I bought this for my best friend as a Christmas gift and when he opens it, we play it all night mixing beats, scoring points, and having fun. There’s really no losers when you’re making some awesome beats.
Incredibly fun game, you do need to tame the proper steps to protect the cards though (as with any trading card game). The game magically makes any card you drop down sound great, and weirdly gives you this sense of power of creating music. As with any trading card game, there’s always a sense of being bummed out due to needing to purchase more cards, but the mixes you can create make collecting beyond addicting.
I bought this as sort of a family game. My daughter (3.5) isn’t at the level of playing the competition modes, but she loves just using the freeplay mode to make music. She really loves the "music box". The songs that come out are surprisingly decent. You wouldn’t think that Bruno Mars mixed with Disturb’d would make for a tolerable song… but it does!I am definitely considering buying the expansion packs!
Super fun game! It’s a fun game you can play either by yourself or with friends. For solo modes they have puzzles and even a free style mode so it is still fun to play alone. They also have a versus and party mode for multiple players so depending on if you want to play against or with your friends you have options. Definitely suggest the extra packs as well so you have a lot of variety.
Something I learned quickly about this game: you will dance, whether or not you intend to do so, whether you are sitting or standing, and regardless of whether youĆ¢ā¬ā¢re playing solo or in the presence of others. You – yes, you – will dance. Something else IĆ¢ā¬ā¢ve witnessed: everyone wants to tinker even if they donĆ¢ā¬ā¢t want to Ć¢ā¬ÅplayĆ¢ā¬Ā by rules. Kids as young as five play freestyle using colors, which brings in parents and grandparents who canĆ¢ā¬ā¢t help reaching in as well, and the group of teens, tweens, and millennials who hear songs they know being played in new arrangements actually look up from their cell phones (consider that a victory). This game can be a great thing to have around the house to pass time solo, serve as inspiration for music, or to keep people entertained at a party. It all depends on the mode you are in, which requires some explanation of the game mechanics. The base unit has five spaces where cards can be played, each with a low-energy near-field communication reader. Each slot has one or two colors associated with it using stickers and lights up on either side of the card play area. A button at the foot of the board syncs it with a phone or tablet and has other function during game mode. The head of the board has a notch to hold the phone or tablet youĆ¢ā¬ā¢re using for control and display. Each card wraps an enclosed microchip that matches musical tracks. The card features unique art, the artist and title of the music on the chip, and color-coded indicators of what t.
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my nephews and nieces to play together (they are 15-17).I have only seen them play it that night, but they seemed to enjoy it, and really were engaged for quite a length of time. They read the instructions themselves, tried to play one game, then they just played on their own terms. I gave them 4 extra packs of cards and it seems it was ca good gift. Good for kids and adults that like music and great to create their own music combinations. I had no problems with the cards, I know they have a chip embedded in them so they might not lay 100% flat. Everything worked and it was easy to use and play. If you can get this $35 or under it’s a great gift, but be aware it’s going to be harder to get cards, I believe they have stopped making them
I’m so disappointed that this game didn’t get as much publicity and attention as it should have. I feel like if it had been promoted better, they would release a lot more songs for the game. I only bought it based off of an article I read about it being an "under the radar" game worth checking out, and I’m quite glad that I did. I bought two of the 16-card expansion packs when I bought the game board, and I loved it so much that I went out and bought several more to expand my deck collection. I plan on getting all of the remaining expansions as well (except maybe for the $100/card PAX specialty promo cards! Yikes!)It IS a bit of an expensive investment unless you get it on sale, but it’s well worth the investment. While it is marketed as a "gaming system" I feel like that’s a bit confusing. It’s not a "gaming system" like the Xbox or Playstation is a gaming system, as you can’t play other games on it — but it also doesn’t require one of those systems to play it, like Rock Band or Guitar Hero does. It’s a self contained game with an electronic board, like Battleship or Operation, but I wouldn’t call either of those games "gaming systems" either. You do need a phone or tablet to play it (to show the game animations, play the music, keep score, etc.), but that can also be hooked up to external speakers by bluetooth or the devices headphone cable port. Having it LOUD is GREAT!The "versus" modes are good fun, and give the game som.
This is so much fun. I wish there were more cards available now, and I wish they could license more of the music I love. This concept and the way it works is so cool. Defintely have it connected to a good wifi/bluetooth audio set up. I loved Guitar Hero and Rockband, so to see the Harmonix team come up with such a great system and team up with Hasbro to make a card collecting music game but also DJ tool is just fantastic. The different sets of decks that are being released seem to have single songs split into the different tracks its sampling from, so while the drum track might be in one add on set, the vocals and harmony guitars might be in another set… I’m probably going to get every card they release… fml, but in a good way.
Every single game you play will be different and its truly a engaging experience to see what new beats can be put down on the fly. You can tell Harmonix put a great deal of work on this game and it definitely shows. If you are a fan of music based games in any fashion then this will be a game you can enjoy mixing solo or playing with friends!
Purchased this for my 7 year old’s birthday several months back and we still find it fun to play. My 10 year old also likes to play this with his sister. It requires you to download the app on your phone or tablet for the game options. I still don’t understand how the points are calculated, but it’s fun overall to create your own beats and songs.
