This collection is COOL but SOOO INCOMPLETE!!!WE NEED: The Simpsons’s Arcade, Zombies ate my Neighbors, The Contra Series, Castelvania series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, Batman series, Rocketknight Adventures AND SOOO MUCH MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!COME ON KONANI!! BRING IT ON!!!!! JUST LIKE CAPCOM, TAITO, MIDWAY AND SEGA!!!Adios.
In order to use the joystick for scramble, press the analog button. The instruction booklet doesn’t mention this. I have to thank the kid at Gamestop. : )
If you never played these games in the arcade, you didn’t really live in the 80’s! ONLY down side is being forced back to the titles every time you want to select another game or toggle options.*EDIT*My apologies, I said there was no analogue control… Well, there is. Just press the handy button and it turns on. Who knew? Der…! It doesn’t say it’s forced feedback either! What, both of those things are printed on the case itself?!?LOOK OUT!!!*shuffle, shuffle, shuffle*
Remember when the arcade lights were turned off where only the games lit up the room? These were the games everybody slammed quarters or tokens in back then. To all you "so-called" video game experts, I’d like to see any of you get to even stage four or five of "Super Cobra" or "Scramble". Want simple but fun games? This is the one for you. It has all the hits, Gyruss(the actual real PCB Gyruss!)all the original PCB’s so you can really get into the games. Take your pick of any or all ten. You won’t be disappointed.
Love it
Growing up as a child of the 80’s I pretty much lived in the arcades. I will admit that I purchased this collection not based on the total content but a few key nostalgic games that I played repeatedly in my youth. Most of these games were not available anywhere else and were well worth the purchase. Here’s a description of everything Konami Arcade Classic’s has to offer;(Descriptions taken from Mobygames)DescriptionTen of Konami’s classic arcade games originally released from 1981-1985, make their Playstation debut in this compilation:Pooyan – As your fellow pigs lower and raise you in an elevator for the perfect shot, you must defend them against the wolves. Shoot their balloons with arrows or make a bunch of them lose their grip by hitting them with meat. Time too many shots poorly and the wolves will inch their way up the tree towards you and the other pigs. The higher they get, the higher of an area you’re restricted to for aiming.Circus Charlie – Six games of timing, reflex and patience in one, each more difficult than the last. Jump a lion through hoops and over flaming urns. Hurdle over monkeys on a tight rope. Bounce from trampoline to trampoline. Roll and leap from ball to ball. Avoid being knocked off your horse by jumping over or bouncing off of springboards. And at the most challenging level, fly from trapeze to trapeze.Shao-Lin’s Road – Leap from level to level, kicking henchmen and their tougher bosses. Collect powerups like the rotating energy ball and the.
Great games
Although this is not the best anthology of old video games that I have played,it’s still very good. With a name like “classics” though,I was expecting to actually remember more of these games. The only ones familiar to me were Gyruss(of course),Circus Charlie (vaugely remember that from an arcade in a movie theater),and Time Pilot(more about that later). Well,on the whole, the collection was packed together nicely and the menu selection was easy and quick to use.The intro movie was sweet and the graphics/colors were also nice. Now to review each of the games:Shao-Lin’s Road: Unlike the retrolio reviewer,I thought this game was really fun.A free for all beat-em up with random power ups popping up here and there(fried noodles for health!)While it can get chaotic at times, you have a shield or life meter if you will. It’s not like you get hit once and then you die;you can take three hits, and the fourth is fatal. There are diffrent looking enemies(bald monks, female dancers, street punks) and yes there are even bosses… sometimes two at a time!If you loved the Double Dragon games, odds are you’ll like this. This was one of the better games.Circus Charlie: I remember this one as a kid and I wanted to play it,but couldn’t get a quarter from the parents! This game is so original and yes, cute that you can’t help but like it.From tight rope walking to trampoline jumping, pony riding and fire hoop leaping this game is pretty tough. But it always makes you want to try again to complete all levels.Agai.
Konami has not made another collection quite like this one, and likely never will again. It includes Gyruss, Time Pilot, Pooyan, Shaolin’s Road, Circus Charlie, Scramble, Super Cobra, Road Fighter and Yie Ar Kung Fu.I have never seen such an eclectic yet superb collection since the Capcom Collections on Ps2/PsP. I remember paying $40ish for this collection and only playing Gyruss for the first 30 some-odd hours of ownership, forgetting there were other games on the disc! They’re not all mega-hits, but they’re all fun examples of 80’s arcade amusement.
