Kingdom Hearts is one of those games that just dares your dad to break down and rekindle those old Disney inspired, family filled, evenings. Some adults may feel that this game may be a bit out of their league, but you’ll be amazed at how this game is capable of keeping even the most grown up of us around. First of all, the game isn’t terribly difficult to get the hang of or to defeat (even on the higher difficulty setting). And most of the action focuses on constant button mashing much in the vein of your typical Hack n’slasher. You play the as the young boy named Sora who lives on a far away island with his friends Riku and Kairi. The friends all share dreams of adventure and travel. The story takes off from their plunging our hero into a strange yet familiar series of worlds filled with all the Disney inspired goodness most of us have grown up to know. The story itself has it’s intrigueing moments, and yet others where everything is completey predictable. Sora levels up as you gain experience which you’ll recieve for hacking down enemies. And you’ll obtain some pretty interesting combat combonations for reaching new levels. You will be utilizing magic spells as well, though given the relative ease of difficulty, you might be more inclined to simply attack most things. I have found personally that the true challenges in this title lie in mastering all the mini games and completing the colloseum and sub events. And there quite a number of extras to engage in when not busy fo.
I’ve got to admit, back then I wouldn’t care for this game if it didn’t have Disney characters in it. The game play get a little repetitive at times, but they add some elements like advanced magic, special attacks and summons in the game to keep it more interesting and make grinding not so much of a hassle like some games like Pokemon does (Still love Pokemon as well though!). I’ve got to be honest, it’s a little difficult for me to review this game now because I’ve got to admit, my judgement is clouded by the nostalgia effect I have for this game, but some of it with good reason. I think most people would agree with me when I say that the reason the majority of fan are pretty much teenagers like myself and adults, is because Disney meant more to use back then as apposed to kids nowadays (Man, do I sound old), and it’s hard for me to change the way I feel about this game now as an adult because my inner child still really enjoys this universe and game overall, despite some of the flaws this game might have. I really love this game and if you don’t enjoy cheesy Disney stories like friendship and having a good heart and stuff like that, it may be hard for you to get into this game… I experienced this as a child and I believe that’s why I can’t really give a good review but I can say that I personally enjoy it and I hope that this is enough for another consumer to read this and consider buying this game if they want a change of pace from what most kids play today.
Do not let the childish look of this game fool you! It has a very in-depth combat system, and requires great amounts of strategy to complete. This game has a very simplistic yet charming story. You will be exploring various Disney worlds, meeting characters from their respective worlds. The graphics suit both Disney and Final Fantasy characters. Oh, you’ll also meet various characters from Final Fantasy 7 and 8! The sound and voice acting are great, and sound really well for a PS2 game. An overall great game, which I recommend to everyone!
I’ve owned and played this game before, but when my copy of this one and the second one were stolen I was really upset, so I knew I had to have them again. One of my favorite series of games is Final Fantasy, from 5 and up. And since I like Disney movies too this was like an added bonus for me, the two combined. The graphics on this are nice, and I absolutely love the storyline, it’s the type of game I can immerse myself in all day.The game has two setting when you start off Normal and Expert. I’ve never tried expert, but I am thinking about it my next run. At the beginning of they game you get a choice where you want your priority to lie, attack, defense or magic. The game lets you chose one to put more priority on, give one up, and keep the other. Of course if you give up magic you can still learn and use spells, but this is just for how you prioritize things. One of the major things I like though is visiting the other worlds, and just walking around admiring the new environments. You also get to upgrade your weapon via new worlds too, and while I won’t give anything away you will need all the upgrades you can get for the final boss, as anyone familiar with rpg’s should know. ^^I would have rated this game more stars if I could. It’s listed as one of my top favorite games. XD
The characters are fantastic and make the game. The game play itself if not as enjoyable as other games made by SquareEnix, as the combat is relatively simple and the autotargeting and camera angles are frequently not up to snuff when flailing about with your Keyblade at the heartles. It would have been better to have a wider or more zoomed out 3rd person view as Sora takes up a fair amount of the screen and it is hard to see what is next to him unless it is directly straight ahead. I would have preferred moving the camera with an analog stick instead of the triggers, particularly in battle since it is hard to see what you need to whack. Regardless, the combination of Disney and Square characters is what makes the game. So many characters from movies and video games that I grew up with and already have some sort of attachment to are present in the game and really make you want to move forward and develop the story. The cliffhanger of an ending is annoying, but more for setting up what happens in the sequel. The gameplay itself is only slightly above average, but the story with many great characters makes the game worth playing.
