Turn based game that is very addictive. Be warned that there are visual glitches but I believe that it does not take away from the game.
The original was my favorite game, I kept DosBox in my PC so I can still play this 18 years old game. The latest remade didn’t disappoint. I had PS3 version, and I would say it is perfectly done with the latest technology, and still keep the most playability of the original. The only thing I miss from the original is the ability to do base defense. I am now onto my third play through, it froze only once and required restarting and reloading a previous save. So not as buggy as some of the reviews.
Was exactly what I expected.
I only had a little bit of experience with the original XCom PC game from the 90’s. I remember not liking it, but I also remember not knowing the intricacies of the game nor the strategic benefits of a turn based system. Now that I am older and wiser I walk into this re-imaging of XCOM with excitement and anticipation. For the most part I wasn’t disappointed. The game play is wonderful, the mechanics are challenging and the story makes me feel like I am taking part in updated episodes of the Gerry Anderson sci-fi classic U.F.O. on television.XCOM is a turn based squad tactical game that also has elements of an RPG when you are outfitting and upgrading your troops and weapons. There is also a bit of SIM City as you build your headquarters. Lots of different gaming elements that really gel together if you ask me. Your squad is deployed in missions, which earn you money and other bonuses. The money is used to either upgrade your troops or expand and upgrade your base of operations (which in turn gives you various upgrades). As your troops successfully complete missions they gain experience that upgrades them to higher ranks (which gives you a chance to upgrade their skills). From time to time you get to capture alien corpses or technology for study (which then gives you yet another chance to upgrade to cooler weapons and defenses). As you can see the game gives a lot of options.Your soldiers come in four different classes. Assault class for close attacks and quick deployment. He.
This original title fills the RPG/turn-based combat hole that the PS3 had at the time of release. You control Earth’s last hope against the alien invasion whom are currently destroying your planet. Soldiers are geared up with equipment you pick and sent to battles of your choosing. Between missions, you return to the XCOM base and can build additional rooms. This provides various functions, such as one room doing research for new weapons and armor while another section provides power and electricity to keep your base running.LIKES+Building your base and solider promotions add a sense of progression+The story holds your interest, especially for Sci-fi fans+Different solider classes adds some variety in rolesDISLIKES-Luck. It’s unavoidable in most turn-based combat and this is no different. Between enemy AI, the cover mechanics and shooting percentages, the game can frustrate you at times with extremely bad luck-Drags on in some areas. Occasionally the story drags on, providing a few filler missions to lengthen the game (not necessarily bad for some players)-Enemies are active only when you spot them. Some maps have you clear out every enemy. For wide-open locations, you’ll have to search every corner to spot the AI. They don’t often move toward you without being seen first. The exceptions are a few missions and it may of been patchedBOTTOM LINEThe games minor flaws aren’t an issue if you enjoy Sci-fi and turn-based combat. Without spoiling the story, the later missions definit.
A beautiful strategy alien game. It’s like command and conquer but you play with soldiers against aliens by turns. Graphics are good and a lot of hours of playing.
I don’t know why, but I love these stragety games. I just wish there was a little more to them.
Purchased: October 20122Usage: A couple hours per week (PS3)Pros: Many other original great aspects of the original game with a clean user interface for game consoles. X-Com is a turn based strategic game. There is resource management at the base level screen and tactical management in the battlescape.Cons: None if you like strategic games.
Played it all the way through, enjoyed it. Not as much as I liked the original "back in the day" when you had more freedom it seems.
Great game for anyone who loves turn-based strategy and base-planning. Think Warcraft mixed with Risk and you’re getting close. Recommended.
