If you are a fan of either the Professor Layton or Ace Attorney series, then you’re definitely going to want to play this; the entire game is an absolute delight. It successfully blends both the puzzles that make up the Layton games with the courtroom drama that defines Ace Attorney. The game also features a fun, brand new mechanic to the courtroom segments as customary to AA games: multiple witnesses on the stand. Everything, from the gameplay, to the dialogue, to the story and visuals, is fantastic. If you are especially in love with the Layton series, then you might also want to pick this up, as it might be the last game to feature the puzzle loving Professor.
I’ve played both Layton games and Phoenix Wright games. I’m an avid fan of the Phoenix Wright games and have every single one, but I’m not a huge fan of Layton (puzzlers aren’t a huge thing for me.) The story is hugely fun and I can confidently say without invoking any spoilers that anyone who knows Princess Tutu will be thinking about it throughout the game. I enjoyed it a lot and couldn’t put it down all weekend. My 3DS registered 17+ hours played to clear the game (I wasn’t in a hurry and took my time exploring the game world as I went) but as I loaded a saved game once or twice I’m sure I’ve played over 20 hours so far now.I am happy to say that the puzzles did not detract hugely from the Phoenix Wright trial experience, and I really enjoyed the new multiple-witness game mechanic as well as the witness-testimony-contradiction game mechanic–finally, game mechanics that aren’t based on silly things like “Observe”, Psyche-Locks, or the Mood Matrix! It does seem to me that the Phoenix Wright games are getting easier, and I do believe the Layton puzzles are a lot easier than the ones I did way back when I first played Professor Layton and the Curious Village. The hints were only needed very occasionally, and often I’d use them just to check and make sure my solution was correct before clicking submit (so I wouldn’t lose picarats) or before key sequences in cross-examination (so I wouldn’t lose credibility, which affects the picarats you get at the end of the trial.)I ha.
It came exactly as described. I am extremely happy with this purchase and would recommend to others.
This combination of two distinctly different, beloved franchises takes an archeology professor, a lawyer, witches, and shakes liberally until thoroughly mixed.WaitĆ¢ā¬Ā¦ witches?! O_oĆ¢ā¬Ā¦ok sure why not. ItĆ¢ā¬ā¢s not like a fantasy setting can really make Phoenix WrightĆ¢ā¬ā¢s adventures much stranger. Ć°ÅøĖā°The prologues set up things well, with related events separately running afoul of Professor Hershel Layton and Phoenix Wright. These segments serve to establish the gist of each characterĆ¢ā¬ā¢s gameplay elements as well as the central characters. In an interesting choice the art style from each separate game is kept for its characters. The mix is a little weird at first, but I got used to it quickly and it was probably a better approach than trying to force one set of iconic characters into the other worldĆ¢ā¬ā¢s style. Also, the backgrounds tie it all together pretty well.Similar to the mixing of art styles is the mix of going back and forth between the disparate gameplay mechanics. I found it jarring at first and a bit forced as during the first half of the game it was basically switching each chapter. But it ended up melding together much more naturally and seamlessly by the end. While IĆ¢ā¬ā¢ve played and enjoyed both series, IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m traditionally more of a fan of the Phoenix Wright games. Yet here the Professor Layton elements were perhaps just a touch better, likely due to fitting the story more naturally. The trials were a bit contrived, and some of the constructions and limitations implemented to extend.
looking forward to using it.
Perfect blend of both games
Best game ever. After retrolio sent the game to me via mail (when it became available), I just finished it and I was not disappointed. So many twists and turns that the Ace Attorney and Professor Layton series’ had to offer never culminated into such a huge masterpiece.
it is going to be a gift
Love this game! It was an amazing story, and it definitely introduced me to both game series. Me, being a first time player to both of these titles, the crossover atmosphere made me want to buy more Professor Layton games!
grandson picked it out. love it
