First off, let me apologize for the three preceding reviews, two of them are talking about the wrong product and one isn’t telling you anything that helps. The reviewers have no business posting.For those who are on the fence about whether or not they want to order this game or not, let me help a little. First off, I own the PS2 version of this game. Now, as we’ve seen so far, either the Gamecube release is exactly the same or improved over the PS2 version. With that in mind, either way this is a five-star game. The game that the misguided reviewers are discussing is Gauntlet Legends. Now, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy basically took Legends, doubled the number of boards and characters, and improved the graphics. There is no need to own Legends, I would just purchase this one, since everything that appears in Legends is encompassed within Dark Legacy.As far as gameplay goes, if you like hack’n’slash type games, where you can pick up items and build your character, then this is for you. One improvement in this game is that initially there are eight characters that fall under four classes (warrior, archer, wizard, and valkyrie). As you collect the bonus coins on the different levels, you can unlock a few more (four or five, don’t remember the exact number). Each class has a dominant trait (strength, armor, speed, and magic) and a special magical ability that grows more powerful at certain level-ups (wizards can use magic to change poison into food).IMPORTANT TIP IN THIS PARAGRAPH, PLEA.
Word of caution to those that are purchasing this game… as you get deeper into the levels, there is a problem in the coding that causes the game to randomly freeze up when you obtain a hint scroll. According to MidWay Tech Support, they are aware of the problem, but there is currently no fix in the works.The game itself is great fun and the lock up proves to be mildly annoying (you will need to restart the Gamecube and begin the level over.) I’m just surprised to find that MidWay is well aware of the problem and not working to fix it.Thought it would be helpful to know as you purchase this that it does have a small drawback.

This is the type of game I’ve been hoping for on the Gamecube. The graphics are sweet and the gameplay never-ending, fast and furious. My 9 year old son and me sit down and play together exploring worlds and fighting creatures for hours. A definite must for the Gamecube owner. Hours upon hours of gameplay in this game.
This game is a lot like the computer game released by BLizzard Entertainment, Diablo II(one of the best games ever along with Starcraft, Starcraft: Brood War, and Warcraft III Reign Of Chaos) and is a must have for anyone who enjoyed Diablo II. I feel that this game was well made and has very nice graphics and is enjoyable to play. Also when you lose you don’t get frustrated in this game, instead you want to try, again, and again till you get it! I highly recommend purchaseing this game it is a must have for a dedicated gamer.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE!! This game came just as advertised with the manual and everything! It works perfectly and has no scratches, and I am so excited to play this!! Brings back wonderful childhood memories, and now I’ve play with the hubby and step-son. So much fun! Thanks guys!
Excellent game
This Game is okay. U pick a char and u [destroy]…. There isn’t a huge story to this game but i’d still buy it. U pick a class of character. U [destroy] and gain levels. When u hit lvl 30 u get a familiar that flys over ur shoulder and shoots with you. each character has unique familairs. there are even secret characters you need to unlock. ratings:Graphics: 9/10 not a huge improvement from N64Gameplay:8/10 solo , 10/10 multi. its really much more fun with other people to play with.Sound: 8.5/10 the music can get annoying but its not too bad.Story: 9/10 fairly okay story and plot.Replay: 10/10 u beat it as 1 character then u can pick anotherclass and work that 1 up.Overall: 8.5/10. its okay but i’d still buy it. …
