The game was shipped quickly and was exactly what I had ordered. I would recommend this retailer and shop again in the future.
This game scratched exactly the itch I needed it to.
It’s truly refreshing to find a Baseball game I can actually enjoy. Most I have played lack realism, or have fiddly controls. EA Sports have done an excellent job making this game fun to play, with a nice and easy learning curve. Here are the Pros:* Controls. By far the most important aspect of the game, the pitching controls are espically very well implemented.* Realism. There’s a high degree of realism in this game, the players seem very accurate, the physics are almost spot on. My only gripe is that the players are sometimes a little bit too pefect: the game is very forgiving of mistakes.* Graphics. The graphics are superb, but you’ll need a fairly good system to enjoy them. I ran it on a 2Ghz machine with a stock 64Mb video card and gameplay was very smooth at full detail.* Unlockable rewards. I loved being able to play as Babe Ruth, or Nolan Ryan. Playing against them is a challenge as well! The classic stadiums are very well done as well. This makes the game a real nostalgia trip.Cons:* LAN play. Even on a 100BaseT full duplex network the game had noticable lag from time to time (I’ve not tried it over the internet, my home computer isn’t powerful enough – alas). This is really frustrating!* The commentary could have been improved, as it gets very repetitive after a while.* Sometimes the players seem a little too good. I can hit a home run almost every time with some players, even in MVP mode. This just isn’t realistic (Babe Ruth aside). By the same count.
Welp, spring is upon us and whereas its freezing in NY, the heat being generated by MVP Baseball 2004 is incredible.Graphically, this game is impressive. Every patch, stitch and wrinkle in the players uniforms is visible. The sky is gorgeous during the day and filled with stars at night. The grass looks great and every stadium is meticulously detailed down to the little things, like running fountains in KC. The player animations, which looked awesome in 2003, have been completely upgraded. I’ve played approximately 30 games and I still see new animations for fielders taking hops or scooping a bum throw. EA has included crowd animations for the "lower bowl" section of the stadiums, so it truly seems that they get up and cheer when they are expected to.The gameplay on the field is much the same as 2003, and this year All-Star actually seems to be a difficult setting. I stopped playing 2003 as it became too easy on the hardest setting. I can tell that I’ll be playing a full 162 this year. On the field, the players play pretty kmuch the same, with throw meters and so forth. Nothing has changed. Fantastically, EA has added gameplay sliders to increase or decrease the game play abilities in nearly every facet. It seems that EA took a cue from High Heat. The slider will have to be played with and adjusted to your liking. The outfielders run and throw a bit weakly on the default settings, so its common to give up 4 or 5 triples a game. Playing with the sliders has increased.
If 6 stars was an option, I would have surely clicked it. This video game was the essence of my entire childhood and it a part of me still today. Some like to claim the 2005 edition to be the superior game, but are sadly mistaken. This game was and is the greatest video game to ever be created. When playing it it felt as though the game was traveling through the playstation, up the wired controller cord and into my bloodstream directly. To this day I listen to the soundtrack and recite the opening credits. From the simple "play now" option to playing with the hall of fame greats to using secret cheat codes, this game has it all. It fueled by desire to become the MLB star that I unfortunately did not wind up being, but still fills me with that spring training, pre-baseball season buzz. If you have a playstation 2, purchase this game. If you do not, purchase a Playstation 2, and then purchase this game. You will never regret it.
Amazing
I don’t like baseball very much. Give me the NFL and NBA anyday. However, this game is so brilliant it inspires me to give baseball a chance again.EA Canada, with the exception of the NBA Street games, has generally always been second fiddle to the EA Tiburon Development team. With this effort they have made the best baseball game ever and a game that is impossible to put down. It’s similar to Tiger Woods 2004 in that it’s a sport most gamers don’t really follow but it is crafted so brilliantly that you want to learn more about the real game if you to dare put down the controller and stop playing.EA Canada has taken the big improvements they made in MVP 2003 and upgraded considerably. The hitting and pitching interface IS BASEBALL!! It can be difficult on the default Pro level, but after time it becomes intuitive and is extremely rewarding. Besides a successfull baseball player averages a hit 3 out of 10 at bats… so it’s realistic. The fielding has been dramatically improved and getting a jump on the ball is easier and key to making a play. The pitching is basically identical to last year, with the exception of mound visits that can effect the confidence of the pitcher. The graphics remind me of NBA Live 2004. The big time players do look like their real self (albiet with a kind of cartoony look), and the secondary players can look a little more generic. Sega Sports generally beats EA in this field every year and this probably won’t be any different this year. The sound is wo.
Folks, this is the baseball game to get. All Star Baseball’s franchise has gone downhill since 2001, ESPN has great graphics but nothing else, Triple Play is crap. After researching all these games, I selected this one, and could not be happier. The gameplay here is solid. Unlike All Star Baseball which is too hard, you will be able to make contact most times. You will have a good degree of control of your pitches. There are no major issues with the controls, read the booklet to find out how to do diff things (slides, advancing runners etc.) but after an hour or two you will have it down pat.Graphically this game is great. The players actually resemble their real life counterparts, to a degree. There are no graphical glitches whatsoever (like players sliding through a baseman, which allows some cool slides that knock down the fielder.) The only problem is that the ball looks too big in proportion to the field, but that allows you to see it a little better so its all good. There are some minor issues here, some more minor than others but none so problematic that it should turn you off of the game. The one you might notice first is the rarity of home runs, even in the easiest difficulty. My first 5 or so games went by without one homer. After a while you’ll realize that they just come randomly. If you hit the ball well it will go over the fence, but dont expect it too often. Sometimes you will be rewarded for your patience though. (I had a 4 home run game after about 8 without on.
I bought WS baseball 2 yrs ago and ASB last year, and I bought MVP this year. MVP is better than both of those. It remains to be seen if it’s better than the new WS baseball (now called ESPN baseball).I bought the PS2 version of MVP purely so I could play it online. It was against my better judgement that I did this–the xbox version ALWAYS has better graphics. The PS2 graphics are good–pretty much what you are used to–nothing new really. I don’t get into player models all that much so I don’t really care. If you want photo-realistic player models get the xobox version.Positives:+Pretty deep for stats. This probably won’t make the baseball wonks happy, but it’s close enough for me.+Dynasty mode. This is deep and insane. This should make everyone happy if you have time to devote to it. The minor league stuff is great.+Gameplay. Fielding is pretty darn good. I really like the way they’ve integrated the "Big Play" system w/the right thumbstick–it makes you feel like you are making some extra effort to knock down the tough play. Baserunning is good as well. I like the windows so you can control the runners individually if you want.+Hitting. A good balance between being able to get hits but not turning the games into homerun contests. I like that you have a little more control over how you hit the ball. It’s also great that the game gives you some control over sac flys–a key strategem in real baseball that always gets short-shrift in the gaming versi.
Without out a doubt this is the best baseball game available. EA has never quite been able to match the success of their madden franchise with baseball, but this one comes close. For the reviewer with the complaint about Barry Bonds not being included in the game: this is not EA’s fault. Bonds is no longer a part of the MLB players association therefore no baseball game you buy this year and in future seasons (unless Bonds decides to rejoin the players assoc.)will feature Bonds because only players that belong to the union can have their name or likeness used in mlb video games, advertisements, etc. If you want Bonds in the game just go change the name of the left fielder get last seasons stats off cbs sportsline or espn.com and you’ll be set. This is what I did and his numbers ended up pretty comparable. He made the NL all star team as a starter in the season I am currently playing.
