Great game with a lot of ways to strategize. Even two players have a good time. Even with the expansions there could be more done. It’s a good intro game. Though, there have been questions regarding rules that we weren’t able to get answered even with the advanced link.
My wife and I like board games/card games. This is definitely on the harder end to understand. It took us 3 games and reading the ENTIRE manual to understand. But it really is fun once you get the hang of it though maybe it is just us who had a hard time getting the rules and flow of the game. It is quite a refreshing break from your standard board games though.
Bought this after playing it once with my gaming group. I really enjoy that it can be played with two players. It is simple enough to play with my non-gamer wife, but still has some complexity. My one complaint is that you don’t have many options when choosing which room to play. Unless you get rooms that specifically allow you to draw more room cards, you can sometimes be limited to just one or two in your hand and no options. Luckily boss monster 2 is coming out soon and looks to address that exact issue.Overall I recommend this game as it is a quick fun filler game. If you ar into strategic and non-luck based TCGs like magic then you should probably skip this one. If you are looking for a quick game that can be played with family and friends then definitely give this one a go!
My niece and nephews love this game! ItĆ¢ā¬ā¢s they only one they can all agree is fun. I will note, it is not a good idea to try and combine the base game and bigger expansions that double as base games in their own right.
Boss Monster is a table top card game designed to attract players through the use of nostalgic 8-bit video game graphics. Players take on the role of non-licensed stereotyped boss monsters from classic video games. Through the use of cards and special abilities, the players design the "level" or dungeon the heroes (not played by a human player) have to endure to slay the players. Different rooms have different abilities and have treasures that attract specific heroes. As time moves on, epic heroes begin to take up their swords, bows, and magic staffs to slay the beastly players with the winner being the one who has slain the most heroes and lasted the longest. The game is fairly simple to learn and fun to play in a group of friends, though the two-player option is fairly hum-drum and not worth the time in my opinion. The art design of the cards clips right in to the nostalgic feel and will make those who played those games have a pretty good chuckle. For the casual table top game players out there, I would just play this one at a friend’s house. For the more avid table-topper, this one is worth a buy. It doesn’t cost much and has some pretty solid replay-ability and can be played with a fairly widely arrayed audience.
Boss Monster is a fun game and has high replay value. The strategy is can very from none to very cut-throat depending on the group playing and the cards. Players will develop their own strategies as the subtle aspects of the game are reviewed through success and failure. The rules are simple but do require a careful read through before starting. I recommend playing the "hard way" by removing the heroes with only 4 lives. Game is best played with four players, although a two player game is best for teaching.
This game has some cool iconic and pop culture references if you like old gaming. It also is fairly well balanced. There isn’t a lot I would change in it. It is pretty fast paced and good if you just want to do a few quick games and don’t have hours to sit down to grind out something more complicated. It is also good for traveling, fits easily in its box and I sleeved all the cards too so they don’t get damaged. Even sleeved they all fit right back in. I’d like to see more card types and maybe add ons that I may explore.
Fun game at first but becomes a bit repetitive after a while. It is very easy to get a bad start and difficult to recover from it. We’ve had a ton of run away games where the next few minutes are just delaying the inevitable. I feel there is too little to do against other players when they get what they want as the spell cards are difficult to obtain. Additionally there are a lot of repeat rooms which makes each game you play feel like the last one.Still fun to play on occasions. This is one we’ll pull out every couple months.
It can take a bit to get all the rules down (like where to build certain dungeons) but its a really fun game. Even if you aren’t in the running to win the game you can make it difficult for others to do so. To me it feels a little like munchkin but from the monster’s point of view.
So far, we have only played this a handful of times, but we really enjoy it! The very first game took us a little over an hour, because there are a lot of rules to follow and some aren’t the easiest to figure out. We did not venture to the website for additional help, yet but as we play it more, we have more in depth questions where we will need to consult the more extensive list of Q&As. Fun to play if you already like games such as D&D, or Dominion!
