This is a good follow-up to MH3U. Everything from the last game is here and has been improved on. New weapons, new monsters, different ways to get materials now exist ect. You can now play online with others instead of just local play. I only have one gripe; monsters both big and small in this version all seem to be faster. Not just a little faster but almost double the speed while your character is still just as slow as before. Anyway if you have three to four hundred hours to throw away this is the game for you.
My son and daughter have really enjoyed the games. Sadly it’s got more of a learning curve to it than I could handle, so I gave up. Even my daughter says it takes a bit to get used to the controls, but once she got them down it wasn’t that difficult. There is some strategy involved, and you have to plan ahead. It’s a challenging game when first starting, but when you get the hang of it, it’s fun. This is the way my daughter explained it.Hopefully the new Final Fantasy game being released in January will be more my style. :o)
This game is awesome. It greatly improves upon the mechanics from the 3rd one. Some may be turned off though by the grinding and lack of story but these types of games aren’t meant to be story driven. It’s best when you get online and play with other people and chat with each other and take down huge monsters together. I’m no veteran but I did play a lot of 3 ultimate and I have to say that I’m quite please with this new iteration. I bought it fully knowing what I was getting into and it’s awesome to have new weapons and abilities you can do thru those weapons and also the environment itself. The under water portions from 3 ultimate will be missed but be able to jump off of any ledge on top of a monster in this one more than makes up for this. All in all, I would say to give it a try and try to see past the slow paced tutorial when u first start out cause once you get passed that, it is truly an enjoyable experience.
As a Monster Hunter veteran (been playing since MHFU), I can say that this is one of the best installments in the series. Having invested 800+ hours in this game, several great features that I can come up with off of the top of my head are:1. MOUNTING. This new mechanism is so much fun to play with, and also makes it much easier to break specific parts of a monster.2. INSECT GLAIVE. The idea of such a new weapon type is also quite novel. Being able to vault from anywhere makes it a mounting powerhouse. It also has insanely high damage output. Having a glaive user in the party is almost always a blessing.3. GUILD QUEST. These quests are a blackhole for your time. They are hard, and gives the best end-game rewards.4. STORY. The game has a well written story line with accompanying quests. You get to hunt with some NPCs at some point. There are also some other improvements here and there, such as the introduction of item sets, making it much easier to manage your items. All in all, MH4U is hands down one of the best installments of the MH series, and also one of the best games on the DS platform. I barely played any other game in the couple first months that I got MH4U. I would definitely recommend getting a copy of this even if Generations has been out for a couple months by the time of this writing.
85 hours in, and I still haven’t beaten the main story. You know, the main story that’s just a tutorial for the rest of the game.Hundreds upon hundreds of hours of great content in one tiny cartridge. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate represents some of the most epic, complete, complex, and satisfying gameplay available on a handheld system.
I was a new player to Monster Hunter, so this was a new and exciting experience for me, that being said the game will guide you every step of the way whether you want it to or not, and I found myself in love with it. MH4 gives the player ever increasing challenges as they progress through monster hunter ranks, as well as all sorts of wonderful, horrifying new monsters. I personally have been really enjoying the new insect glaive, and is a blast to play with friends. The game has a great sense of humor showed in the individuals you talk to, and despite the danger and frustration of failing to beat up a monster, gives you lots of opportunities to train elsewhere and hone your skills before proceeding. This is not a game for the faint of heart because the difficulty ramps up quite exponentially as you play through it, but if you are willing to struggle and improve your weapon, armor, and skills, it can make for a very rewarding experience.
Monster Hunter isn’t that booming much in the USA as it does in Japan and other places. I previously own MH3U and I could tell you the game gets gradually tougher for this one while Tri can sometimes make you either rage or look for other resourceful information. MH4U kind of makes hunting a bit more easier…but don’t get cocky though..some monsters can pull one on you especially Gore Magala. The new weapons "Insect Glaive" and "Charge Blade" are loads of fun as well as the new feature of mounting the monsters. There are some cool looking weapons such as the Fledderklauen. There’s a guarantee that there’ll be a monster you’ll hate and a monster you love. You might love fighting the Tetsucabra but hate the Khezu. Monsters like the Lagia aren’t in here…I miss Arzuros but never Barroth. Chacha and Kayamba are no longer in this one and are replace for Palicoes who are your comrades and they all have different abilities. As for multiplayer, make sure you have the right people who are willing to play. I tried finding people, though I’m a solo hunter, but sometimes company is always nice or needed especially when doing G Rank missions. But beware there are some vets who don’t like newbies or fresh starters of armor. In other words, don’t fret when you’re kicked out and always have a goal for either a weapon, armor or both and always be in the right crowd. DLC happens every month and some are great and others are not so great; new missions each month. Foremost, ha.
It’s monster hunter 3, which is awesome by the way, but vastly improved. The user interface is cleaner and intuitively customizable. The loading times are shorter. There are new ways to combat monsters and navigate terrain which makes gameplay more fluid and enjoyable. If you hated the underwater battles from MH3U, you can rejoice in knowing that those battles are not in this installment. If you loved those battles… I’m sorry… I can’t help you there. You can have up to two palicoes (cat buddies) follow you into battle at a time and you can customize their gear and even name your main palicoe (I named mine Grumpy Tom after the bassist of Turbonegro). Plus it has a ton of FREE DLC to keep you playing.I do wish there was a WiiU version but this game is still awesome. If you like spectacle fighters like Devil May Cry, games like Onimusha, or Shadow of the Colosus for its boss fights mixed in with some pseudo RPG elements… Then you will probably love this game.If you are someone who needs a score… I give Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate a 8.75 out of 10.
It’s wonderful when a game drags you in because you yourself are intersted, having fun, invested; not because the game is holding your hand. This game isn’t for everyone, you do need a bit of personal drive but this game is great if you allow yourself the time to get into it.Crafting up better gear, learning fights, dodging around, gathering, all of these are a process and learned skills that you develop within the game. Not to mention you can do it all solo or online!
This game is incredibly addicting. To start, the intro does a fairly decent job of getting players started in their hunting career. The story is quite uninspired and doesn’t feel like Capcom spent much effort on it. But honestly, no one plays monster hunter for the story. This game starts off very easy but can become very difficult if the player doesn’t practice analyzing monsters or spend time grinding monsters for gear. This time around, however, finding help is much more accessible (3u for the 3ds didn’t have online multiplayer unless you owned a Wiiu) because online multiplayer is built in. It has its own lobby search with filters to choose specific monsters or quest type or hunter ranks (hunters your level or below).Once you’ve gotten a good grip of low rank, you ascend in difficulty with stronger monsters (more defense and attack) that allows you to craft better gear (monster armor and several weapons). Most of the game may seem like a never ending grindfest for better gear to survive just a little longer against monsters higher in rank but there is an end. That end comes in the form of Apex monsters. Essentially the same monsters with increased damage (some attacks one hit ko) along with newer move sets to get used to.This game is one of the biggest monster hunter games in the series but may not be suitable for all gamers as it’s focus is on large monster battles only and nothing else. I’m also writing this in 2am to pass time so please excuse the format and sub par revi.
