as a gift for my nephew and he seems to love it. Sorry I can’t provide any insight on the game itself.
I got this game the day it came out. If you like hack n slash games, you’ll love this. If this game was stripped of the Lord of the Rings title, it would still be great! I remember it being pretty short (about 6-10 hours) and I beat it 4 times on each difficulty. If you carry over your character from each play through, the difficulty didn’t seem to change. A very easy game. Slightly linear, but to be honest sometimes that’s not a bad thing. The story was fairly interesting, the characters looked nice, and the gameplay was fun! It might get a little boring for some people though, but with all the (basic) powers you can get keeps it pretty fresh. I encountered no glitches & I don’t really get why people didn’t like this. For under $20 you own yourself as a hack and slash fan, LotR’s fan or a fan of both to get this game. You should enjoy it. Thanks.
I was worried about getting this game due to the Mature rating but you can disable the gore to make it ok for younger fans. The story and game play are great. One problem keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the save game method is very confusion and causes some co-op synch issues.
i enjoyed the game i love the balance and entertainment i got out of it. I enjoy being sucked in into middle earth time and time again.
Much has changed since AcidRounds first reviewed games for nine people several years ago. He got married, and his wonderful wife loves games, too. The only problem now is finding quality "couch-co-op" (local multiplayer/two-player) games! But "Lord of the Rings: War in the North" is one of those PRECIOUS few titles (see what I did there?) that provides satisfying, Tolkien-lore combat in a linear-style RPG progression format.Play as the roguish Dunedain Ranger, the mighty dwarf warrior, or the magic-casting she-elf. Take on the swarming troops and big brutes of Mordor directly as your quest shapes you and your companions into a small but powerful force capable of leading the bulk of Sauron’s forces away from Frodo and the rest of The Fellowship of The Ring. Meet nearly every character depicted in the movies at some point.Combat’s pretty straightforward: the pointy end goes in the bad guys. Hack and slash with a few ranged abilities and special abilities for each character to upgrade when you level up. This does allow you to specialize your character a bit more, choosing to plunk more points into ranged attacks over higher health, or better damage output with swords instead of expertise with shields. This is crucial as you progress with a buddy and balance your combat styles. If you like to mostly stay put and cut your enemies down only when they get close enough, your friend can play the sniper with arrows or ranged magic attacks. Build "aggression&.
Works perfectly, arrived fast.
Read other reviews for in-depth analysis.I only played it co-op with a friend. It was fun and kept my interest throughout. I will probably play it again solo to mopup achievements. It’s worth $20 for sure, even better if it’s less.
I have just finished my first play through of this in solo mode and it’s a pretty solid game. It’s a linear hack ‘n’ slash that is done pretty well. The mechanics are simple enough, no big combo buttons to hit. I played as the Ranger and he ended up pretty well balanced as we killed our way through Aganduar’s minions. The Graphics are pretty darn good and the atmospheric music works well.Contrary to many reports, you do need to think a bit in combat as just charging in will have you down and out pretty quick. There is plenty of loot to sell and swap around your team and it’s easy to manage that part. For those of you who are looking for RPG elements, then this really doesn’t contain them, the plot is linear and the interaction with the NPC’s either furthers this plot or provides background info on LoTR, but does not allow you to change the storyline.Neither is this a ‘free world’ roam, you go in a line as guided by the game. There has been a lot of concern about the AI not levelling the other characters. It actually does so automatically, neither it, nor you need to apply the points they gain unless you wish to switch to that character, I found my companions quite smart and capable of looking after themselves and me. The AI is also smart enough to gather it’s own loot for these characters and equips the best equipment for them, so if you can’t remember what they have and give them an inferior ‘gift’ the AI won’t equip it :-)Overall, I enjoyed my 14 hours in Middle Earth (familiar.
We love this game!!! So much fun to play couch co-op ðŸ˜. They should make more games like this!
This game is a giant free for all fight. You play as either a ranger, loremaster, or champion and all classes play the same. It explores the battle that took place across Middle-Earth when Frodo was trekking through Mordor. It brings back familiar faces like Gandalf, Aragorn, and Gimli. It also brings new characters into the frey. It is a great game and I recomend it to all Lord of the Rings fans.
