This game is a very solid all-around sports game. Graphics and gameplay are outstanding, and there are thousands of ways to customize the experience. Minor league play and franchise creation are great aspects. All in all, a fantastic game.
Works great
This game is soo good, I even got my girlfriend hooked. We each play and scream at the TV as we face off on the ice. It feels so real! We love it. It is tricky to learn, but once you get the hang of it, it is the most fun.
Bought the game on tuesday and havent put it down!great game.finaly after so many years ea put out a hockey game worth buying.last years wasnt bad but not great either.this year is amazing!the ai is great,graphics are great,gameplay,everything,and very challenging on all star.
If you like hockey, you MUST buy this game. I remember when the first EA NHL game came out in the early 90s, and how game-breaking that was… NHL 08 is the same way. The game play is smooth, the graphics are life-like, the dynasty mode is so extensive. I love the new deke controls, and the smarter AI makes everything more challenging. I’m here at work, wishing I was at home playing right now… I’M ADDICTED! Good job EA for making a quality sports game, you should give a raise to everyone on the EA Hockey development team, they freakin deserve it! Gone are the days of easy speed burst one-timers, now everything is more calculated and realistic. You will not regret buying this game!
I have to admit that I was skeptical of the new controls at first. I’ve been playing hockey games for years, and my muscle memory/hand-eye-coordination don’t take too kindly to change. But, change is the future, so I decided to embrace it. Yes, it takes a few games to get the new controls down, but I do like them now. They are more natural…shooting with the right thumbstick is like controlling a miniature hockey stick. And, the flow/speed of the game is much more natural than previous games I’ve played. Lack of speed boost was also hard to get used to, but it forces you to rely on (or develop) your mad skills instead. I recommend this game…and if you’re frustrated at first, just make yourself play a few games, and I think you’ll conform.
My son and I are not big hockey nuts, we root for the Flyers but do not watch many games at all, he loves football, baseball and basketball and plays all of them on the Xbox 360, so when he said he wanted a hockey game I thought why but since it was only 9.99 I said yes, from the first game he played he is totally hook, even I cannot put it down, we both love it, we always have close games and some go to the shootouts, we never had more fun, now the Madden, NBA and MLB games sit there collecting dust, it is a great great exciting game.
Last year’s EA lineup (NCAA football, Madden and NHL) were less than acceptable. This year, they are the best games I’ve played since getting the 360 years ago. NHL is the best of all of the EA lineup. There is complete control with the deke, spinning on the ice for free movement and the realism of the goalie making saves. To not make this a long review, 5 out of 5 for fun, 5 out of 5 for challenge.
I bought this on retrolio last Christmas for my best friend. He has had it for a year and has played it a couple of times a week all year. Love the voice overs and team choices.. we often play Red Wings versus Redwings when we don’t want to fight over teams. : ) I have heard it is better in many aspects than the 2009 version. I got it at a fabulous price.. about 20 dollars, when I couldn’t find it locally for less than 50.
