It takes A LOT for me to actually take the time to review anything….and spending thousands of dollars every year of internet purchases…leaves me little time to review anything…BUT that being said, I have to let everyone know how this particular game has changed my life….You say “your life”….well yeah because after dealing with a life threatening illness….and gaining a lot of weight with the medications….I was actually too depressed to even get up….dealing with chemo and predinisone…not to mention fatigue…it left me with really little energy to get up at all….I spent a ton of money building my Wii dream gym…bought every fitness game…bought new workout clothes…you name it..I did it…Then when I finally decided it was time to get off my butt….out of all the games…I picked this one and it really MOTIVATED me so much!….The game is FUN and a lot of it too!….The music…the challenges….the whole entire atmosphere….First night I got up and stopped feeling sorry for my weigh gain….I walked over 2000 steps!….And the calorie burnup was great!…Can I make a wish?….That Walk Out 2 gets here soon!….You cannot go wrong with this game…and at the price is beyond right…I’m actually thinking about donating extra Walk Outs to anyone that needs that extra push in life…UPDATE….After having this game now for a couple of months…I have LOST 27 pounds…and am back to my normal weight of 115….I work out with this game and use weights and ha.
I now see why young folks get so addicted to their games. Although I’d never had any inclination to play video games when my children played (and still play), I think I’ve arrived and am having a ball while also getting in lots of steps on my pedometer. Getting in 10,000 steps a session is almost a given as I lose track of time in pursuit of “capsules.” I sometimes set a timer to exercise for 30 minutes only but have so much fun I can’t stop at 30. With my brain so engaged, the body just follows right along. I use the nunchuck and just put it in my pocket, being careful to position it so that it can more accurately “feel” my leg movements. I usually just walk back and forth in front of TV except when Will.i.am’s “Boom Boom Boom” comes on. Then I dance all over the room. Some of the songs I’ve “collected” I delete from playlist. My thanks to all the reviewers who posted instructions and websites. It took a few months for me to figure out how to walk and use the control at the same time – let alone have a clue what I was doing – but it has never been boring or frustrating because it also keeps score of my steps each session as well as my progress. My trainer dude encourages me and says various things like, “I didn’t think you’d show up again,” or “where have you been,” or “you’ve been coming here all week..” and lots of other appropriate comments on my progress. I look forward to each opportunity to Walk It Out, and that’s a first. My son gave me his Wii to stream my Netf.
This game is so much fun! It took a visit to the WIO website to figure it out but it has been well worth the money. I walk for 2 hours everyday now and hardly notice. In fact, I can hardly wait to get on it everyday, which is way weird for me, as I can hardly stand to be on a treadmill. This is wonderful!
Great game if you are needing a way to get a walking workout when the weather is lousy outside (and even when the weather is nice but want more of a workout than a leisurely walk). The more up beat songs on this will have you jogging in place and really get your heart pumping. Its also fun to explore the virtual island, and to spend your steps earned to help bring the island to life (clicking on places adds in cars, plants, buildings, bridges, etc). As you also walk, you will find more parts of songs that then get added to the collection. As you add more, you can then customize the songs that you want or don’t want during your walks (I’ve started getting rid of the slower songs as I find the pace on those much too slow for me). And for those curious, this does work fine on a Wii-U. I use the Wiimote and Nunchuck, but it also will work with the balance board and a Wii dance pad. For me, this is by far one of the best workout games.
I purchased this in 2010. Over the past 10 years I have used it more than any other workout device I’ve ever owned. It’s just walking in place to music but as you walk, you earn chips to erect buildings, buy cars, plant trees, etc. – sort of like if SIM City made you walk and sweat. I went through a few stretches where I didn’t play this for a year or two but I kept coming back to it as I aged and had to start eliminating some of my more strenuous exercising. I picked it back up about a half year ago and now spend about 45-60 minutes every morning on it; once you get going on this, you lose track of time. I can’t run any more and my orthoepedic doc doesn’t want me walking on a treadmill. But this doesn’t hurt my knees at all (I use a Wii board). Yes, after all these years I’m a bit tired of the songs (and that Missy Elliott one is just nasty – I’m not a prude but I can’t believe it’s on a family Wii game) but some of the tunes are catchy, even if this game is the only place where you’ll hear most of them. You can discard songs that have a BPM rate that’s too fast or too slow for you. It takes me about 25 days at very easy quarter steps to complete all three islands – that’s about 66 miles of walking for me. As geeky as it sounds, I even did up a Word doc log to track my progress. The only fault I have with it is when it says you’ve done 10,000 steps, it’s actually only about half of that on my Fitbit. But now that you know that, it’s not an issue, right? I know t.
