This game is absolutely perfect for kids (especially the hyper-active kind like mine). There are five different games that keep them from getting bored from one or the other. My only complaint is that it sometimes has trouble detecting the kids. It then scans them requiring them to stand still (an almost impossible task for a 3 year old) before allowing them to continue. This causes some frustration for them at times.Besides that, it is great.
My six year old loves this game! It took some getting used to, but he figured it out after a few minutes and can now move his character around fairly easily.I like how you cannot lose in this game, it will just take you a few seconds back from where you messed up, and let you start from there. It also let’s you take as long as you want to complete each mission, but if you do finish before a certain amount of time, it gives little "awards" and badges.I would definitely recommend this for all those little Pixar fans out there!
We gave this game to our 4 yr old about a week ago and he has been playing it non-stop. He’s able to navigate through the menus and the levels by himself, though the Kinect won’t recognize his voice. It’s a pretty active game as you have to actually run through almost every level. The idea behind the game is you are visiting a theme park with a different land for each of the movies (Incredibles, Ratatouille, Cars, Toy Story, and Up). Each land has 3 levels and the story between each level is only loosely tied together. Ratatouille, Toy Story, Up, and Incredibles are all very similar in mechanics and strategy. It’s disappointing the game has such poor recognition using the Kinect. I think the first Kinect games such as Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports do a better job with motion recognition. My kid doesn’t seem to mind, though, and navigates through the levels anyway. The Cars levels were very well done and driving using the Kinect is pretty easy.Oh, also the menu structure to start the game is irritating. It’s fun that the game uses the Kinect to scan you and create a character that looks kind of similar to your actual appearance, but it asks too many questions before letting you play the game. Each level is pretty short and we’ve pretty much unlocked everything on each level, which requires several playthroughs, though I don’t imagine my kid will get tired of the game quickly.
I was very dubious of the Xbox. Images of static pale looking kids pushing buttons no fresh air no exercise! These games changed my mind. Obviously running around outside playing is always better… But on rainy cabin fever days my boys can play these active games and work up a sweat jumping running and swimming( all in the family room!)So much fun. Two players side by side have to work cooperatively or one player alone. I very often end up joining in.
This was pretty popular with my kids for longer than some others, but ultimately it still ended up gathering dust when they got bored with it. And I probably paid too much just because of the Disney name associated with it. Even knowing that I wouldn’t pay more than twenty bucks if I were buying it again.
All the reviews about how great this game is are spot on — it is great fun. BUT virtually every game (except for the ones in the Cars section) requires jumping. Full, both-feet-WAY-off-the-floor jumping. For a variety of reasons, my knees can’t handle that. And unlike some other Kinect Games (like Kinect Adventures or Kinect Sports), you can’t get by with just stepping high or doing a sort of skip-jump or a low jump. And while the game will eventually allow you to ‘skip’ a challenge that is too difficult, it takes a while for the prompt to appear AND the prompt interrupts the gameplay of the other person playing. (It pauses both sides of the split screen, not just yours)So most of the time I end up watching my daughter instead of playing with her, which is a little disappointing. I had hoped this would be another game we could play together.
It’s been about two months since I bought it and I absolutely love it. After the first couple of sessions, my 6 year old daughter had mastered the controls and is able to jump from adventure to adventure without much input or direction from me. It’s the most intuitive Xbox game I have played. One of the subtle benefits is that the children are cued into the fact that each adventure is a fantasy; very helpful for adults who’re trying to separate out stories from reality. We play it together – it’s challenging enough to keep adults entertained; the other night, I had a 64 yo grand dad jump in (literally) and get into his first Xbox game ever. He was fascinated. It’s kept us active through the frozen days – and we’ve not come close to exhausting all the adventures. Probably only a fifth or less of the way in. (We’ve also been challenged enough to play an adventure over and over, and found twists each time.)Cannot wait to see what else these guys come out with.
My sons started this game when they were 3 and 5. My 3 year old just jumps around so sometimes it has a hard time reading him but my 5 year old is great at this game. We play together quite often. This game is great for kids and families. The only downside is that my son won all the levels/games fairly fast. I thought there would be more. But he was playing it every evening last winter. The game is still playable and we do play it often, just none of the challenges are new. Doesn’t bug us, there is plenty to choose from. This game is a lot of fun.
Great game! Super fun, and I love how it detects your clothes color to determine the colors your character would be wearing. Had no technical trouble with it, and feel super satisfied with this order! Could be hard when it comes to controlling your character when it comes to turning a certain direction or so, but that’s pretty much about it. I like how you can play up to four players, though you’re not accomplishing the levels together–you’re accomplishing the levels separately in 4 screens, if you know what I mean. What I don’t really like is once one player finishes the level, the level is automatically done, and the players who aren’t even near the end of the level won’t get the chance to finish it, if you know what I mean. However, it really adds on to the competitiveness to try to accomplish the level. Overall, I am super satisfied with this! Cool game!
My son loves this game. his favorite is definitely the Incredibles. I think adjusting the controls to match his size (4 years old, 40 inches tall) is a little annoying. I usually just skip making an avatar because you have to get your child lined up in a certain pose and they have to hold it long enough for the system to capture it. This can take about 30 seconds and my son isn’t good at holding a stretched out pose that long. I had to do this every time he wanted to play so I just started skipping it all together. He didn’t care as long as he got to play. I enjoy playing two person with him and working together on missions.
