I’ll admit, I’m a bit biased when it comes to MGS. I love the series with an incredible passion, and I absolutely adore the character’s chemistry with each other. So, since I can’t bring myself to do an honest review, I’ll just state what’s contained in the HD collection. The disc has three games inside it. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The latter being a PSP 4-player co-op exclusive. The Pros:>Very much unlike the SIlent Hill HD Collection, the game itself wasn’t tampered with. They just buffed up the graphics and that’s it.>MGS:PW no longer requires "AD-HOC Party" or "XLINK KAI" in order to play co-op with your friends.>Both MGS2 and MGS3 contain their "improved" versions, Substance and Subsistance. This means that you will be able to play MGS3 with a fully rotating camera. Fitting for the "always be aware" jungle atmosphere. The Cons:>Almost all of the hilarious easter eggs were stripped from MGS3. I don’t know why, but even the tiny things, such as Snake’s dream, are absent from this release.>I realize that enhancing something takes money and time, but textures in the games are incredibly bad. They still have their PS2 textures with an HD update, which makes it look really silly when you compare the the beautiful rain to a badly textured box side by side.>Remember all those fun times you had with Peace Walker on your PSP? Remember when you final.
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is the best way to enjoy the series’ best moments on a modern console.Metal Gear Solid 3 has gained the most visually from the HD conversion, with details such as Snake’s injured eye after escaping his prison cell being visibly damaged as opposed to appearing to be a red splotch in the original PS2 version. The version included is the Subsistence version, meaning that it also comes with extra camos, facepaints, a theater for the cutscenes, and the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. However, the game is missing the Snake vs. Monkey minigame due to being a multiplatform game, along with Snakes Nightmare, the Secret Theater scenes, Metal Gear Online, and the Duel mode.Metal Gear Solid 2 doesn’t receive much of an upgrade in visuals from what I can tell, but more importantly everything still works the same, and the added features from the Substance version are included, like Snake Tales, the casting theater, and the VR missions.Peace Walker, at least in my opinion, plays MUCH better on the PS3 due to having two analog sticks and more shoulder buttons. While I’m not particularly fond of this one’s gameplay style, I still have to give credit to Konami for the Transfarring feature in the PS3 version so you can import a save file from the PSP version and export it back.Altogether, this is an example of an HD collection done right, where the versions with added features are included, there are no glitches, the graphics have a noticeable u.
If you are a fan of the Metal Gear franchise then you MUST get this collection. I finally got mine on Friday and I cannot stop playing it. I’m so happy that I can finally play all of these games again without having to dig out my Playstation 2. I also love the fact that you can hunt for trophies now with these games as well. All of the awesome gameplay that you remember but with better graphics AND on your PS3. How can it get any better?
excellent product
A must have for Metal Gear Solid fans.. period! A remastered version of Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, and Peace Walker for the PS3 and the best of all, is that you getting the Substance and Subsistence versions of Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater. Trophies support for each games and lots of memories. Like I said: A must have.. and if you have not played these, now you got the perfect opportunity to do so
The best part of this collection is having Metal Gear Solid 3 running at a lock solid 60fps. Everything else is practically a bonus, though it sucks that Snake vs. Monkey was removed even in the PS3 version.
Megal Gear was one of the first games I ever played. Love this series. Can’t wait to get the next release in the series.
For those that were not able to play these classic games (particularly MGS3 and MGS2) on their original PlayStation 2 platform, this is a really excellent collection. My only criticism for this collection is that MGS1 was not included, would definitely be nice to see that game remade in HD.
My first Metal Gear game was Metal Gear Solid on the Ps1. I played it when I was 11 or 12 years old and I remember how much fun I had. I played MGS2 when I was around 18 and for 10 years I didn’t play anymore Metal Gear games. Now I started to play all of them again (starting from MGS1 bought from PSN) and I have to say that I appreciate the story so much more and they are still so much fun and the quality is amazing even if you play MGS from the PS1. Some guy says that not having MSG1 here is bad but you can get that from the PSN for 9 bucks and is well worth the money.