If you are looking for a low impact walking exercise, this fits the bill. I got it yesterday and did it right away and again this morning. I was somewhat confused the first time but I got the hang of it this morning. I don’t understand why the publishers don’t put out better instructions. If they don’t want to incur the printing cost they could always point us to a web site. I got a good walk in and the time sped by.EDIT UPDATE: Konami has a full manual on their web site The game starts with creating a profile. Your character will look nothing like you. You pick male or female but they look pretty much the same. You can change hair color, skin color and clothing color. It asks your age, height and weight but it doesn’t change your avatar. No big deal. The program makes you confirm each entry several times which would be annoying except that you only have to create a profile once.I have tried all 3 methods of walking: Wii remote and nunchuk, Balance Board, DDR Mat. I like the mat the best even though they all worked. The remote and nunchuk seemed to occasionally miss my movement. The balance board is a hard surface and does not work with the whack-a-mole game (1 of 3 games). I started using a mat from the Wii Outdoor Challenge game which I liked because it had 2 rows where buttons were next to each other but I switched to a DDR mat when the Outdoor Challenge mat wouldn’t work with whack-a-mole. I walked on the top row of buttons. Here’s the premise of the game. You start b.
Yes, it’s dated but it’s still compelling enough to keep me on my exercise bike longer. I use the "slide the nunchuk down the side of your workout pants leg" method of registering steps and it’s fine for the bike, at least on the more lenient step setting. So far I’m listening to the music in the game, but I expect eventually I’ll turn the sound off and choose my own music. You can set the game so step precision doesn’t matter and just use it to incentivize you to pedal just a little longer to find that one more rainbow sphere…
I got this game today. So this is an early report.First of all, the game is a great idea, because it takes some of the “addictive” nature of some of the simulation games where you earn points to buy things and applies it to fitness. Just like in the past when I’d be playing Sims or SPORE and think “I’ll just play one more [level/day/bit]”, this game had me saying “ok, just 100 more steps and i can get that new route.” 10,500 steps later I was tired and had walked 2.8 miles. Not a bad addiction. It’s fun to see the different objects come to life and the night time for the game is different that the day time, with different objects to unlock (for instance you can unlock constellations at night). Also, the game requires more coordination than you think because if you see a bubble you really want to “hit” (by shooting it with the wii mote), you have to keep walking in time to the music beat, use the numchuck to swing the camera angle around, and then use the wii mote to accurately shoot what it is you were aiming at. I’m just glad no one was watching me.I used our Dance Dance Revolution pad and sometimes it was frustrating because even when i walked in time, it’s like the pad wasn’t responsive enough after a while. I solved this by switching my feet to different pairs of buttons when it didn’t seem responsive any more. It wasn’t bad changing my feet up a little anyway. The graphics are pretty cool, the map is a little difficult because it only shows you a tiny bit of the ov.
Trying to ensure that I give this game it’s justice in a review is going to be difficult but I’m going to try to do my best.Walk It Out may be one of the best fitness games available on the Wii. It’s enjoyable because it’s not over strenuous to the body and yet you get a good exercise. You can basically call it an Interactive Treadmill. In Walk It Out, you start off by creating a character to represent you on Rhythm Island (where the game takes place.) You can’t use your Mii, which is unfortunate, but not a deal breaker by any means. Then you go into the Tutorial of walking around a track while your personal coach teaches you about how to control and play the game.Game play involves walking in time with the rhythm of the music that is playing. (You can unlock more songs, change playlist, etc., but cannot use your own songs.) You can either use a Nunchuck, Balance Board, or Dance Dance Revolution pad. I used the Nunchuck and it worked just fine. You simply have to make sure you lift your legs and step down slightly hard like you are marching so that it picks up your movement. As you travel through Rhythm Island you will earn points for each step you take that is on time with the rhythm. You will use those points to purchase features on a rather empty island. Features like signs, trees, buildings, new path ways, songs, etc. This game is very visually appealing and it draws you in because you want to keep earning points to keep buying stuff so you can build up your island as muc.
I’ve had Walk It Out! for almost a month. I was hesitant before I got it, figuring that it might be a little juvenile for me, a 29 year old guy, but I needed (and wanted, finally!) to do something about my weigh problem. So I loaded the game and ran through the creation process. This game has got to be one of the best games Wii has got out there. For those of us that purchased a Wii in the first place to use the motion control but then found sitting on the sofa still made the game work, you really have to move to succeed at this game. The music is lively and can be tailored to anyone’s musical tastes (I prefer songs from 130 and up). There are some slower songs I still have on my playlist for a bit of a reprieve during playing.Walk It Out!’s replay value, to me, is fantastic. I fully intend to finish the island once and then start on it all over. With six gave-saving slots, there’s plenty of time to build it again. Now that I know where things are, I’ll be able to better plan my execution of island-building, but I expect it to still be fun.If you’re on the fence about purchasing this game, I recommend you take the plunge. For one thing, I know it got my butt off the couch and have a feeling it will do the same for you. Secondly, the more games bought, the more chance of there being a sequel. No matter how people create the island, those who really like the game can agree on one thing: we want a sequel!
