I have always been an avid baseball fan, and now I am finally happy playing a console baseball game. I really like the simplicity that MLB 08 The Show offers, and it’s easy to start playing, even with someone who has never played before. As an avid fan, I really enjoy the “Going to the Show” feature, and having played over 100 games now, I have made it through the minors to the majors, and the gameplay is still fun. My only warning is you may get a bit tired of the same announcers saying basically the same things, but I find it doesn’t bother me too much. I guess there is only so much to say anyway! All in all, this is a really fun game that looks good and play smooth too.
MLB 08 The Show delivers an exciting game of baseball that truly puts you right in the stands. Most noticeably, MLB 08 was given a huge upgrade in the presentation department. Refined player models, stadiums, colors and cut scenes deliver a believable experience. Better yet, these additions do not cause the frame rate to drop during the game.Road to the Show also received a few updates, including coach signals as well as fielding impact. Last year, playing defense didn’t mean a thing. You were essentially taking up space/time as it just didn’t matter what you did (or didn’t do). That’s changed. You earn points for playing good defense and you lose points for bad plays. Don’t forget to cover the base during a double play or steal.Franchise mode is basically the same with the exception of additional stat overlays and displays. Franchise is still very deep as it was last year.Online play is great. Remember, these games are peer-to-peer. IF YOU PLAY SOMEONE WITH A POOR CONNECTION, YOUR GAME WILL LAG. IF YOU LAG ALL THE TIME, IT’S PROBABLY YOUR CONNECTION. Games are lag-free (again, assuming you play someone with a decent connection). As of last night, there were many players online. You shouldn’t have any problems getting a game going.
Overall this is a great game with terrific graphics and very realistic player motion. I could easily play a full season and have fun doing it. That said, I have the following gripes, some minor, some not so minor:- Too hard to steal well, even if you have the baserunning slider cranked up all the way.- Too hard to pitch well (esp. striking people out).- Too hard to draw walks (a perrenial issue with baseball video games).- Somewhat too many foul balls (though there appears to be a slider to control this).- Doesn’t feel like a true ballgame because doesn’t have a professional sports broadcast (with ESPN logo, etc…).- Not enough great fielding plays (e.g., second baseman slides, grabs the ball, throws out the runner from his knees or robbing people of HRs).- Fielders run kind of silly after the play; no throwing the ball around the horn if you want to.- Far more balls hit to the Second Baseman; he gets probably about four times more balls than the Shortstop.- Fairly boring commentary; just a couple of OK ‘color’ lines about the play-by-play guy’s ugly shirt or tie that get repeated again and again- Hard to press X to get the ball back from the catcher, umpire or recovery from the last play without locking yourself in to your prime pitch. Once there, there’s no way to reset.- Not true ballpark scene from a sponsor perspective; e.g., ‘Jazola Cola’ instead of Coke or Pepsi.- No home run trot or celebration (really?).- Pitches too often go not where you want them to.- No alter.
I have been waiting for a quality MLB game to come out for the PS3 and saw that The Show was getting more attention than 2K8, so I preordered The Show. I played it today and I am blown away. This game is great. I love how simple basic gameplay is. You can get really good at this game, but at the same time, someone who has not played this game before will be able to pick it up and compete. HD graphics and THX sound. This game is excellent.
This game has about 30 new features that the previous one didn’t have. The graphics are awesome, the frame-rate is top notch, and the commentary is very accurate. The pitching and hitting is much more difficult and eventually you will get the hang of it. The Road to the show is really addictive and it would be more addictive if you could earn achievement points like in MLB2k8. There are some little things that should be fixed and one of them is that there is a lack of collision detection meaning that players walk through each other. The other is that you don’t see Jeter making his signature throw to first when he fields the ball and leaps high in the air to throw to first. Also when I played, Jeter was ejected for arguing in a spring training game; that is not realistic and should be fixed. The last thing is that I noticed J.Santana was still on the Twins. As for creating a player in the game I thought the graphics of the face could have been better since the faces in NHL 08 are superb.
excellent
Hands down, this is the best baseball game on the market. Sony has taken the time and effort to perfect a baseball game with every aspect of realism you can have! From the people in the stands to the signiture moves of the players, to the unique not often repeated announcers… no game has ever gotten you closer to actually being at a ball park. I am an avid baseball fan, and I can say that I really look for authenticity when it comes to my sports (especially baseball games). The controls are perfect, not too crazy as well, which is very important. Overall, I’d say Sony has a huge winner when it comes to this game!
If anybody have a better sport game, then call me.. Is like see a baseball game. When i’m playing the game, people aroundme thinks that is a real baseball game. Is Really Amazing! You have to get it because you’re missing so much.. It’s quality is 10 stars non five.
This game definitively lives up to all of the hype. If you are a hard core baseball fan, love video games, this game is the way to go.Pitching, fielding, hitting, and base running are the most realistic and fun of any other baseball game I have played. Pitching is not only pressing a button and expecting the pitch to go exactly to that spot, as with other games. In this game, the pitcher has to work to get a good feel for all his pitches. The more you use a type of pitch, and the better you get hitters out with it, the more effective it becomes. The less you use a pitch, the less effective, and harder to throw (as in real life).Franchise mode in this game is great. You have comprehensive control including player contracts, ticket prices, vendor prices, travel costs, and even bank loans. Since most people probably can’t play every game in the season, the simulation mode is pretty accurate. You can even sim through innings in the middle of a game. Playing with the Giants, they were around 30-35 after two months of the season with pretty similar stats to their actual performance this year (horrible hitting but great starting pitching). To top it all off, graphics are excellent.
Okay, I won’t rehash all of those above pro’s and con’s. This is simply the best baseball game around today. And hey, if YOU can build a better one- go for it! I will buy it!I actually only have one question: I loaded music onto my ps3 converted it to mp3 like the instructions said, then made my playlist, and although the songs WILL play during the various menu screens, I believe I have yet to hear any songs play during game time. I do hear the pre-loaded songs play…”sweep the leg” whatever that means. At times I will hear a jumbled noise. Does that have anything to do with the bit rate? Like I stated my music will play during menus, but game time is different…any help would be appreciated!!Thanks a bunch!!
