Just as described.
Ontamarama is a really fun and fast placed rhythm game. It can be super challenging at times as you need to use both the stylus and buttons to get the music notes. The characters are all really cute and the music is pretty good. All the songs were written for the game though so it’s not like Guitar Hero where you play popular songs, however most songs are pretty catchy and match the character/stage. The story line is a bit lack luster but I was not expecting it to be great as it’s a rhythm game. My main complaint is how short the game is though. There’s only 10 or so stages and few extra songs you can unlock to play so as far as content there’s not as much as I would have hoped. The most challenging level is however almost impossible so that can increase play time quite a bit.
This is an awesome rhythm game and well worth the money. On easy mode, the difficulty progresses at a reasonable rate. Normal mode is more challenging, … and then there’s hard mode. In free play (after completing the story and unlocking the levels), I have mastered most of the levels in easy mode, some of the levels in normal mode, and none to date in hard mode. I have been playing for several weeks and this game is definitely a permanent part of my DS game collection. To play you use the touch screen as well as the controls. A song played with all “masters” and “greats” earns you the highest ranking of “S”. You can visit the store and buy items to assist you. My first purchases were to add the maximum “breaths” to help eliminate ontama and focus on getting master notes. Currently I am saving points to unlock the bonus songs. If you like rhythm games, this is a MUST for your collection.
I am a huge rhythm game fan and own just about every rhythm based DS game out there (even the cheesy ones) and this one is by far the most challenging. As other reviewers have stated, you must use both your stylus and the up,down, side to side buttons (for right handed) or A, B, X, Y (for left handed). I’m STILL in easy mode and trying to perfect or at least better my score in those levels. Each song proves more difficult and at a fast pace, too. The songs are catchy without being annoying and the graphics are cute, though the story-line is a bit drawn out and really unnecessary. If your a rhythm game fan, this is a MUST HAVE.
I was trying to find this game for soo long and I was looking on eBay and GameStop and they weren’t selling it; when I saw that they sold this game here I bought it. The game works great, no problems when starting it up or anything.
This is a fun puzzle block game! It has a quirky story and interesting game play! Give it a Play!
This is a must-have for people who enjoy rhythm action games (games that involve hitting targets to the beat of music). In this game you have critters that appear on the lower screen, corresponding to scrolling notes across the top. Your objective is to tap and circle the correctly colored critters, which will “activate” screening notes – then, within the same two seconds, you use the directional cross (simultaneously, sometimes, the button pad as well!) and hit either Up, Down, Left or Right at the exact moment that each note passes over a hit target (as with Guitar Hero, Elite Beat Agents, Amplitude, etc).Basically you are constantly circling/tapping and moving up to hit notes, a constant back-and-forth between the stylus and DS buttons/cross. And let me tell you, coming from a rhythm action veteran – this little game gets hard!CONS: As for the theme, everything is cute-Japanese style, not sexy in any way. The “story line” is walking around and finding the next person to battle and is painful at times to scroll through. The actual music is ARCADE POP/JAZZ (Dance Dance Revolution genre), so be warned that it was made for people who can stand that sort of bubbly, techno-infused sound.Bottom line: the challenge of the gameplay outweighs all the other stuff.
