The Genesis Model 2 system is excellent. I had honestly never seen one in real life until I got mine. I had only seen Model 1 Genesis before I received this in the mail. I plugged it in to my TV and played games I had wanted to play since my childhood. I never had a Genesis as a kid, yet I always wanted one. The controller is excellent, the build quailty of the console itself is great, the whole thing is just great. There’s no wonder that it’s their most well known console. It’s absolutely excellent, and I’ve spent quite a few hours playing this beauty. Would I recommend it over a Model 1? It depends on you. Personally, I like the look of this console more than a model 1. To me, the model 1 is like an Alienware, and the model 2 is like a Lenovo ThinkPad. Both look nice, but in different ways. To me having an all black finish on anything is beautiful, so I had to get this one. I’ve read that the model 1 has better sound, but to me the sound is fine on my model 2. If you are considering purchasing a Sega Genesis Model 2, do it. You won’t regret it.
The Sega Genesis is a must for any fan of video games. Forget about emulation. You want real hardware, official controllers, and a massive CRT screen to play retro games like they should be played. Even if you only want a few games, this is the way to do it. But, there are more than a few excellent games for this system. If you are reading this, then you probably know all about it and are wasting time. Just buy it. Get one that is in at least "very good" condition, snag a handful of games (Phantasy Star 4, Shadowrun, Sonic 2, and Golden Axe would be my suggestions…) and experience the 16-bit glory that is the Sega Genesis. (One caveat is that the controller cables are rather short for most living rooms. So, unless you plan on sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of the TV a controller extension cord might be a good get too.)Emulation sucks. You can only get the authentic experience with authentic hardware. Not to mention the sense of ownership and the joy of collecting that comes with owning the real thing.
Great condition. The game it came with was worn and not something I would play "football game" but I purchased for the system not the game! Happy with that.
The Sega genesis is a legend. If you don’t believe me then why after almost 20 years are its games showing up on multiple consoles such as the XBOX 360 and PS3? This console saw some of the best days of 2D and the earliest days of 3D gaming. The Genesis core system 1 was the first to be released under the name and it was able to play old Sega Master System games, the first home console with backwards compatibility. The core system 2 had a sleeker design and stereo sound unlike the core 1 which had only mono. Both core 1 and 2 had ports of the Sega CD add on. The last core, the core 3, was a cheaper version. To lower prices on it the port for Sega CD was removed on it and the manufacturing was somewhat below par. In my eyes the Sega Genesis Core 2 is the better choice as it is stereo and supports Sega CD. If however you want to play Genesis and Master System games then a Core 1 is your only option.
I’ve been a life long Nintendo gamer ever since the NES was released. For me, it was always aboutNintendo and nothing else. But I was always aware of the Sega Genesis and their motto, "Sega does whatNintendon’t". Sega does not censor their games. Take the awesome Genesis game "Castlevania-Bloodlines"for example. On the title screen, red blood drips down and there’s red blood and gore in the game.None of Nintendo’s Castlevania games show any red blood, it’s all green colored. The NES and SNES consoleswere made for kids. The Genesis consoles 1-3 were made for older people. This is one of the reasons I boughta Sega Genesis Core System 2 from JJgamesguy on retrolio for under $33 dollars! I got the console, av cord, power cord, and they even included an extra Genesis controller, how cool is that? This is the 1st time that I ever owned a Sega Genesis-2, there was a PS2 Sega Genesis disc of variousGenesis games that I bought 10yrs ago and still have it. Some of the games on that disc are good games andsome of them I don’t care for. That was my only experience with Genesis for awhile. I have to admit, it wasCastlevania-Bloodlines for the Genesis that convinced me to buy a Genesis 2 console. The Genesis controllers are very well made, tough, and built to last. The Genesis model 2 design is a lotsmaller than the Genesis model 1 and it fit’s right next to my N64, lol. The sound & graphics are amazingeven for a 16 bit system. I plan on buying more Genesis games in the future,.
the system is great if you get a good one, if your a collector of orginal sega equipment read all of the shops notes before ordering and look for tested and guaranteed to work. if you just want to play old sega cartridges you may consider the at games retro with 80 or 100 games built in get a pair of orginal sega controlers and you will have less issues. they will play most or all of the old cartridges.
My girlfriend loved this console, so it’s a win for me!
My console came with everything I needed. It shipped fast & was secured. It was also scrubbed clean. It really looks/ runs like it’s brand new.The Genesis was my console growing up. I played lots of Sonic & Jurassic park rampage edt. Me & my bro & sis all played it, and had a blast. The game I got to initiate it was Sonic 2 (you have to try it at least once) the Genesis really is a simple console. Before game quality was how realistic you can blow people’s heads off, it was about how much fun you could have. The bit-crushed techno & rock music, the repetitive, yet rewarding game levels, the simple 3 (or 6) button controller, the timeless titles (Sonic, Aladin, Jurassic park, mortal combat… Shaq-fu) all mean one thing for the player. A simple to start, hard to quit game session. Isn’t that why we really play video games?
Works great! I have a model 1 & model 2 Sega genesis, the model 1 will always have a special place in my heart but The model 2 makes a great addition expecially if space is an issue and looks good with its compact design but more importantly it’s still plays all the same games as the model 1.
This was the first gaming system my parents bought me, so it’s a great feeling to finally get it again. So many great memories. Overall great deal on it. Nothing to complain about, everything was as described.
