This is a nice improvement in the line of EA NHL games. The graphics are insane and the new skating mechanics are the best yet. Very impressed with this game!
It’s a fun game, but there are issues – most notably with the hits. First off, it’s crazy hard to lay a good hit on someone, and then when you do, there’s a better-than-50% chance he’ll fall the wrong way. Just weird physics. Sometimes the guy will bounce around on the ground like a freshly-landed salmon. Also, my character is slightly smaller than I am in real life, but even at a mere 6’9" 265 pounds, he shouldn’t be able to get knocked flying by a 5’8" guy with a 3′ run-up after a play. EVER. Watch Charra from the Bruins – they practically had a parade when 6’7" Brian Boyle knocked him down to his knees. ONCE. Physics again. On the same note, when that 265 pounds gets moving and contacts another guy who is coming the other way, there will be an impact, not just a gentle sliding-apart motion.The play-by-play is somewhat off at times – for example, many times at the end of the first period, they’ll say, "at the end of two, the Rangers are blahblahblah." Then they’ll say how there are only 20 minutes remaining.The way I play sports games is to create a character that looks like me, then play a career with him/me. The options for customizing the look of the player are really limited, and they’ve made some really dumb programming choices. When picking a name for the announcers to use, my name is not on the list, so I have to pick something close-ish-sounding. This is normal for me, so it’s not a biggie, but you don’t get to test a name, and then.

Excellent game if your a hockey fan. Only issues I have with game is the inability to change goalie during game, and the ridiculously easy call of interference. Other than that, great game.
I would actually give it 4.5 out of 5 but I rounded up. There are so many cool things about this game.1 the physics. its better to go see a youtube video on this then to describe it in words.2 the other professional hockey leagues. I thought this game only had NHL teams nope this game has that plus like 10 other leagues very cool.3 it has a control scheme similar to one of the greatest hockey games of all time NHL 94. if you really want to experience all the great dekes ( there is a video on how to do so many different dekes on youtube).4 I love all the little details like helmets flying off the puck hitting goalie pads and squeaking in, sticks breaking and guys playing through injury till the whistle blows.5 the speed of the game. I love how i make about 20 shots on goal in a period not 60 as i have in some games.6 the winter classic games. it has this years and last years games but you can always add your own teams.7 all the camera angles its a little hard to play but the broadcast camera is so sweet8 the chatter of the players on the ice9 playing as a goalie ( which is in my opinion is difficult) and making an diving save10 skating backwards, its east to do and has a tactical advantageWishlist of things not in this game that would be cool:toggle the 1st person camera during fightsBLOODloosing teethmore of a broadcast feelcustomize the actual puck. like put team logos on ot or import my own pictures.complete customizable controlscustomize the goalies masksclassic teamsinclu.
I was a rabid fan of NHL 12 and thought it was sweet, but NHL13 hits the empty-netter here!!! Awesome gameplay, nice new features in particular the “GM Connected” mode. Better AI and way better game play then 12′.It offers a “free” NHL13 Companion app for your smartphone, so you can manage your GM Connected League/Team and your HUT team as well. There was some confusion on how to login to this companion app, just keep in mind it works but you would login into your Origin account (or create one free) and then use that login information to get into the companion app.I give this game 5 Stars .. without hesitation!!! I own Madden13, NCAA Football13 and after one day of playing NHL13 it is my absolute favorite sports game for the PS3.IF YOU LIKE EA SPORTS NHL12 …. THIS IS AN EASY PURCHASE IN MY OPINION!!!!!!