This game was an instant classic. Fewer and fewer games nowadays can claim that title. Many games in today’s world thrive on celebrity franchises, like Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, and the like. While this particular game’s PR strategy is that way, the game itself shines brightly, just like the light of Kingdom Hearts. The biggest original selling point was the integration of two VERY different franchises: Final Fantasy and Disney. Bringing these two realms together into one product, particularly an RPG-style video game, must have been a big gamble. However, the geniuses at Square Enix pulled it off spectacularly, and created an entirely new franchise (that can now succeed in part because of its name). Kingdom Hearts takes the story of three young teens, Sora, Riku, and Kairi, who seek the unknown; what lies beyond their tiny island? What other worlds are out there? When their home is attacked by the Heartless and swallowed by the darkness, they are thrust into an imaginative adventure, and find out. Also, King Mickey (yes, it is that Mickey) of Disney Castle senses trouble brewing across the worlds, and departs to fight it. He leaves a note for his Royal Guard, Goofy, and Court Magician, Donald, ordering them to “find the key” and follow it. Sora finds himself in Traverse Town, a safe haven for people whose homes also fell to darkness, where he learns about the power of his new weapon, the Keyblade, and the Heartless that destroyed his home. Donald and Goofy also land here.
Kingdom hearts is the byproduct of Final Fantasy and Disney worlds. For such a strange concept you would never even have guessed that this is one of my favorite games of all time. I remember when i was very small and i had an awesome babysitter who would bring her ps2 over to my house and this game along with it. My 5-6 year old mind was absolutely blown however i never really got that far into the game. The moment i started the game and the opening cinematic started up my nostalgia meter went from zero to eleven in not time at all. After almost finishing the game i would heavily recommend it nostalgia or no nostalgia.
This game is incredible and is easily in my top 10 favorite Video Games of all time.Graphics – The Grapics for this game are amazing even after 8 years. 10/10Story – This game along with the others in the series have the best story ever written! I love the story of Kingdom hearts! 10/10Gameplay – The Gameplay is really really fun! There is alot of spells and different keyblades you can use to fight with. I love having donald and goofy fighting by my side also! 10/10Controls/Camera – The controls are pretty much you basic platformer and the camera is really great also. 10/10Replay Value – This game is really great and you will probally wanna another run through. There is also tons of extra stuff to do. As for the main story its about 20-25 hours. 9/10Overall – Overall this game is a masterpiece and is very well done! Although not as good as its sequel (KH2 is my favorite game of all time) its still an instant classic! If you have not played this buy it now! Overall Score 9.8/10
I thought I was out of luck when the game stopped working! But luckily I figured it all out. If you’re going to get a game on retrolio GET A NEW COPY and dont take the risk of getting a used copy!!!Game:It’s pretty amazing how you can combine characters from other games add a great soundtrack and make a seriously awesome game series. I wish I played KH 1 first but I still loved the soundtrack and great character layout for getting weapons and items. The KH series is definitely a classic and would recommend to anyone who likes RPGs.
I love both Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. I am glad they improved upon some toggling issues in the second game as well as selection issues as well as issues concerning your team such as if you would try to lift a box your teammates would be in the way and the box would break or drop (no lifting boxes in the 2nd game). If you have played the game you know what I am talking about. Toggling issues pertaining to the view of looking up and down to scroll around you are better in the second game as well and without interference from walls as well. There are other selection issues that are avoided in the sequel, but you will see the difference in the game play for yourselves. Even though game play has improved in the second game; both games have their charms to them and both games have great story lines and interesting ways to interact with people and the game on a whole.
