Wonderful conclusion to Clarke’s RAMMA. Almost as intriguing a conclusion as there could be.
One of the most thought provoking and well developed books I have ever read. Clarke, through his characters, discusses and shows examples of the biggest philosophical questions of humanity, while also illustrating how little we actually know about the universe and how isolated we actually are. Amazing.
Beautiful sad ending to this Trilogy. Human nature as seen in book 2 goes to that dark place and just gets worse in book 3. It is is the 2nd time I’ve read these books. What struck me this time is the failure of leaders of the human colony to put down the convict that took control. Richards failure to head his own words to the Octos leads to h and the Octo friends death. His wife’s premonition foretold it and she didn’t stop him. I found this to be the Authors attempt to drive the story in a way that shows humans at their worst and he continued it to the end essentially man cannot get along with those that are different he wrote this in late 80s were better than this.
the amount of creative energy involved in writing this book is amazing. one thought provoking idea after another. and what is great about the Clark books is that he tackles the really big questions that everyone wants to know. God and science all wrapped up together. this book will leave you with more questions than when you started. maybe the meaning of life really is loving and learning.
I really don’t know why the negative reviews. This book neatly concluded the Rama series of why they came and who they are. It dealt with religion, physics, astronomy, in stellar travel, rise and fall of civilisations and yes even "42": nice one!!!And the description of the alien octospider civilisation through Gentry’s eyes was enthralling.Get all of the books, you won’t be disappointed.
Rama is a wonderful series, 4 books I read without blinking. I bought this to make a gift to someane I really like.
This entire series, culminating in this beautifully crafted expression of summary and conclusion, pulls the reader through a classic science-fiction story that includes the best of what I have found in 40 years of reading. Consistently in a human scale, it addresses the vastness of the universe across a span of the millennia.
I love the character development and closure this book brings. It’s sad and uplifting all at the same time, the commentary on humanity is a little stereotypical now but still engrossing. Hard to put down and definitely a reread.
I enjoy reading the book how all through thee people working together to try to keep the families together and how living on a space craft.
No thanks
