Koudelka takes a new look on video games. It’s different than most you’ll find these days. It’s kinda like a mix of Resident Evil and your Final fantasy-like RPG.GOOD THINGS-It has turn-based battle screens, however, you can move your characters around the battle field, much like Final Fantasy Tactics. Only the rest is your usual RPG battle system. The level-up system is very cool. For each enemy you defeat, you get a certain amount of points, in which you can distrubute throughout your chatacters status. For example, if you recieve five points, you can choose to increase your strengh, dexterity, speed, etc. Also, you get a wide variety of sweet weapons and flashy spells. When I first bought Koudelka I was very surprised in the smooth graphics, quick load time, and high quality cinematics. The entire game has extremely good voice acting. Their speaking even moves correctly with their mouths. The general environment is very dark and gothic. Very nice.BAD THINGS-Koudelka didn’t really have many notable screw-ups to mention. Although not as violent or gory as Resident Evil, it still has its share of blood and thrills. The story line is huge(hence the four discs). It has a LOT of unexpected twists and turns. Not to mention, Koudelka herself looks pretty sexy through the whole game. All in all, Koudelka is a new, worht-the-money experience.
beautiful fun classic game. well worth getting.
Let’s just get straight to the heart of the matter with this game… Koudelka’s most common criticism was the speed of its turn based battle system. Admittedly, the battle system is unnecessarily slow. (However, that is buffered by a low encounter rate.) For those who have patience for the lethargy, they will be rewarded with one of the most unique JRPGs ever developed. Primarily Koudelka’s mature characters and plot are extremely unique and enjoyable (no we-can-save-the-world teenagers here). That is if you can deal with a heavy dose of the macabre. Koudelka’s plot contains subject matter that is entirely adult (suicide, murder, child abuse, child prostitution, for starters), and the gore factor can be high at times. These elements are made believable thanks to excellent voice acting and FMV that holds up well for its age. Further strengths are creative and diverse enemy variety, fantastic atmosphere, and a protagonist you will find endearing by the end. My only complaints are the brain dead simple puzzles and weak OST. This game’s composer is world renowned but he utterly dropped the ball with Koudelka’s quirky but ill-fitting soundtrack. Well if you are an open minded player with patience, give Koudelka a shot. It might not be a masterpiece, but it’s an innovative and completely unique experiment that I doubt we’ll ever see attempted again. Koudelka billed itself as a survival horror RPG, and it delivered exactly that.
I got this just because I”ve been a fan of the shadow hearts series for years, and that this is the prequel, it has very little to do with the series except haleys mother. It was fun to play and enjoyable for a ps1 game. It was diffrent than anything I ever played before, so it was a nice change.Other reviews sum it up better.
The classic creepy crawler that gets under your nerves.
I love the fact that this combines 2 of my favorite genres, rpg and survival horror. Overall I loved the survival horror part more cuz the battles are too slow abd sometimes the enemies attack over and over and over again and you just wait for your turn. Also, weapon breaking system doesn’t work cuz I’m supposed to use them for them to level up. Story was good, but hard to hear the characters many times. I’d give it a 7.9/10
Case, 4 discs, manual: all in excellent condition.
Great game. Scary atmosphere throughout the game. Fun to play. Great soundtrack and the cg scenes are good looking for its time when it came out.
Great game. Some reviews complain of the battle system-I personally love it.It’s like an entry-level Final Fantasy Tacticsbattle wise, but the game is like a beautiful, obscure survival horror. It really is a gorgeous game, i love the charactersand settings, and the story is good.Creepy environments, uniquepre-cursor to the (equally high-quality)Shadow Hearts series.
As an adult gamer I enjoyed this game – wasn’t the biggest challenge or best I’ve every played but it held my interest, graphics were good, storyline was interesting, locales and battle were good and the game had different endings depending on the final battle.Starts out with one character and you pick up the other two during game play. The battles were challenging without being to tough. Satisfying variety of weapons and spells – although the weapons do break after so many uses. You can also strengthen your magic with use.Recommended!
