best football game since NFL 2K5
I don’t regret getting this game at all and have played Madden to compare it to.The difference between the two games is passion. There is no passion in Madden. You find that passion in APF. What do I mean? It means that players don’t just stand around after plays the way they do in Madden. The sidelines react to the play on the field. There are details that are completely absent in Madden, mainly in terms of presentation.Gameplay is better as well. Madden’s running game has always been inferior to 2K and this year is no exception. It’s easy to follow blocks in 2K and very difficult in Madden.Creating different teams and uniforms in APF is a lot of fun and the stadiums are great.Yes, this is all fictional, but creating teams and taking them online is the heart of this game.It is really great to look at your online oponents and focus the strategy of your game based on their strengths and weaknesses. They need to bring the presentation up to the 2K5 level and improve the player graphics a little bit, but what’s there is still superior to Madden’s dull radio commentary and complete lack of TV like presentation. Madden lacks a half time highlight show and post game show as well. Both games are still inferior to 2K5, but APF is as close as it gets and its twist on football makes it a very intriguing game you’ll be playing for a while.Next year should be that much better if they add a franchise mode. They should also add fictional team histories or even go all out and create.
APF 2K8 delivers a great football simulation based upon the legendary NFL 2K5 engine. The NFL 2K5 engine was updated with improved AI, better pocket formation, glitch fixes, HD graphics, a full suite of online options (quick match, lobbies, tournaments, leagues, etc.), 40% more animations, and 240+ licensed football legends. With APF 2K8 you draft your team from the 240+ legends available by picking 2 gold star tier players, 3 silver star tier players, and 6 bronze star tier players. The rest of the time is filled out with computer-generated players. With your team you can play individual games or take your team through season of the (fictional) All Pro Football league. When you tire of playing against the AI, take your team online and play against thousands of other players and their legend draft teams.People that love single player experiences may be upset that no franchise mode is included. However, the high-quality of the 2K Sports gameplay should more than make up for the missing franchise mode. The uniforms, helmets, and the football all look great. The fanciful fictional stadiums are excellent. However, the player faces are not all good representations and the field itself is a just textured plane. All in all, this is a very fun football game that should be a welcome addition to any football fans game collection. It is certainly a welcome relief to see some competition enter the football videogame space since having a complete monopoly on all football videogames h.
A classic. Only wish there was a way to get more gold tier players on one team.
I have to admit that this game didn’t exactly blow me away, but it’s still good fun. After you boot the game up, you immediately have to create a team. I am a Cowboys fan from back in the day, so naturally I chose Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Darryl “The Moose” Johnston. Unfortunately they didn’t put Michael Irvin in the game, so I chose Alvin Harper as my WR. I just played an exhibition game to warm up.The controls are practically identical to 2K5, but they added a few new moves and animations (like the reach tackle) that open things up a bit. The game plays a little more sluggish than 2K5, but it still feels realistic. I have seen some nasty hits and some great gang tackles. I also have noticed a couple of weird animations and glitches (for example, on one play my RB crashed to the ground about 1/2 second before the LB tackled him). The graphics are just okay. I’ll just say that is looks slightly upgraded from 2K5, but not a huge jump. I would definitely say Madden looks better. The customization is great. You have to choose a team name (more selections would have been nice) and stick with their assigned team logo, but then you can customize the entire uniform, including colors for helmets, jerseys, shoes, gloves, elbow pads, etc, etc. My team (Dallas Cougars) definitely looks like the Cowboys.Another thing to note is that the star players do not necessarily dominate the field. I made some good runs and catches with my generic players. The star players do have some cool animati.
Its reshreshing to have a pro-football game thats not a NFL licesed production. The idea to have old time pro players and made up teams as well as the ability to create your own team down to the players, uniforms and stadium is very fun.
I’ve waited for the release of this game for a very long time. I was hooked to the 2K football series since its inception on the Dreamcast. However, after the EA exclusive license, I played Madden, hoping that one day the NFL would realize how poorly EA has done since. I purchased my 360 last year just so I could experience football with a next gen machine. Madden 2007 on the 360 was a pure joke. My 360 was benched in favor of the PS2 version, which was at least bearable. If you are a fan of online football gaming like myself, you will find this game to be top notch. I’ve played two online games tonight and 2k has not missed a beat. Granted, they reused the audio from the old series but who cares? It’s still better than the cheesy ‘Maddenisms’. The graphics, the animations, and the overall presentation make this game much more fun to play online. The best part of playing online is that I can finally get back to playing in online leagues! In Madden, you have pseudo leagues that you pay for at third party sites. Here, each league has its own web page and you can make trades with other players via the web interface. Think online fantasy football. The greatest benefit of leagues is that you can establish them with players you trust, and weed out the cheese ballers.I want to make it clear that I am not a 2k fanboy. I am a person who desires to play the most realistic football game out there. And being that this is a game made by human beings, this game does have its flaws. However,.
When I first heard about this game and that you could play football legends I was ecstatic. Finally a football video game that actually has the great football legends and with their actual names, numbers and faces. With special skills and stats for each one. It seems to me the makers of this game must be Dallas Cowboy fans because I was able to fill my roster with all time Cowboy greats. Such as Roger Staubach, Emmit Smith, Drew Pearson, Ed Too Tall Jones, Moose Johnston, Alvin Harper, Harvey Martin, Ken Norton Jr., Charlie Waters, Leon Lett, and even an ex-Cowboy Kicker Murray. There is also Randy White, Troy Aikman, Cliff Harris, Billy Joe Dupree, and Bob Lilly.Problems: The field goal kicking and kick offs are all screwed up, even if you do everything perfectly it is still impossible to make anything more than a 15 yard field goal and it is very difficult to get a decent kickoff!Make sure you save the game in your profile! It will not save your progress automatically. The game gets progressively harder as you move forwards into the season. This is to be expected, except it is so hard that it is next to impossible to beat certain teams taking the fun out of the game,. More on this later….The game has special moves and abilities for each player that you have to use controller configurations to make happen. However, the moves are not in the manual and they are very trying to use even if you do know them.Solutions to problems: One thing that keeps happening in the game is you.
I got this for my boyfriend. He loves playing it and says its better then the madden games he plays.
Madden has been hit or miss for me over the years, and this years version was supposed to be so much better than the past 2 360 versions. And being a huge Jets fan was dying to play with the current roster. But unfortunately, while the franchise mode is Excellent, the online sorely lacking and most important, the Actual Gameplay is Not very good. Won’t get into more details regarding that since this is a review for 2k8. As far as 2k8 is concerned, while the season mode is lacking, the online mode is light years ahead of madden with its smooth play and online leagues and tournaments. And the actual gameplay itself is Realistic !!!!!If you like kiddie gameplay, go pick up Madden. If you want serious Sim gameplay and killer online play, even if it is with Legends (although you Can create any player you want and use them), pick up 2k8. And don’t listen to the madden fanboys, of which there are Many !!
