretty good, provided that you could look past the flaws that most fans of the PC version would notice in the first 20 seconds. The PlayStation version has many of these same flaws, but given the PlayStation’s rapidly aging hardware, it’s easier to overlook these flaws. While you may not remain interested in the single-player mission to see it to its completion, the four-player multiplayer in Quake II will make you glad you had picked up a multitap and three extra Dual Shocks. The storyline is your typical hostile alien sort of thing. You, as a space marine, land on the planet of Stroggos with the intention of blowing up everything in sight. Unfortunately, you get separated from the rest of the marines and are forced to go it alone. So now you must run all over this planet, collecting keys, opening doors, taking elevators, and wiping out various alien monsters before they tear you in half. To wipe out these aliens, you’ll have to find weapons – your wimpy default blaster simply won’t cut it. You’ll find a couple shotguns, two types of machine guns, a grenade launcher, a rocket launcher, and two types of energy weapons – one of which is the almighty BFG,.
This is a review for the Playstation version of Quake II.Quake was a very popular and influential first-person shooter series on the PC, and I’m happy to report that everything you love about the series there has remained almost exactly the same on the Playstation console.I can’t help but compare Quake II to Medal of Honor because MoH was the very first first-person shooter I ever owned. The controls in Quake II are almost exactly the same, except in Quake II, the L1 and R1 buttons on the Playstation controller are used to move your target up and down. The target is the little white thing that permanently stays in the middle of the screen. It’s used to line up the perfect kill shot. Learning to use this target properly will probably take about a half hour because, to be totally honest with you, it’s not exactly the easiest way to find and eliminate enemies. If you think this control system is a bit strange, I won’t disagree. You’ll learn to adjust to it, though. Give the game time to sink in.First let me mention that, despite what people might say, you CAN in fact use a regular old Playstation controller for this game. That’s what I’m using right now, in fact. I don’t care about all these Dual Shock and Analog controllers that are supposed to make the gaming experience superior because the reality is that a regular controller works just fine. Sorry, but using a directional pad to play first-person shooters is MUCH easier for me. I need to hit the “Up” button to wal.
Now i never played the original quake and i was a bit skeptical when i got my hands on this one but, i was given a revelation that i would so soon not forget. This game is the classic shooter where it felt like the original doom and wolfenstien. I was reminded that if you have fun with a game it shouldn’t matter if it looks fun or sounds great. The was a gift as well but im glad i got to play this one with my fiancee’. She nearly kicked my butt at all the vs’ matches we played but we both had fun so in the end great buy.
This game packs lots of action and a great soundtrack. It is great port of the PC game but the levels are not quite the same. As one who has played Quake ports or pretty much every available hardware (N64, PSX, PC, PocketPC, Symbian OS, Apple iOS, Windows Mobile etc) this game is invaluable.
The single player isn’t so great but if you’ve got access to 4 controllers with duel shock support I highly recommend getting this game and playing a few death match rounds with your buddies
Quake 2 was one of the greatest games of all time made by the all too famous ID Software. But when people heard of it being ported to the N64 and PlayStation, they were a little suspicious in what the final product would look like.Graphics are AMAZING for the PlayStation, probably the best on that platform. Great framerate and detailed environments paired with great 3D models and animations can’t get any better. Great lighting and realistic weaponry adds to the quality and show you that anything is possible, even a great looking Quake 2 port.Sound in this game rock. Literally! With in my opinion the absolute best video game music ever, it just makes the super great game even better. Great sound effects like powerful shotguns, pulsing pulse lasers, and of course, the BFG 10-K. Best sounds in any PlayStation game too date.Controls in this game, well, are hit and miss, sadly. While the dual shock controller and mouse are the absolute best, the regular, non dual shock controller falls short. Turning is awkward, shooting is weird, well, you get the idea. But for those of you with a dual shock controller, your in for a nice treat. For those with a dual shock controller AND mouse, your in for a hell of a ride. Finally the gameplay. Not much to say, I mean its QUAKE 2! Single player is near flawless, although it can have slowdown when a lot of explosions and enemies are on screen. The real beef though, is the multi player. With support with multi tap, you can have up to 4 players with.
